From Bruce Feldman

"Very impressive numbers from Michigan TE Luke Schoonmaker at UM Pro Day. At over 6-5, 252, his 3-Cone time was 6.81. That was faster than every TE ran in Indy and only one WR or RB at the Combine (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) was quicker. Schoonmaker also had a 4.26 shuttle time."

Has the frame to easily add 10lbs. Probably needs more functional strength. I see him as a late bloomer that is just growing into his frame.

Really looks likes like a combination of Fergy and Hendershot.
34" vert 10'4" broad. 4.62 40 at 251 lbs. Exceptionally athletic.

the kind of guy DiNucci will find to consistently exploit defenses in preseason games

wow, seriously though, some athletic TEs coming out this year.

and DiNucci has a good gig right now, no reason to start blurring things up. #BreatheFire

The more I read about him, the more I like him.

There's obviously much more to playing tight end than this, but I was curious how his size, speed and blocking matched up against Kincaid and Schultz.

Schoonmaker
6'6" 249 lbs
4.63 40 time
Great blocker

Kincaid
6'4" 240 lbs
4.71 40 time
Average blocker

Schultz
6'5" 244 lbs
4.75 40 time
Average blocker

I became a fan over the last few weeks. Would have been happy if he was the TE in the 3rd round but if they were worried about all of the TEs being gone by then, I don't mind taking him at 58.

As his combine and pro day numbers showed, he's got all of the athleticm/speed...if he can translate that to the field more often then he could really be good. The age doesn't scare me...if he develops into a quality TE, they can play into their 30s at a high level. (Not comparing him to Kelce and Kittle as a prospect but they were 24 year old rookies so they were old too)

If Dalton Schultz can produce stats in this offense then I'm interested in seeing what Schoonmaker can develop into. His workout numbers are way better than Schultz's in 2018 and he's supposed to be a better blocker. Both had similar stats in college in "pro-style" offenses so the numbers weren't that impressive playing for Stanford and Michigan

Horrid pick.

Draft picks are commodities. Those trying to rationalize/justify this pick for a 25-26 year old blocking TE is just like spending $90,000 on a Kia Sorento and then arguing “it’s just what I need; reliable transportation.”
There is no justification. They wanted a TE and took the top ranked guy left, despite the fact he'll never get a second contract and is, in all likelihood, JAG

I think a lot of fans here drastically overestimate the ability of Hendershot and Ferguson. I don’t think either of them are more than JAG’s. Maybe Schoonmaker is JAG but I think he’s more complete than either of the two we have.

I’d be surprised if he doesn’t start.

Here’s two games. I challenge anyone to go through there and give me the time stamp of where he’s a difference making blocking TE, or doing something Fergy or even McKeon couldn’t do.
