I say Darnell Washington in rnd 1 and Israel abikande in 2 then online and defense
I saw you likely won't get a big immediate impact from your Rd 1 pick and the TB was overdrafted in the 2nd round.

This is my point.......taking a WR with 1st or 2nd rounders is pretty much giving up on Gallup and Tolbert after only a year. I have to see to believe it.
Not necessarily. It just means the Cowboys are not gonna get caught with Gallup not recovered from injury or Tolbert not developing. They don’t want to get caught with having to depend on Noah Brown types or having to bring in a TY Hilton type off the couch.

So they don't trust Gallup but just restructured him a month ago? Something don't add up there in that analysis. Either the Cowboys have no problem with Gallup and you aren't accurate or the Cowboys are really dumb and kicked more cap hits into the future despite not trusting him.
They are "hoping" Gallup returns to form. Adding another receiver protects them for having another situation happen again where they got little out of the position, outside of Lamb.

The point was...you would have 4 dudes that all bring something different
You also can't trade Gallup at this point.

If you trade him pre-June 1, you have to take a $17.4 million dead cap hit (made worse by their recent restructure).

Throw in the fact that Hopkins carries base salaries of nearly $20 million for this year (and next), you'd be taking a massive cap charge for just one WR when you combine the base salary charge for Hopkins + the accelerated cap hit for Gallup.

Thought we agreed in another thread.......whatever round they pick a WR ( believe you said round 1 or 2) will answer this. I'll agree about Tolbert a bit but my goodness, he was 4th round rookie. But Gallup ......... has guaranteed 2023 salary, and be completely healthy ( first time since 2021 ). As stated in the other thread........we'll see

Yes, we did, but telling others the same thing. Based on the tea leaves, it's looking likely they are going to take one by 58. Think Mingo might be their target.

If you are "hoping" that means you understand he might not. You don't restructure a guy and kick cap hits into the future on a guy you have questions about.

That would be pretty freaking stupid of the Cowboys to do that. Reality is the Cowboys seem pretty comfortable where Gallup is based on their restructuring of his deal.

You guys are just trying to create some scenario where taking a WR in the first round makes sense. It doesn't unless the draft board is just totally wasted or say JSN drops and he's too good to pass up. But Hyatt at 26 makes little sense.

Not surprising. Been a ton of smoke about WR's. Very curious who the target is
I think Mingo is their target. Heard a rumor this morning that they love him and Kiper also mocked him to the Cowboys recently. He fits that old prototype that they always target. He is like a poor man's Dez.

“Granted it was Bama” - wouldn’t that be the best team to have your best game against?

Speed is his calling card but he also has great hands. On tape his speed helps him obviously win on 9s / posts but it also makes him deadly on comebacks, crossers and slants.

I feel like “1 trick pony” is just a lazy eval if you actually watch him play. Every team in the SEC probably has a 4.3 WR and no one else blew up the league like he did last year.
It's not like we are at odds per say. I just don't recall him making big plays that weren't primarily just run by the defense. If you are assuring me that he already has the skills to do more, then yes that would ease my concerns. Also, note that I never questioned his hands. I'm not saying he can't catch it when it's there.

Mingo (or even Mims) in the 2nd or 3rd make better sense than Hyatt in the 1st.

I heard the Giants like Flowers. They like small receivers.
They need some size at the position or they will have a bunch of slot receivers. All receivers are in play with the Giants, heard they are hunting corners as well and are targeting a Center in rd 2.

Two things here
  • As Stephen stated, Gallup returned from his injury way too early after missing TC and preseason and it showed. There is no reason to think he's not fully healthy and ready to go.
  • Since when have Jerry and Stephen planned ahead on player acquisition? To think they are using a 1st or 2nd round pick at WR to be 4th on the depth chart ?

Where do they like him though? Pauline makes me think WR is a big 26 target. That is very high for Mingo

He is that big X receiver. MM has stated he wants Dak to get the ball out more quickly this yr and allow his playmakers to get the yardage after the catch. Mingo is one of the best in this class doing just that. He is similar to Burks from last year.

I am not sure we can take what Pauline said and assume WR is a clear target at 26.

One, because there really aren't that many true first round WRs.

My guess is that WR is a target for them down the road in later rounds. Taking any WR at 26, other than maybe JSN, seems kind of foolish.

They used 8 of their 30 visits on receivers that probably won’t be around when we pick in the second round…seems like at worst they are trying to take a receiver with their first two picks right?

I see Peter King picked Mayer right in front of us in his mock draft. King has become a Cowboys troll lately. I still can’t believe he said Purdy was better then Dak.

Not sure all 8 will definitely go before 58.

That being said, taking a WR at 26 is just dumb but every once in awhile this franchise gets stupid in the draft so nothing would surprise me at this point.
