They started that cycle of multi firsts by dealing their terrible QB for a haul.

When was the last time we traded a player for a premium pick? That doesn’t happen here.

I didn’t hurt them that the Saints were willing to trade a future first to get a DB while not having a QB. Lucky it wasn’t higher.
Yep, it doesn't happen here because they like our guys too much. Either that or they give them away for 5th-round picks because they need to get out from under the contract they overpaid.

Spags' notes from the draft. Good right up on how the Deuce Vaughn pick went down in the war room.
They huddled and decided to go with Vaughn, as he was the top of the board of the last players left. While his dad was out of the room.
Then told him when he came back in. He did not advocate to draft his son. Just let it play out.

This is what McClay said about drafts. As to picking later in the draft.

"It's the penalty of being good," said Will McClay, the Cowboys vice president of player personnel. "You set your board, and everybody has guys they like and think they can add value to (the team). But we don't control that. We control our board and what we think about the next guy that's up there.
"It is what it is. There is nothing you can do about it."

More fans need to understand this better IMO.
Good stuff

Dallas has mostly been a stick-your-board (or tiers-on-the-board) team for years now.

When folks get upset here, it needs to be with that in mind.

It is the Dallas board they have an issue with because it doesn't match their(or some pundits') board.

But the better your roster is combined with thr later you pick, the harder it is to find immediate starters unless you lost a ton in FA.

Garrett did exactly the same from 2014 to 2016 as McCarthy from 2020 to 2022. Substitute Garrett's 2015 of losing his starting QB for McCarthys 2020 of losing his.

Same results.

And NO,
I'm not a Garrett guy.
I just don't like McCarthy either, so there's that.
Ummmm. Are we just going to leave out the years before 2014? Where Garrett and the Cowboys lost 3 straight win and your in games for the playoffs to go 8-8?

If there's nothing you can do about then why did the Eagles have a top 10 pick after playing for a Super Bowl?

It's because they actually try to be better and make deals.

Stop believing the lies.
If you are advocating trading Dak for a future 1st then maybe that can happen

You don't care so much that you decided to joining a Dallas Cowboys message board and argue with anyone that doesn't think they're great.
Whats next? You gonna compare the cowboys to air? Just admit you're hooked and move along. This is the bases of the convo but you keep shifting.

The draft didn’t fall the way they hoped it would imo. I think they wanted Kincaid in round 1 and probably would have gone OL in round 2 in that instance. Buffalo trading up forced us to focus on the trenches in round 1 which may work out for us.
It’s been reported Laporta was their top TE…

The choice was between Mazi, Bergeron, Avila, trade down.

"It's the penalty of being good" says the figure head for a franchise that hasn't done anything for almost 30 years.

We're so good it makes it almost impossible to get any better.
Impossible lol lol lol 5 rings are so much these days lol

What about 10 to 14? lol Garrett and Phillips both should’ve been fired the day after the Minnesota playoff game embarrassment. These coaches are not even close to the same thing.

4-12 in 2015

He still failed overall, 10 years....MM has not looked as bad in his 3 years. They were heading the right direction until Dak went down.
Garrett had up and down years, and yes romo was injured some of those. But it is obvious MM is so much better.

Garrett still did not follow up on 2017 to 2019 to improve. Yeah won playoff game in 2019, then 8-8 the next season.
He had 4 seasons of 8-8 records, 3 in a row, all win and in games and failed every time.

30 years of nothing and you're supporting this figure head saying "it's the penalty of being good"? lol

Where is all that "good"?

Will McClay has seen us win 4 Wild Card games in his career. That's it. You shouldn't let this dude act like we're just too darn good to get better.
Just a straight forward question: Ever try to be subject matter correct to most of the informational 'reasons' actually being something that is NOT solely basked upon vintage sense of a lack of missed 'entitllement?'

Coaching matters.

The Eagles lost Shane Steichen it could be a similar situation as when Frank Reich left for the Colts. Time will tell.

The Cowboys lost Kellen Moore, it could be a similar situation as when they lost Jason Garrett. Time will tell.

It’s all conjecture…Kincaid would have been a natural Schultz replacement and given Dak a big target that can get open. I sorta feel like that’s what they coveted over a blocking TE. But maybe they feel Ferguson will fill Schultz’s role fine.
