Sources: Hopkins would welcome trade to Cowboys; willing to make financial concessions

If we are going to pay $15-20 million per year, why did we not just keep Coop?

Nobody has been able to explain to me the logic behind trading away Coop because he makes too much money and then turning around and either trading (Dhop) or signing (OBJ) another receiver that is older, more injury prone, and makes almost the same amount of money.

Somebody please explain to me the logic behind trading away Coop for a 5th round pick and then turning right around and trading a 2nd round pick for an older receiver making the same money or signing an older and more injury prone receiver making the same amount of money.

We couldnt restructure some contracts to keep Coop, but we can restructure contracts to sign OBJ or trade a premium pick for Dhop and pay them basically what Coop was being paid. Makes absolutely no sense to run a team like this. Anybody care to explain to Beast the logic behind this, maybe I am missing something.
You must of had a week off when the Coop Question was done to death......the bottom line was if Coop had played '2022 Coop' in 2021 then he could well have been here (especially with the way he contract was structured). The similarity between Coop and DHop is that neither were/are happy where they were and that ownership of both are prepared to move on.

Face it jerry Jones is cheap. he never goes all in and he always signs players who are bargains/projects. If they were giving DHop away jerr would do it. Don’t expect him to change.

Here’s some logic….Hopkins is a DOG. Has been a top 5 receiver most of his career. He doesn’t get taken out of games by double coverage.

Cooper has never sniffed top 5. Never top 10. He’s not a dog. He gets taken out of games especially road and big games.

I would’ve never gotten rid of him but it was clear that while he had his shortcomings on the field it was off the field that rubbed them the wrong way. I personally believe Mike didn’t like him for the same reasons Gruden didn’t like him and shipped him out. And to show how much value he had nobody around the league wanted to cough up much higher than a 5th.

Jerry has paid double the going price for running backs. Overpaid Dak. Gave the Lions two first rounders for a mediocre WR in his desperation to win a championship. Your comments show you know zero about Jerry. He'd probably give up one of his nuts for another Super Bowl. If there was no salary cap he'd happily build a roster of $500 million.

Jerry is the opposite of cheap. Jerry desperately wants to win.

Here are his real flaws:
-He wants control and he wants credit - which chases off good head coaches
-He selfishly views the Cowboys as one of his family's toys
-He's old and he's a drunk
-Because his people are smart enough they never stink. So they never are in position to draft a top QB

No. Cooper only got us a 5th round pick in exchange because this:

Cooper salary of $20 million per year. Trades aren't for players...they are for players + their contracts.

Cooper has never sniffed top 5. Never top 10.
Uh...no. The league pays him top 10 money. He keeps getting awarded top-ten recognition, with 6 pro bowl nods. Absolutely has been top 10 in WR stats several years.

I'm not counting on anything being done on the Cowboys' end. It's apparent that they've already done their homework and aren't willing to make a deal for any team requiring an early draft pick or a notable WR contract such as Andre Hopkins. They're basically looking for a cheap deal that any sensible WR of note would balk at. That evidently includes OBJ and Andre Hopkins. The Cowboys FO expects to be catered to, not the other way around, SMH. It's just an old story that insists upon repeating itself. The fact that they haven't bothered to contact those like Hopkins or even OBJ lately are, obviously, with little or no hope at all. I'm down to mainly looking to the NFL Draft for news to be forthcoming.

Dak should be tweeting, going to the media, talking to anybody that will listen that he wants Hopkins.

That way Jerry will feel some pressure and if nothing gets done then Jerry looks like the fools he is.

But we know Dak won't do that. Dak isn't built like that. Dak will remain silent and collect his pay check because he doesn't care.
Oh look. Taking an opportunity to bash the QB in yet another thread not about the QB. Troll behaviour.

Also. There have already been reports this off-season not even 3 weeks ago about Dak voicing his frustration with the FO. Lol. You must have missed that Dak thread. Funny how that happens eh?

So are you saying we just give the Cards what they want? From what I can see we have:

Pros
- DHop doesnt want to to stay through a team whilst they rebuild
- Is marking his territory by using the media to indicate his preferred destination (to offset the fact that he's lost the no-trade clause and make sure ONLY the teams he wants go and get him).

Cons
- NFL knows we need a receiver who Dak can trust
- in a weak trade/FA/Draft class the one handed WR is king.....the market has elevated DHop's worth (a fact not lost on the Cards).
- Cards dont need to trade him, they have no CAP concerns and would probably value draft capital in order to help facilitate a rebuild. Indeed unless DHop is serious and holds out (unlikely with two years left on the contract).
-Jerry isnt a GM that value's a deal where both sides win, he wants to show how HE won.

Reality
-there is a deal in the offing, however, we're in the posturing stage.
-the next stage is when both sides put away their appendages and actually accept that there's a mutual interest.
-the deal may well involve other players/cash/picks to even out the take .....remove Jerry/Stephen from this aspect and put the football need before any other consideration.

This would be a huge upgrade. And an upgrade over Amari Cooper since the crying hasn't really subsided.
Ironically, we wouldn’t be in such desperate need of a WR had we just kept Amari. Frankly, I think we might’ve won an extra game or two last year with him.

“It would be shocking if you knew the size of the check I would write if it guaranteed me a Super Bowl. And it would be obscene. There’s nothing that I would not do financially to get a Super Bowl. So, that’s a given. That’s a real given.”

Just remember this folks. He would do anything. Except add multiple players to help him win

All NFL teams pay the same amount in salary over the long term. There aren't any cheap teams or big spenders. What goes to one player comes away from others.

If there is a complaint to be made, its that Jerry has a history of overpaying "his" players which in turn doesn't leave much money left for others. Jerry has basically already decided that he is going to give massive contracts to Diggs and Parsons. Even though they don't show up on the books yet, the reticence to take on long term big money is because in Jerry and Stephen's minds, its already spent.

Are we talking 2021 Coop? The guy wasn't happy in Dallas....I think I can hear Idina Menzel warming up.

I suppose it's time to overreact and panic, it's time to overpay as we're a week away from the season starting.
I suppose the WR market has moved so quickly that: Chark, Cook, OBJ and DHop have all gone and we missed out on the draft

I think by draft day a deal will be made. I'd expect Dallas 2 sign either Ty or I. McKensie as insurance in the meantime.

I agree....feels like a day 2 type of trade with potentially swapping a few picks.

I don't get the panic, the fo has done a pretty good job so far shoring things up on the defensive side and based on what we are seeing there is room for optimism
