Why are we in a rush to sign Dak?

I disagree. I never gave all the credit for the bucs game to Dak. you in your agenda driven, pre-determined and planned line of argument are jumping to conclusions that you have already determined (regardless). I asked, why are you blaming the 9ers game on Dak only and what about the Bucs game then..........you are saying I am giving credit for Bucs game to Dak and share blame in 9ers game, which is far from the facts.

teams win/lose. not individuals. contribution may differe depending on the player, position and game.
and Dak is not elite. will never be elite. so why the argument that he is unable to play at elite level? its a moot point of argument. but I get it. you have a pre-determined pre-planned line of argument you have to follow and come hell or high water you are going to follow it.....I get it.
I'm pointing to the aspects of Dak's game/skillset/ psyche that comes up short time and time again...namely: playing a good defense, that especially plays deep coverage and in circumstances that he's in a 'hurry-up' situation and needs a TD.
He appears to lose composure as he goes through progressions as if he doesn't trust himself...now there may be an improvement going to a WCO (I think there will be), but Air Coryell scheme is not for him.

So you are limiting a man showing his ability to a time line of a single man, who had the same stated excuse for not accompanying greatness...time is ONLY a sequence of events. You stating he won't now or hiding behind an abstract excuse of time or age?
You brought up Peyton. How many QB’s that have been a starter on the same team for as long as Dak has been (and at his age)-and never even gotten to the conference championship game-get an extension and then get to the conference championship game or Super Bowl? In the history of the league?

They do not exist because most teams know by that time where the team’s ceiling is with said QB. They move on with the chance to get younger and better at the position. That’s not how this team operates (see Romo).

see, there is the spin. we give him credit, but they weren't any good. so anytime he does something well, its somebody else who helped, or the other team is not good.

and yes, 9ers were a much better team and tougher and we had one weapon all game, CD. Pollard went out and the complexion of the game changed. Niners, didn't fear the run, dropped 6, 7 into coverage and took away passing lanes. and Dak was bad against the niners, but so was Gallup, Brown, Schultz and the OL didn't help. still yet, we were in it into the 4th quarter, but I could see it slowly slipping away.
Why are so many here concerned that Dak does not receive proper credit, lol? He played well against a bad team then got exposed against a very good defense.

I disagree about the OL in the 49ers game. They played excellent against a nasty front seven. Dak played terribly the entire game. Many completions were shaky and poor passes. He had extreme trouble just reading the pocket pressure and making decisions. Then had trouble executing passes when there was time. Gallup and Brown were not as bad as Dak BUT Schultz was. There were opportunities to score more points and avoid turnovers. Dak failed miserably and deserves the bulk of blame for the offensive performance.

It’s also worth noting that because he’s had two dreadful performances in a row versus a high end defense in the playoffs-there should not be a major extension for him until he proves he can perform well under those circumstances. From a football performance standpoint-not marketing/sales standpoint.

For starters, Dak Prescott has earned the right to lead the Dallas Cowboys. They are in the thick of competition right now. I won't drag a discussion further into the dirt, by using an abstract concept for failure that includes other positional groups that have altered and changed quite a bit over the past three seasons. That IS the team.

I also won't belittle what the team has accomplished to talk insultive terms that ultimately aren't a single player's fault.

The use of a stereotyped excuse doesn't touch the coat tails of seeing or appreciating the sacrifices and pain to get to where the team is in good shape to start this very season.

Myself, don't drag this fan into one's own sense of disappointment and disrespectful excuse hunting.

I'm a fan of the Cowboys and support them accordingly. Dak is fine and not near over - the - hill.

We are both fans. I don’t belittle accomplishments. I recognize that getting to and winning conference championships and super bowls is the goal (for every single franchise).

That pursuit can lead to moving on from aging veterans because a roster evolves and has to be replaced/upgraded. Dak is an aging vet who has likely played his best football. Unless an aging (29+) player has proven their worth at those high level contests-there is no need (or obligation) to continue extending the building of the team around them-besides monetizing off sentimental fans.

He is still one of the top three offensive tackles in the NFL, and his age doesn't mean anything there, except a stereotype.

This management group is fully capable of smartly managing personnel and finally have depth and cap room to fully utilize positional cap funds. They really aren't in the business of being stupid or even ignorant.

yes, it comes up short. he is not elite, as a result he will have those short comings. and as a result we need to build a team differently than you would if we had mahomes. unless you are advocating for us to just throw in the towel and go searching for an elite QB.

again, you are trying to prove he is not elite....again, you have a pre-planned line of argument that you can't deviate from. you are having a tough time with that.

who is concerned? a question is not a concern.

