I did not expect Gallup to be back but I think this organization had every right to expect him to be better than he was last year. Gallup on one leg should be better than Noah Brown and he wasn't.

And from what I reads it wasn't all physical limitations. He seemed to have issues mentally getting off the field which is to be expected but was very telling.
Players coming off ACL tears often have trouble coming back. Whether it's mental or physical does not matter. Dallas knew Gallup wasn't going to be ready to start the season and should have had reasonable expectations that he might not be the same when he did.

Gallup says here that he couldn't even walk at this time last year. That should have given the team pause concerning any expectations. It should have given fans pause, too, but many seem to blow off injuries/surgery like it shouldn't even affect the player.

I hope for his and everyone’s sake that this is 100% true.

I also think him returning to the third receiver position will benefit both him and the team. I think Gallup is an adequate No. 2 receiver, but a standout third receiver. When teams are focused on stopping the No. 1 and No. 2, he can eat.

Agreed.

But in addition to the knee, his overall performance needs a rebound as well. He was bad last year.

So we were depending on a guy that couldn't walk, a jag, and a 3rd round rookie
OK, stop me if you heard this one ... a guy who couldn't walk, a jag and a 3rd-round rookie walk into a bar, and Jerry Jones tells the bartender, "That's exactly what I was looking for. Now, give me another round of Johnny Walker Blue."

I think it will because I see no reason to think his performance wasn't tied to his recovery. Of course, some players are never the same after a major injury.

I certainly hope so.

Pollard injury is much different. Though, a little concerning I've seen no news. Steel is the one to be concerned with, IMO.
Indications were Steele's recovery has been going well. And I'm less concerned about a lineman recovering from a leg injury than a running back. Backs have to be able to plant and cut. They need a full range of movement skills. A break means that we don't have to worry about Pollard's joints, but trusting the leg to take the torque and twisting needed is a different issue.

I don't know why anyone, including this team, expected Gallup to be the same last season coming off ACL surgery. Players often take a step back the first year. The team's poor planning at receiver was the problem last year, not Gallup.

His "fans" have been very quick to write him off. He deserves this year to prove them wrong.

It is, but it was serious nonetheless. And we're expecting him to carry the brunt of the rushing load?
I just don't think he's going to be a 100 percent. But I hope I'm wrong.

This should give everyone concern about how effective Pollard will be this season.
The same FO that stood pat with Gallup coming off surgery is doing the exact thing with Pollard

so I figure we get our new running back after this season when it will be too late

It’s a concern, especially when we don’t have someone backing him up we’re sure about. He was our top playmaker on offense last season. If we can’t break some big runs and move the chains on some short runs, it’s going to lead to some big issues.

And if we were to compare the situations between Gallup and Steele, how close do you believe we are to Steele being at 100%? 2024/25?

Pollard just had a fracture that didn’t even require surgery. Literally, the surgeon said it’ll be fine just healing. That is light years away from an ACL surgery.

They did go in and do a little for his high ankle sprain but guys recover from high ankle sprains in the same season all the time.

The high ankle sprain is more troublesome than the fracture.

There is zero reason for Pollard to not be the same guy.
