Does Aikman win a SB with any team from Parcells forward?

Passing to get an early lead in some games isnt passing to open up the run. Thats just surprising them with what they dont expect.

The Cowboys were a run first team and everyone knew it. What they had was a good OC that understood the importance of getting a lead for that particular team.

IF the Cowboys got down big they had trouble coming back. Case and point, the passing game just couldnt dominate when they needed to often enough.

Aikman thrived on play action passes and 3rd and a 3rd and short passing attack.

He averaged like 220 yards and a little more than 1 TD per game typically.

It doesn't matter how many yards. What matters is their scheme and how their playcalling played off each other. You can't conclude anything about game plans by looking at stat sheets.

Also, hearing you say he thrived on 3rd and short passes after recently watching the 92 playoffs makes me chuckle. Wasn't a whole lot of those in those games.

Edit: lol... I responded to the wrong post. But the arguments still hold.

You're taking the story from Super Bowl 28 and extrapolating out to be representative of their entire modus operandi. Like I said, rewatch those old games. 1992 is a fun season if you have the time. I know going into the NFC Championship that year they explicitly stated they were, "going to pass to set up the run." Check the beginning of the second half. At 1:44:58 of that video Summerall mentions both teams coming in with that philosophy and Madden says, "especially the Cowboys." But that philosophy was remarked upon multiple times throughout the season, too (like I said, I've had the time recently).

"So much credit to Aikman," is what? His deserved credit? You realize he threw 10 TDs and no picks in 3 playoff games in 1992? They struggled quite a bit to run early in those games. You seem to have a rosy opinion of the o-line. Not saying they weren't great but it's not like Troy was never sacked or hit as he threw (especially since he threw a lot from under center).

I know it was said on something I watched recently (maybe his top 100 vid?) that he has the highest playoff completion % of any QB, including Brady. Just because he didn't put up gawdy numbers doesn't diminish him or his contribution to one of the greatest teams in NFL history.

Like I said, coming out passing early in a few games doesnt make them a pass first team. They were a running football team. Emmitt was the heart and soul.

That Oline was one of the best to ever play.

Love Aikman, but he was overrated.

Aikman didnt put up gaudy numbers because he didnt have to. He drove the bus as good as anyone has ever done it.

But lets not put him in with the best and most talented QB's of all time. He wasnt that good.

Yep, sometimes they would pass.

Because everyone knew they were going to pound you with Smith so they would stack the box. They were a ground and pound football team designed around running the ball with Emmitt.

Aikman did a great job taking advantage in play action. However when they got behind big in games he struggled to be the featured element of the offense.

They were a balanced football team. There's a reason Emmitt was the first back to lead the league in rushing and win the Super Bowl, and it's not because he was carrying Troy. Troy did more than drive the bus.

As I said, it was more than, "a few games." That article even pointed out they passed most of the time on early downs and used the draw off those passes.

Yes. He wins at least 1. I think the 2007 team would have been that SB win.

They didn't play spread like the guys nowadays. Most teams that got down big back then had difficulty coming back simply because the rules were different. Defenders got away with a lot more than they do now.

Yes, "everyone knew," they would run the ball. But you're acting like Aikman was Trent Dilfer. You don't play the way he did in the playoffs (when Emmitt is getting stuffed early in the games) if you're a bus driver.

They definitely were a balanced team, but the passing game was the weakness. Emmitt and the run game was what everyone prepared for and tried to stop. OF course they would come out at times and try to pass early and get a lead. Common sense. I wish Moore would do that a lot more than he does instead of trying to establish the run with the plodding Zeke.

Cowboys with a lead could play their game. Ground and pound. Aikman and the passing game struggled with big comebacks. But their pass catchers weren't a lot of big play guys. Novacek, Irvin, these were possession guys.

Nope, never said anything about Aikman being trent dilfer. Those are your words.

Aikmans job was pretty much to drive the bus. Again, that doesnt mean at times he didnt make it happen or have great games.

If you think Im calling Aikman Dilfer, lets just move on. This is a dumb conversation anyway.

So you've come around to my side yet still want to call the passing game the, "weakness." That, "weakness," included 2 HoFers, Jay Novacek, Moose, and others who played their best ball with Aikman throwing it to them.

But again, go watch the games. You'll see how the running game was set up by the pass, especially those draws.

When I hear, "bus driver," I think Trent Dilfer. Who do you think of?

As regards the idiocy of the conversation, it's your thread buddy. I was just trying to dispel a myth.

LOL.........if after 8 posts you think Im agreeing with you, again lets move on.

I think this has to be the dumbest argument I have bothered to have. The 90's Cowboys were a run dominant football team.

Troy Aikman is what I think of.

Trent Dilfer was one of the worst QB's to ever win a SB.

Problem is you think calling someone a bus driver is some horrible insult. Its was his role on that team. Its what he did.

He's not going to bother watching those games, it would ruin his agenda. He's trying to throw shade at a hall of fame QB with the intent of somehow propping up the weak sauce QB Dallas has now.

Its my thread, but Im not the joker that keeps trying to say that the Cowboys of the 90's were a pass first offensive football team. LOL

Go talk to someone else about it buddy. If you can find anyone.

You acknowledged they would pass to get a lead, which is what I said. You're the one who took issue with it just so you could acknowledge it after getting evidence presented to support what I said. I can see why you're wanting to run away.

I think this has to be the dumbest argument I have bothered to have. The 90's Cowboys were a run dominant football team.

I agree, you're not that bright, hence you don't understand what, "pass to set up the run," means because you keep bringing up numbers and saying they ran a lot.

They weren't pass first, they were the kind of balanced offense we all wish for now. The problem is that it takes a top notch run game, a top notch QB, and an iron wall o'line. The team now has none of that. The o'line is the best of the three, though.

How does a bad QB win a Super Bowl? By driving the bus. Not taking risks and not making mistakes. If you think Troy didn't take risks, then again, go watch some old games. You seem to have forgotten.

Roy is the Duke of the bad take mafia around here. He's not the worst and on occasion he can be coherent, but he's prone to grasping a narrative and squeezing it like Lenny with a puppy.

Not I get it. Your simply not bright enough to understand the difference between being a run first football team and once in a while coming out passing the ball to try and get a lead.

But I'll make sure I go "watch the games". :lmao2::lmao2:

I said they passed to set up the run. I gave you an article from 1994 making the exact case. I even gave you a video where Madden and Summeral make the same point. You're scrambling and trying to redirect, as usual.
