The instant replay guy? They ran up to the line with lightening up their rear end. I mean, I guess he may have seen a replay but we sure didn't. By that time, they were already committed to running a play.
So you thought it wasn't a first when you saw it? Whoever is in the booth can see what we are seeing. Every fan I've seen knew it needed to be challenged as soon as the chick pulled it back.

I thought it might have been a first when I saw the play, I IMMEDIATELY posted for them to wait for the replay as they lined up to hurry next the play.

But you don't challenge generally off the live play. You wait for the replay and decide from there. MM did not wait for the replay. Gave the guy no time to look at the replay by the time they were at the line. That was the issue.

It was too fast to evaluate, either way on your own 35 is not a place to go for it with our defense.

Challenge it and punt it if you lose

This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to fire the guy. He needs to at the very least get a new instant replay guy in the booth to tell him when to challenge. The current person is an idiot.
:hammer:....that was the turning point of the game.

The problem is giving both sides only two challenges. The guys in New York who are supposed to review plays to get them right should review spotting the ball too. It should not be about coaches making the right decisions when to challenge or using up their only 2 challenges, it should be about getting the calls right. If the NFL is worried about the length of games then they should show it be reducing the number and length of commercial breaks.

You want them to review the spot on every play? Every potential first down? Every potential controversial play? They ain't reducing the commercials that pay the bills.

Then punt the damn ball.

Geezus...this was such a braindead sequence and it drives me nuts. Under no circumstances should we be rushing to the line on 4th down at our OWN 34... Let alone how the game was going and being on the road. Just a TOTAL joke.

If i was playing my 11-year-old son in Madden, this is the kind of call i would expect. Not from a super bowl winning coach.

And IF you are going to do this idiocy....qb sneak it.

We literally handed them the game with this.
It was layer upon layer upon layer of tactical blunders like you said. We went from a first down to giving them the ball. Went from sustaining a desperately needed possession to amplifying their momentum by handing them scoring position.

That early in the game he should've called a time out to pull his head out.

It was silly not to challenge it, but probably figured getting a foot shouldn't be that hard so let's get up to the line quickly and run something. We also don't know what McCarthy was told by the upstairs coaches.

The only thing worse than that sequence was the play that got called. I rather them try a qb sneak or run and have gotten stuffed.

So, last week McCarthy was to be carried off the field in victory, his name to be forever forged among the greats. This week, after one missed opportunity in the 2nd Q, he should be fired. Got it.

What pissed me off more was, not only he didn't challenge it, but had the offense run a quick pass play on 4th and inches. At the minimum, just line up and try to draw them offside and call a time out if they don't bite.
