Why Hasn't Dalton Shultz Signed A Long Term Contract Yet

He's given a one year audition at a premium salary to prove last year wasn't a fluke. We have the cap space to make him earn it. So, what's the rush? Stephen isn't going out and signing any big names that would require us to create more cap space.

The opportunity for signing Schultz for Jarwin Money has vanished.

So we're just kicking the can down the road another year at the premium cost of 11 million.

As long as that premium doesn't hamper our ability to sign a mediocre #2 te I'm good with it.

But if we do stick with this traditional dominant 12 personnell Scheme w intentions of using McKeon or Sprinkle I'm all out

I'd rather have 2 mediocre tes versus 1 and a scrub any day of the week.

Who leads the NFL in tight end receptions?

Mark Andrews had the most yards on receptions by a tight end in 2021, with 1,361 yards.

George Kittle 2021 910
Dallas Goedert 2021 830
Dalton Schultz 2021 808
Rob Gronkowski 2021 802
Guess who was number 4 last season?
I hear ya loud and clear and am not denying those black and white stats.

But like I stated earlier the judge for an NFL receiver has just as much to do with the amount of coverage he's drawing from the defense as it does receptions and stats. .

If Andrews, Kittle, Kelce, and Gronk we're just drawing containment/blanket Coverages like Schultz instead of the man to man and double teams their getting no telling how many record setting receptions, yards, and tds they would have amassed.

Your comparing elite focal point players to take what the defense gives ya type of players w a little focal point of stopping

You got 2-3 defenders trying to stop them and our guy isnt even drawing man coverage half of the time. Because the defense is fearing the run

The stats can be a little deceiving.

Also keep in mind that most of other guys are averaging 3 yards more per catch even though they are drawing Wayyyyy more defenders.

If Schultz was drawing man to man and double coverage he'd have like 15 receptions for 90 yards all season. Lol. That's the difference

We finally had a dual threat Passing/Blocking te core to run the 12 personnell in 10 years. Lol

Jarwin was drawing just as much or more coverage as Schultz was as a receiver.

And at times he was blocking more and better also

When he went down that dual te passing dynamic changed and our run game fell off of a cliff.

Having a 1 million dollar one dimensional blocking dollar store te out there instead of that dual receiving threat changed the whole defensive strategy.

The threat of 2 receiving te threats in the 12 personnell vs 1 changes everything.

It has nothing to do w Jarwins 11 catches and 2 td stats. It had to do with coverage he was drawing away from everyone else. IT ADDS AN ELEMENT OF SURPRISE

Those 1 million dollar store #2 tes didn't scare or SURPRISE anybody lmao

Too bad #82 always played w a scrub lmao

Ya put a trash #2 te out on the field that is just a blocker and the defense is gonna move all of the coverage to the other skilled players. Facts

Not having that 2nd passing threat to both tes dynamic is gonna weaken our passing attack on 1st and 2nd down

If we don't have that dynamic it makes no sense to run all of that 12 personell.

That's been my beef for 8+ years.

We did that when #82 was in his prime for years, had steaks at oline, RB, wrs, and a good QB and defenses and couldn't overcome that designated blocking #2 te scheme.

We've never won jack squat with that and never will lol.

Let's start making some threads about replacing Jarwin and making our te core great. Last year we had a decent te core for the first time in 10 years

Ya ain't gonna do it betting on longshots. Just grab a couple of mediocre fa tes for 3-5 million and leave them undrafted tes alone

I can't believe we didn't grab Jelani Woods in the Second Round.

We'll pick up some undrafted loser that won't play for 2 years.

Wait, don't you continually argue he has no ability to run after the catch … lol

And no he didn't have 5 TD's on 3 yard screens. That's an idiotic claim. Hell, 2 of them couldn't be because the TD was less than 3 yards.

By the way, are you under the impression other TE's don't get credit for TD's they get where they have yards after the catch?
I told ya the eagles would draft a lb to replace A Singleton. Singleton couldn't cover old man Witten. I hate Philly.

They wound up drafting Nakobe Dean.

Dean vs Schultz' (the eagle killer)

Heeeees Bumming

I hope I'm wrong but I'm pretty good at at future forcasting. Js

We've gotten through 3 rounds and the 2 highest rated te prospects are gone

We all knew these 2 guys would be gone before we picked in the 3rd round.

What's the odds now of drafting a day 1 starting #2 te to replace Jarwin???

We better get on the phone on Monday trying to get a fa

Schultz is much better than those 2.

There's no way he's playing this year under the franchise tag 10.9 million.. He isn't worth it.

