News: Pollard can't be "the guy."

I don't think "being the guy" has to do with volume, it has to do with production. I don't care if he gets 10 or 15 carries, if he's breaking off long runs and scoring, he is "the guy".

Not if he's only doing it every third game and has too many 8 carries for 9 yards type games he's not. The fact of the matter is good defensive fronts have stonewalled Pollard on more than one occasion .. while Zeke might drop from 5.5 ypc against chumps to 4.5 ypc against decent fronts to 3.5 ypc against good fronts, Pollard has gone from 7 ypc against chumps, 5 ypc against decent all the way down to < 2 ypc against good fronts.. His highs are higher but his lows are lower. Which I guess works to a point but which one you prefer is kind of a vanilla/chocolate/strawberry kinda question. You also have to ask yourself which you're more likely to see come playoff time. I know what my guess would be..

To me it still comes back to needing both because having both enables you to play different styles and different styles force defenses to prepare for and defense differently. To me that's advantage Cowboys.. It also bears stating again that playing Pollard more tires him out and will eventually cause him to lose that big play ability. The physical beating of fighting through a good front 7 versus a triple A team front 7 like the Bears is a real thing. Fortunately for us, Green Bay is another patsy defense. If Zeke sits I fully expect Pollard to eat against them. If Zeke plays I expect him to do likewise.

Lol, you’re a trip dude.

Who on here has said to can Zeke?

We need Zeke, we just need more TP. It ain’t rocket science.

Don't be obtuse man.. Surely you have seen all these clowns calling for Zeke's head over the last three seasons. I can only conclude he banged their sister or something.. because the amount of vitriol they spew in his direction doesn't make sense otherwise.

Maybe some of the other crazy posters…you’re one of the few Zeke advocates I actually respect because you bring perspective and knowledge even though we don’t agree.

I’ll never call for Zeke’s head this season…we need him. Regardless of who gets more carries him and TP are a nasty 1/2 punch.

That being said when it’s time to unload his contract…that’s another story.

The guy above your post...is exactly who I am talking about.

And no...you don;t need zeke at all with 10 carries. That's saying you don't need him. You need some shmuck to spell pollard.

You do not understand football at all...especially not a power back. Give Emmitt 10 -12 carries a game...ande what does he do? Get your wraith that;s what. They wont; get yards until after the 10 hard carries. You give those carries (along with outside plays) to Pollard and act like he's the better back.

Not how it works (let's ask Emmitt)...but do carry on.

I’ve clearly stated the why behind my argument multiple times and you just continue to come back with “zeke needs more carries” and “what would Emmit do.”

You don’t have to believe me, look at what the coaches are doing. Zekes workload has been shrinking and it’s for a reason.

That being said when it’s time to unload his contract…that’s another story.

The contract was a reward for being one of the 4-5 best players in the game his first three seasons. It was also awarded at a time when we THOUGHT the Cowboys were going to continue to lean on him for another 3-4 seasons. I have said many times, if that wasn't their plan then they never should have done the deal. I will however NEVER join the chorus of hating on Zeke for that. He signed the deal thinking he was going to be asked to keep being the great football player he was.. The Cowboys have CHOSEN not to allow him to do so these past three seasons.. Now some of that has been they discovered that this 4th round pick out of Memphis turned out to be better than they thought as the change of pace back and some of it has been the shift to Air Kellen ( or Air Dak whichever you choose to call it.) And yes even some of it has been Zeke himself getting a little older and the physical toll of doing what he is now asked to do, which is function as a fullback and an extra offensive lineman has taken away some of his big play ability. Which again.. Neither his fault nor his choosing. But he has done what has been asked of him.