Dak played bad. those interceptions were awful. and OL played decent not great. I think losing Pollard changed the complexion of the game. we know Dak is not elite and he needs the right support around for us to succeed. without pollard, it allowed SF to drop more into coverage and a WR unit that was already not performing, played even worse. the choice was either CD or nobody else was able to do anything. Dak failed. Gallup Failed. Schultz failed. why do you have trouble saying that others on the team played bad?

I don't care about the extension. before I argued we should have given him a contract sooner and not allowed ourselves to get into the franchise tagging. it would have cost a lot less and we would have been in better position to move on if we wanted. Jerry screwed up the negotiations over a couple of million a year, eventually ending up paying 5 times that extra. now, we should wait before we extend, given where the team is today. but we also have to have a plan for replacing Dak, which we don't look like we do. so what's the plan if not Dak?

This is the second time today that you've been called out for putting words into people's mouths.

Its nothing to do with how he's ranked, elite or not doesnt matter, the issue is whether he can contribute to a team winning a SB. There's nothing he's done so far that indicates he can do that (Example 1 - he doesnt appear to have the capacity to drag a struggling team through the play-offs). Continuing to HOPE that he can maintain composure and consistency throughout the play-offs isnt a strategy, especially when he's hoping/expecting to get paid $40m+ (and the Prorated Bonus' from the existing deal).

Give him 2023 to prove that he can stand up and be counted when things are going wrong in the play-offs, i'm not even particularly asking for results, just a glimpse that he's capable.

C'mon, he played strong and Dallas won 12 regular season games and 1 playoff game. Age Rage

As to age as a factor, Darrell Green holds the following NFL and Commander records:
*First NFL player to make at least one interception in 19 consecutive seasons.
*First NFL player to return an interception for a touchdown at age 37.
*First NFL player to play cornerback at the age of 42.
*First Commander to play 20 consecutive seasons, start in 254 games and play 279 games.
*First Commander to have 54 interceptions.
*First Commander to return a fumble 78 yards for a touchdown, longest in Commander history.
*First Commander to return six interceptions for touchdowns in a season.

The team is using high levels of pay for a backup on other positions at present.

so what's the plan if not Dak?
That's not a reason to keep Dak on a $40m+ contract. The actual answer is we save $34m by post June cut in 2024 and use that money to maintain the roster and draft his replacement in what's being described as a good QB draft class. The success of the rookie QB is somewhat based around the strength of the team he's going into.

A relative alternative as well as head coach pressure if the playoffs aren't an aggressive picture...but this fan already content to just wait and see. Actually I don't need to be trash talking like a player.

This lineup is already built up to fully compete...one or two players from here, and there should be little doubt than wrestling NFC East crown from the Eagles.

Indeed, this lineup is built to compete now and that's why we cant afford to endlessly wait another year. The answer may not be add pieces around Dak, but move on from him as he hasnt the make-up to take the next step. Maybe play behind a rookie QB and use the saved CAP on FA's...that's a possibility for 2024, in the mean time Dak has the opportunity, in 2023, to make himself indispensable.

That says defeated already...I'll just play out the cards chosen and see, for now. There is much more that says passes and not failed.

This is relevant as well to the quarterback play:

2) Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys look like they may have the best pass rush in 2023 and supplement that with a secondary featuring both Trevon Diggs and Stephon Gilmore. Losing Anthony Brown means very little in that context, and they have very little roster turnover aside from that. They should continue to play at a high level going forward.

8) Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles lost their starting duo of linebackers, an interior defensive lineman, both starting safeties, and defensive line depth. Nevertheless, keeping their cornerbacks and continuously adding to the defense in the draft in the previous two years has allowed them the flexibility to maintain their defensive edge — though not at quite the level they played at last year.

I didn't say its a reason to keep him. but not having a plan to replace him is worse.

and to this date, I have yet to see us not being able to keep those we want or letting anyone of significant go because of money. Cap is easily manipulated. we are already talking about extending CD and Diggs, knowing parson is next.

now, lets go and find the replacement. no Rookie QB really find success, given good ones go top of first round. then its almost pure luck to find one in lower rounds. facts are 80% of first round QBs fail. the percentage is higher for lower rounds.

we have to dip in and draft in first round sooner than later. but it has to be a good draft for QBs, as this year looked like a bunch of average at best candidates with a ton of question marks.

So by that logic you'd keep a Kirk Cousins because he puts up decent figures but'll never take a team any further (I'll have to spell this out for you as you're prone to misinterpretation....I am not comparing the players). You have to cut your loses if that player (AS GOOD AS HE MAY BE) isnt going to get you there, maybe due a flaw which he cant overcome.

The 2024 draft is supposedly a very good QB class (better than this years).
