In my eyes as much as I like certain players we have, we will need to move on from them and it shouldnt be too difficult to do so. The first 6 games of the season have proven that the Cowboys dont need players like Gallup, Collins and Jarwin. One immediate move that should be made prior to Nov 2nd is the trading of Gallup to a contender in the AFC. There is no doubt a contender for playoffs like Vegas or Cincy or Baltimore or Indy would pony up picks for him. This would eliminate the need to even worry of signing him. A player like Wilson will then become a priority at a lower cost than Gallup would cost. Collins and Jarwin can be kept this season but cut or traded in off season. Resigning Schultz and continuing to develop a player like Steele should be a priority. Those 3 contracts alone will ease the pain.

I would consider Connor Williams. I personally believe we should be giving a player like McGovern a chance to start. I dont like what he provides he is a drive killer. Another would be someone like Anthony Brown and Jordan Lewis. Its not like they are valuable pieces to this defense. That is just over 11 million for the both of them. Your telling me players like Joseph and Wright cannot do the same as them? How about drafting some more corners. They can't be any worse than them. Maybe sign a cheap vet or 2 to help out Diggs and Joseph.

If they restructure contract of Prescott and Cooper to give them some more room, we should be perfectly fine. Without the restructure of these contracts you have already opened up 33 million approximately in cap space. Now we are not above the cap we are 18 million beneath it. Now you go out an resign your own in Gregory, LVE and Wilson.

I stop worrying about cap issues years ago. Things will work themselves out. At this point, they should be very well versed in managing the cap.
Exactly we hear this crap every year. A few moves and the cowboys are in good shape. Not like it matters tho we won’t sign any big names lol. But we do need to keep Gregory and Schultz

The only thing I don't get is we have the 2nd youngest team in the NFL. You would think a team with so many cheap rookie contracts would be in great shape on the cap.

Take a look at how many of our contracts are at or near top of the league for your answer.

Our quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and defensive end are among the highest paid league wide.

As well as three of our five offensive linemen.

But then we sign Gregory and Schultz, and at least one of the safeties, can it fit?

Makes us dangerously low on TE depth, and same on CB if the new young guys don't work out. It stinks that with all those draft picks spent on defensive back a few years back, we couldn't find at least one keeper.

One of the mega-contracts has to go, and yes, Tank looks most vulnerable. Coop next if CeeDee keeps playing like this. No good answers, we'll be thin on depth in a few positions. We need another draft next year like this year's draft.

I think they can manage to keep one of Gregory or Schultz. Not both.

Cooper goes no where!! . But this crap about us not able to have money is hilarious. Lawrence June 1st cut saves us 19 million, Dak restructuring saves us like 15 million. . Brown, Jarwin saves us a decent chunk also, and all the money could gain by restructuring Cooper and Martin

Not half as “hilarious “ as the ‘just restructure everybody’ nonsense. This stuff is comedy gold. Keep it coming.

:lmao:

The cowboys will be alright. Yes they won’t be able to resign everyone. But they can resign the key guys if they choose to do so.

There will be flexibility if the cowboys choose to use it.

a lot of contracts they can either shed outright or restructure.

they won’t be able to just go out and sign whoever they want. But keep the guys they want to keep? Yes they’ll be able to do that.

I can’t wait to read all of the fan denials saying it’s not an issue.
because its not an issue.....would I want 50M cap space? yes....but these things are kind of tricky depending on the team, who is signed, who isn't signed, etc....for the cowboys, all the major players are signed except a couple....so yes, you have to dig in to understand. for us, it will be about opening up around 25-30M to sign a few key players like Schultz and Gregory.

I would like to sign Connor Williams, but I think he's a goner with McGovern's play. We already need some more depth on the interior offensive line next year! Man, I hate the salary cap. We're going to go from a team loaded with depth to no depth next year.

Both Prescott and Cooper have base salaries of $20M which could easily be restructured as bonus money. That can free up around $38M. Throw in Martin and Smith for restructures and the Cowboys have enough to sign Williams, Gallup, Gregory, Schultz, and Wilson if they like.

Could trade Lawrence and Collins freeing up even more.

i agree but this isn't different then most years

NFL SEASONS are one -offs for most teams.

enjoy this one because its not truly building anything bigger for 2022..it is what it is a great start to 2021 and hope it ends far into the playoffs..

2022 we could be the chiefs, browns, Seahawks. 49ers, or steelers teams with playoff aspirations having a rough start to 21..most likely all the fan base are in shock right now as we could be in 22.

nothings guaranteed for next season let alone next week.

On the opposite spectrum, look how in one season the Bengals and Chargers improved so much in one season, i mean next season a few NFC teams can step up and be a new threat..

I remember the talk last year how New Orleans was 1 Billion dollars over the cap. So much so that they didn’t have enough space to sign draft picks. Half the team was going to be cut. Well they did ok. I’m not worried.

well, obviously this is click bait for cowboys fans...but

there are quite a few candidates for their contract to get redone to open up cap space.

there are few players that probably won't be here in 2022,
  • DLaw (post june 1 releasing him would open 19M in cap space)
  • Jarwin (post june 1 opens up around 5M)
  • Anthony Brown (post june 1 opens up another 5M)
  • Jourdan Lewis (could save around 3M)
so that's about 25-30M on 4 players alone.

then restructuring a few can open up quite a bit of cap space, like Dak, Cooper, Smith, Zeke, Zak, Collins.
Plus the cap maybe much higher than 208M, getting back to normal and some new TV contract deal that will add to NFL dollars.

I think we are fine.

I dont want to say we are going to be fine, as we are going to loose alot of talent. but Floor for cap is 210 next year and only going to move up. Now restructuring Dak Im ok with that. Collins NO (To many Bone headed mistakes), Zeke NO (Will wear down eventually he's on a 2 year deal to me), Cooper NO (same as Zeke, CD is coming up and will over take him in a few years) and double heck NO on Smith (we need to draft replacement)

DLAW - Yes Cut we are doing well with out him. Would we be better probably but he's injured every year and costing too much money
Jarwin - Yes Cut we need that money to sign Schultz if we can afford him, thats a big if he's a Stanford guy so hes going to want to maximize his worth while he can.
Brown - Yes Cut he's had a good year but we have younger guys that might fill in at the same role.
Lewis - Same as brown.

You can only designate one player as a post June 1st cut.

meh- much ado about nothing imo. J-Lew, Anthony Brown, and Connor Williams can be gonners. Restructure a few others and sign RG94 to a big, (Hopefully) team friendly deal, and we'll be fine. I'm not stressin'.

Exactly my take. It's too fluid for most if us too keep up with. We will make moves and be just fine.

well, I wouldn't normally mind, but I think we have a 2-3 year window to make a run before having to do a mini rebuild (ala KC perhaps). so restructuring while looking for replacements....it also depends on draft and what you find in draft. Yes, time to look for Smith replacement... but what if one isn't there and usually good ones go up high in the draft....so is it Steele? ok, lets say its steele, but then what to do about Collins. you can't lose both tackles and replace them in the same off season and make a run. and if we don't restructure, then it will be hard to sign Gregory and Schultz. so are we willing to lose them?

my point was next 2 or 3 years is all eggs in the basket....make a run....best chance. its not about being a playoff team. its about making a run at the superbowl. and then go into a rebuild mode.

I been saying this for years.
Look at how the WFT for YEARS, and the Eagles have the last few years. The Saints were something like $70 million over going into this season.
But yet here we are, all are under the cap somehow.