At this point I'd agree he's not worth 10.9 million.

But he only had 19 passes thrown his way his first two years. From 2020 to 2021 he went from 63 to 78 catches, 9.8 to 10.4 ypc and from 4 to 8 tds (which was only 1 less than both Travis Kelce and Mark Andrews).

He had more catches, more tds and a better ypc than Zach Ertz, who makes $10.5 million a year.

It's not at all unreasonable to think he could improve this year, you can't stay stuck in time and ignore the future. What if he improves greatly, and ends up with, say, 100 catches, 12 tds and a 15.0 ypc? (Just for discussion purposes, not predicting those numbers). At that rate he'd darn well would be worth $10.9 mil. and we'd be more than glad to have him...

Schultz is much better than those 2.

Im not sure whether Jake Ferguson can come in and adjust right away and be a first day starter at the #2 te but I like his deep ball, red zone and 50/50 ball skillsets way better than Schultz coming out of college.

Those skillsets don't always translate at the NFL Level but everything I see on film looks better that Check'downski, McKeon, and Sprinkle.

He's not gonna do that catching 3 yard screen passes w racs. Lol

Hes prolly gonna draw more man to man coverage this year.

He may be a 5-6 TD a year player this year.

Keep in mind he went into the 17th game against the rest your starters eagles w 6 tds.

He only scored against Philly 4tds, Wft 1 TD, Giants 1 TD and Carolina 1 TD, and the Raiders 1 TD.

His ceiling is more likely to dropoff since the eagles got rid of singleton and picked up Dean.

Plus we'll prolly have McKeon as a designated blocker playing opposite for awhile.

I think he'll do fine. But I don't see a top 10 te there. Maybe top 12-15.

My guess is he'll be playing for 6-7 million in 2023

The upside is we may have #2 te in ferguson to play for Jarwin at some point this year. I'm not getting my hopes up.

But maybe we won't have to watch a bunch of sloppy #2 te ball like we did for 1/2 a season last year. Ha ha ha

We couldn't even run the ball w those other #2 tes .

We shall see how he does this year, barring of course Dak going down and his catching passes from Cooper Rush, that he's not played with much, or getting hurt. Anything can happen.

However, even if he doesn't get better, 6-7 million? This isn't 2010, last year there were 10 tight ends who made at least $8 million. I'd love to have Schultz at $7 mil but he'll get offers for more than that even at his present skill level, imo.

You may be right, but again, we'll see...

QUIT making stuff up. Ferguson is not a deep baller. I know, I know, you have this strange unreasonable hate for Schultz, I accept that, but Fergy is a carbon copy of Schultz, except he appears to be a much better blocker, which takes care of Schultz present weakness.

I don't hate Schultz. I'm glad we have him. I just think he's a better 1st and 2nd down te. He doesn't have much deep ball or red zone skillsets or big play capabilities

I'm not claiming Ferguson is gonna be a deep baller. I just think he has better deep ball and red zone skillsets than Schultz. He came down w some 50/50 balls that alot of tes don't usually make.

Schultz is a good possession receiving te. He just needs to get better against man to man

He'll prolly make a better duo with another te in the 12 personnel than being that guy in the 11 personnel.

As a te core we need 2 receiving tes. Just like at RB. We need 2 rbs who can run

At least we drafted a Te for the first time since 2018 when we picked up Schultz.

A 4th round talent is way better than some undrafted LONGSHOT. LMAO.

Youre not gonna find a gronk Hernandez in the undrafted ranks. Or the home Depot parking lot championship lol

The way we use tes we should be using higher draft capitol or fa

We're not gonna win w 1 avg te and a scrub using the 12 personell

We had prime years w #82 and a scrub #2 te and still couldn't beat anybody.

That like having a sucky safety

Ya gotta get the best guys and quit assuming we can win with guys like McKeon and Sprinkle ha ha ha

When tes are available for 3-5 million who can help your team now and you're doing nothing it's a FO problem.

Somebody better be on the phone on Monday getting a veteran TE who can catch or were not gonna be that good if Ferguson isn't ready.

Schultz isn't gonna remain the same much less elevate w a designated blocking #2 te this year

I have been right for 8+ years. Btw. It's a scheme flaw not a talent problem.

What te in the League wasn't better that McKeon or Sprinkle last year ksk?

What olineman on this team isn't a better te then McKeon or Sprinkle?

Are ya only concerned about the Starting #1 and not Concerned about the Starting #2 te???

Don't ya find it interesting that our run game fell off of a cliff after Jarwin got hurt mid season???
