"It is just irritating, at least to me, to see people who think the Cowboys can easily upgrade the quarterback position. This is both a severe undervaluing of what Prescott brings to the table and an equally inaccurate overestimation of the likelihood of drafting a viable replacement. And when they do have to find a replacement, there is a real chance we will soon be longing for the level of play he provides now."

Couldn't have said it any better.
I hope you realize the exact same thing was said about Romo.... many times.

EVERY day. When most of these types talk about QBing they use Mahomes as an example.

And when they talk about moving on from Dak they simply say "we can just draft another QB". LOL

No solutions, just random statements.
It' random anger. They just want to whine.

Mahomes
Burrow
Hurts
Rodgers
Brady
Allen
Tannehill
Stafford

A list of QBs have who at least made a champ game appearance the last few seasons, if not accomplishing more.

It’s not just Mahomes, bro
That list is also full of failures who couldn’t even make the playoffs last year. Insane.

Oh, I agree. The grass isn't usually greener on the other side. Like the song from Cinderella (hair band group of the 80s):
Don't Know What You Got ('Till It's Gone). Most likely the reason Jerry never made an effort during Romo's tenure to draft a serious replacement because he didn't feel he could find someone better.

Don’t Know What You Got

Same thing today with Dak.

How many years did it take Peyton Manning again? Stafford did what in Detroit? I'll call Dak the next Romo if and when his story plays out that way.

He tries as hard as he can without actually saying it, but he clearly thinks plenty of Cowboy fans are as clueless as ever. My favorite line of the article right here. Almost word for word what some of us joke around about:

I get it. A quarterback is absolute trash unless he wins a Super Bowl. The success of a team is only determined by his play. All you have to do is go out and draft the next Patrick Mahomes.
I have to give you credit for continuously trying to sell to us here in the CZ this TURD of a QB.
Patience as Sept. will bring once again verify how truly inept he is for the position he is so underqualified for.
More Boos and garbage are incoming for your man-crush Mr. Prescott.
Don't be surprised if he's benched at some point for Rush as circumstances now are full tilt pressure-wise for inepto Prescott who everyone knows is a deer in the headlights under pressure.
P.S. A trash QB is one who plays like Trash just like Prescott esp in important games.

They are not repeating the same mistakes with Romo that they did with Dak. They did the exact opposite with Dak. They foisted the HC in training project on Romo, while Dak is the Garrett Qb in training who has been foisted on the team and the OCs. Garrett as a play caller and without Romo can be seen in NY, where if it weren’t for his connections to Mara wouldn’t have lasted even half a season and would have been fired along with Columbo. Jones just got a 40 million contract, while with Garrett calling the plays he threw for like 11 TDs and 15 INTs, meaning he got much worse from his rookie season.

Dak never had Garrett calling the plays and he walked into an all-pro line and RG to play-calling tailored to his skill-set by Linehan.

Dak has been baby-sat, while Romo was considered the savior of the franchise that was wallowing in mediocrity to the point they had to strip power away from Garrett and start having it to Romo.

If anything, Dak has been coddled by this FO more than any QB in history and for accomplishing absolutely nothing,

Guy still hasn’t thrown for over 40 TDs, despite throwing close to 5000 yards one season.

Why is it so irritating, though? Fans have opinions. I don't agree with all of them, but I'm not irritated by them because they ultimately don't matter. Who cares if fans undervalue or overvalue Dak? I understand that this is a discussion board. I just don't understand why some can't discuss a differing opinion without getting highly offended and having to resort to things like calling the other fan a "hater."

I thought Romo was a quarterback we could win with if we had a better defense, but there were some on here who thought he was a choker or a turnover machine (both claims that don't fit the facts) and couldn't replace him. Now, we're in the same boat with Dak. We can't win many playoff games and some want to place the blame mostly on his shoulders. It is what it is and the sooner some can learn to deal with that, the better off they are probably going to be. Blaming QBs for losses isn't going to go away. Sometimes they deserve that blame; often they do not. Certainly not for the fate of an entire team.

Each side just gets sick of the other's repeated argument. Not their own repeated argument.

The QB situation in the NFL can be best described as this:

Only about 4-5 quarterbacks are truly special in a given year, and only a handful become consistently great over their careers. Most don't. Therefore only a few teams in any given year will have QB play that could make up for a team that isn't great outside of the QB position.

This means for the rest of the league, they must surround their QB with good enough complementary players that they have a chance at the title in a given year. For those teams, consistency at QB position means more than anything else, so they know what resources to put around him as well as the system.

Every team that doesn't have Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers is going to have a fanbase that is perpetually unhappy with their QB. There is little that can be done about this in the short term as most QBs are never great, including many 'can't miss' type prospects in the first round. Drafting a great QB is a crapshoot, as even with high first round draft picks it doesn't guarantee a team gets an historically good player. More than likely a 1st round QB is mediocre or worse.

The overwhelming odds are that drafting a 1st round QB either leads to a bust, career backup, or decent (but not great) career starter. Every so often a special QB emerges from the draft that can overcome bad team construction. But it is exceedingly rare.

Therefore the majority of teams are just like the Cowboys with Dak every year, except that Dak is in the upper half of QBs and in a good year is easily top ten. Good enough to win with a great team, luck with only a few injuries along with some lucky bounces along the way, but certainly not a guarantee of results.

Sums up about half the posts on this board. I don’t even think either side can possibly be dumb enough to believe their ridiculous comments on the topic at this point. I think they have just dug themselves in so deeply that they have no choice but to keep doubling down…

Thing is, these talking heads or writers just have opinions too. It's not like they're creating a law that everyone has to abide.

The pathetic thing here is, that a fan uses an article from one of these guys who he agrees with to ridicule other fans. So basically he threw his tampon to instigate a cat fight.

Now I could find a quote or an article from someone else who shares the same opinion about Dak as I do but then I'd lower my level of arguing down to the level that Dak's play has in the NFL.

So, nah. What remains is, we all have an opinion about this matter (you know what Dirty Harry said about this ;) and each one has to be respected. I don't consider myself a hater, if anyone else does I don't care. It's not like I woke up one day and just said "ok Dak sucks". This comes from following this team for years and years and all he brings us is the same mediocrity we have seen for close to three decades now. So I want this dude gone, he had his chance.

With the history as it is we need to increase our "try different folks" rate substancially. Even if there was no equal replacement. Simply to initiate change.

Anyway, since he will stay, and I have no problem with accepting reality, I at least would draft a QB high this time, just to put some pressure on him.

The only way Dak can throw 40 TD is if it's a 30-game season.
Of course he would also have around 30 interceptions I mean common now were talking about Mr.Turnover Prescott here!

Only way their careers will end the same is after building a championship team around Dak. . . They stick Him on the Bench and start an inexperienced rookie bus driver, because of promised "Future Championships"
