I do feel Jerry's reputation does cause coaches to avoid Dallas.

Think about it. If you are a HC, you need the FO to support your and know when to butt out. As Parcells once said, the coaches would like to buy the groceries as they know what players bests fit their vision for the team. If you see what Jerry does and the way the good quality coaches get sniped in the media while the young apprentices get rushed through and held on for a decade, then why would you coach here when you can coach in a place where you essentially can buy the groceries and/or have a lot of say on the team? That's why someone like Belichick probably will not coach here.

I get what you're saying, but Jimmy came here without ever coaching in the NFL. McCarthy has been a coach in the NFL for a long time now, and has won a Super Bowl. So, his timeline should be shorter than Jimmy's in regards to getting us to the Super Bowl. My patience is running thin. :D

not taking anything away from Jimmy, but if only Mike had a Herschel Walker trade to set himself up with a half dozen or more marquee players.

Mikes gonna have to make it work with Dakota instead of Troy, CeeDee instead of Irving and Zeke instead of Emmitt………..and lesser defensive and offensive lines. best of luck.

Though, Micah Parsons is a top pass rusher. That helps.

If Mike continues to make game management errors, he deserves to be fired regardless of other aspects of his coaching. The HC has to be the one person who is on top of what is going on during the game. He has not been good in that regard.

I liked the hiring and still do.

I think the way he kept the team together the first year, with the evil word we shouldn't say, all the injuries, including starting quarterback was impressive. I think it was even more impressive than last years 12-5 record.

Players seem to like and respond to him. I wouldn't call him soft, the last 2 off seasons he's been fined for being too rough.

He has a couple warts, but most coaches do. Obviously I do not know him as a person, but from what I've seen, he seems like a good guy. The kind who would make a great next door neighbor to drink beer with. I hope he's here when we finally win the big game.

I know there's a hunger for an improvement in a lot of areas on this team, including with the coaches. However, let's be realistic here. We have Jerry for an owner, and we had Jason Garrett in some coaching capacity for 10+ years. I think Mike deserves at least another year or two of patience from us. Now, I know some of you think I have sausage rolls for brains, but here are some big reasons to be patient with Mike.

  1. Jimmy went 1-15 in his first year and 6-10 in his second year. It can take time for a coach to implement his style and mark into the team.
  2. Mike is having to implement his mentality into a team that had Jason Garrett as HC for approximately 9 years. So, it naturally will take longer for him to implement his mentality into the team. I think we can see that starting to develop, as I shall point out in the next point.
  3. Look at some of the games we won last year. Specifically, let's look at the Chargers game, the Patriots game, the Vikings game (in particular), the Saints game, and the first of two Washington games. In the Chargers game, we were playing a flashy young QB in Justin Herbert on the road in SoFi Stadium. I daresay that it'd have been a loss with Garrett, especially with the WRs the Chargers have. Yet, under Mike and Quinn, we won. The Patriots game would probably have likely been a humiliating loss. Let's face it, we hadn't beaten a Belichick coached team before that when he's the HC, and Garrett was never a match for Belichick. Then there's the Vikings game. Now, this was one that'd have the classic earmarks of a Garrett classic. Starting QB out, completely dismantled team, completely blown out to look like we have wet spaghetti for a team, and Jerry passes it off for missing the QB and extends Garrett for another year. Yet, we won that game with Cooper Rush. Then there's the Saints game. That was more Quinn as Mike was out, but Mike's mentality probably helped, and we won that game which, under Garrett, that'd be a loss. Finally, the first Washington game. We started collapsing towards the end. With Garrett, collapses always meant a loss. We won this time though. Let's assume we lose 4 of those. We'd have been 8-9 (likely a Garrett record). The Eagles, assuming their record held even, would've been the division champs at 9-8. We'd have been out of the playoffs entirely.
  4. We have Jerry Jones for an owner. Between him and how impatient as fans can be, there's a limit to how good of a coach we can get. Do you think Belichick is chomping at the bit to coach here? Nope. So, Mike is actually a very good coach for the owner we have.
I know the season didn't end how we wanted, but it was a great season. Mike's not perfect, and no coach is. However, as far as I'm concerned, I think Mike is doing a solid job. I like what I see in TC in terms of intensity. I think gone are the days of Camp Cupcake. The physicality seems much more intense. We got an OTA practice taken away both last year and this year because we were slightly overly physical (which is ridiculous, but ok). This team looks much more aggressive now. I think, if we are patient with Mike, this can be a very good team, and I like how he's developing this team. I wish Jerry would take a chance with a trade or a FA signings with player that can start and perform highly. I think that, like the Haley deal, might be all we need to go from playoff bound to contender. He'd pull out moves to save Garrett's job, why won't he take a chance or two to help Mike take this team to the mountain?

Jimmy went through a total rebuild including having to draft a QB. The pieces were in place for McCarthy when he arrived.

True, however, Mike did have to change a decade long culture of Jason Garrett. That's no easy feat.

Exactly, and it's good to see that Camp Cupcake is gone. The players do seen to respond well to him, and I think the Jason Garrett days are being cleaned nicely. Hopefully, Jerry will stop ramming coaches through like he did Jason Garrett.

The culture still hasn’t changed and probably won’t with the Joneses in charge.

I agreed that the Jones culture is here still, and I probably won't see a SB as a Cowboys fan, but, Jason Garrett has a culture of his own that was prevalent. Namely, poor 2nd round choices, bend but don't break defence, and apparently soft camps compared to Mike. Our 2nd round choices are much better now with Mike. Our defence is much more aggressive. Also, the practices seem to be more physical. Therefore, I think that sort of culture can help. Will it change Jerry? No, and not even Belichick can change that for Jerry. At some point, Jerry needs to realise that he needs to let the coaches buy the groceries. If Mike wants a player, then bring that player in (Von Miller).

I can't even compare Johnson and McCarthy.

One was brought here to rebuild the worst team in the league, the other was handed a playoff type roster and was supposed to get it over the hump, and presumably capable due to having won a SB beforehand.

I think it's sad for Mike McCarthy and any other head coach, that he's becoming a fall guy for the failings of our FO. He can only do what a highly limited Cowboys' front office is willing and able to provide. Therein lies an inescapable problem that no HC can rectify, whether it's MM or anyone else. Let's just appreciate what we have, instead of what we don't have. This organization is built upon a weak foundation. Here lies the problem. Jimmy Johnson found out the hard way and got out while he could. I bet he'd agree with what I've said, here. Maybe you should, too. It's not perfect -- it's, simply, what we have!

Patience is a good thing but that is not why Booger said he was hiring an experienced NFL HC.

McC is expected to get them there faster because of his experience level and you can bet the projected time to get there was discussed heavily in that 12 hour interview.

In order for patience to prevail, progress must be made and I cannot say that happened with the most penalized team only able to beat up the weaker teams.

Is patience required when the HC volunteers he had nothing to do with the OC, game plan or calling in the only playoff game? That, was the dumbest thing I've heard in a post game pc from a losing HC.
