1) We’ve been talking about being “out-physical” for some time, and from various DC’s …
The low regard for a quality 1 tech. while it does take more than one player to make a very good run defense – we’ve never had a 1 tech that was effective and top notch enuff to where a great 1 tech is a great start to build upon finally having a formidable run defense, but its' also about the other DL, ..the LBs ....the scheme and philosophy.
Take a look at all of the revolving door that has come and gone at 1 tech, Terrell McClain, Antwan Woods, Nick Hayden, Carlos Watkins ... None of those are difference makers,.. no Snack Harrison, ..we've never tried to upgrade that position that extent. Just JAGs
2) Ditto with safeties, ..just as low regards for a quality 1 tech, same always revolving door at safeties. Always a Money Ball Approach.
Hopes Malik Hooker works out, but someone with his injury history and durability trend ?
Otherwise here comes the Damontae Kazee Xavier Woods, Jeff Heath, JJ Wilcox, Gerald Sensabaugh, etc, etc.
- yes, the RDE will have to be established, we're still awaiting for a difference making 3 tech,.. aside from Micah, what else do we have at off LB ?
- Leighton Vander Esch ? A decent player with great size but questionable so-so instincts ? We have to greatly upgrade here as well.
Losing out on a Bobby Wagner was another Stephen Jones loss, imo.
- Diggs has to stay consistent with not giving up as many big plays despite the INTs
- There has to be a better option than Anthony Brown whose maxed out
- Dlaw cannot keep having injury issues and 4 sacks a season
- i can get the Hybrid scheme, but it also got rolled over vs run in games like Denver, Pats and Niners