He has amicably ceded that big play responsibility to Pollard. For that he should be applauded not derided as some do here. However the need for what Zeke brings to the offense has not gone away. Yes Pollard has shown he can run wild on bottom 5 run defenses. Newsflash.. So has Zeke.. So has pretty much every other RB in the league.. That's why those defenses are bottom 5 to begin with. What Pollard has yet to do, which Zeke has, is grind out 80 yards on 22 carries against a TOUGH ARSE front seven that is defeating our line more often than not. None of which is to say Pollard CAN'T do that.. but to this point, four years in, we haven't really seen it. When we do, we'll feel better about handing him the keys.. at least I will. But as long as he's on the sideline telling his position coach "I'm done" after 15 touches on 30 snaps .. I'm going to stand firmly on the "he's a complementary role player" side of the fence. A REALLY GOOD complementary role player.. but a complementary role player none-the-less.

The contract was awful even if he wasn’t going to start declining…you just don’t pay RBs big money let alone draft them in the top 5.

Again I agree we need Zeke bc in todays NFL you need 2 backs but I dont think he deserves 20+ carries anymore. He hasn’t conceded big plays to Pollard he just literally can’t make them himself anymore. This isn’t my opinion, it’s on the tape and in every explosive stat out there. TP didn’t need to grind the defense to strike last game - he had a 17 yard rush in the 1st quarter and a 18 yard rush in the 2nd.

And for the millionth time - no one is asking Pollard to be the 20+ carry workhorse. Also, he just came out and said he was joking about being tired.

I responded to you because you said nobody does that. He does. You are wrong.

So you trust these coaches and execs THAT much? Only when it suits your agenda. Zeke's reduced carries for several years now...is MISMANAGEMENT...and directly tied to his lower stats. Not the other way around.

If zeke isn't getting 8-10 carries in the 4th qtr alone....MISMANAGEMENT!

How long have you been a Cowboys fan? Our #2 have ALWAYS had obscene numbers. The #2 change of pace...is SUPPOSED to.

Until they get #1..then they flake out.

Not saying Pollard will. But he did gas out his full start. Now do that game after game after game. BE...the leading rusher in the league.

Then we can talk.

Keep telling yourself that as Pollard outplays him this year and he’s gone next year due to his contract.

Getting to the big dance is more about grinding plays from your RB than about big plays.

We heard him complaining on the sideline, then according to one post above, he didn't get another touch after the TD he said he was done.

Of course it was a joke. It was a "drop the mic" moment. "Momba out". Like................what more do I have to do?

He said, after the TD, that his legs were tired and he felt like he was barely moving. (Paraphrasing, since I don't remember his exact words.) Granted, he had a lot of yards, and also played downs where he didn't get the ball. I'd prefer to limit his carries and preserve his health for a playoff run.

What is the relevance of your point here?

Getting to the big dance is more about grinding plays from your RB than about big plays.

Here’s you’re last 3 Super Bowl winners:

- Rams - Akers (below average)
- Bucs - Leo (average at best)
- Chiefs - Williams (below average, not on roster anymore)

These teams didn’t get to the dance and win by grinding it out with their running backs.

You don't even know what you are saying.

I'm telling you...if you give Zeke 10 carries....just let him go. Yes...you WILL need another Rb...of course. "Any old/new rb will do".

You are mis-using zeke! It's that simple.

He is a power back that gets better with more carries. That doesn;t happen at 10 carries. It's a tried and true method. BS? Ask Emmitt.

...let him go to a team that WILL use him right....15-20 carries...most in the 2nd half.

You have to understand these Zeke apologists have nothing they can say. So they stick to their talking points:

-Zeke is a better pass blocker
-Pollard cant handle a full load

Both are side points and carry little weight in the real discussion. Pollard is the much better back and needs to not only begin the game, but get his 15- 20 total touches as a priority. Zeke can spell him until then, do some short yardage and GL stuff and then finish blowouts. Thats the perfect combination.

Zeke has a role, just no longer the lead roll. Pollard has earned it.

I do understand, bc I’m actually considering the financial implications. We can’t let him go, he has a monster contract. This isn’t fantasy land.

There it is - “ask Emmit.”
