When did Washington go undefeated?
Never. :banghead: Good catch. lol. Washington pisses me off so bad and I was typing so quickly.

I was thinking of the last team that had a chance of ending the Dolphins' perfect season. The thought stuck. Lesson: finish what I am doing at work first in the moment and then post.

Thanks for correction.

+1...... really simple, post-season will expose your weakness. Sure, the offense was top 5 the last 2/3 years but at the end of the day, it made no difference in the post season.
The Cowboys have lost to the 49ers in back to back seasons. Defense proved they were good enough in the rematch, it is now up to the offense to do it's part. 49ers are the best defense in the entire league, have to be able to attack them in every way to have success. Fixing the run game is paramount, but also having better playmakers to exploit matchups.

No problem. All of us have flaws and have brain farts. I know I've had my share - and plenty.
I thought you might have been referring to the earlier days.
Thanks for clarifying. :)

I actually think the passing game will be more efficient and perhaps more productive on the critical 3rd downs. If McCarthy is smart enough to do away with the option routes from the Garrett era and scheme his players open, we could very well see less 3 and outs this year

You were suggesting taking the ball out of his hands more. To dominate your QB has to play at a high level and you have to be able to score points. Like I said this isn’t the 70s and 80s and a 4 yards and a cloud of dust league anymore. The Eagles had great success because their QB played at an MVP level last season and they were solid offensively and defensively. It’s complicated to come up with a complete team like they had. I agree that Dak has played better when we have a solid running game but my point is you can’t lean on the run all day. Our defense can’t seem to hold up the entire season and you score a lot of points in the passing game. Right now our RB situation is a concern. Pollard is coming off a serious injury, and we moved on from Zeke who was our push the pile, short yardage back. What ended up costing us in the playoffs was Dak not being efficient and not being able to run the ball. We can’t just try and protect him with a running game all day he has to step up.
him stepping up is the problem. We know the history of success with this team for the last 30 years is when we run for 100 or more. We do have to take the ball out of his hands more, and this is to control the clock and not have our D burn out late in games and late in the season like we did. Hurts is in a perfect situation right now having strength on both side of the ball, and his head office. With the many issues that are facing our offense right now, Dak does not have the amunition to be able to step up and carry this team. Not only do we have an unknown in Pollard, we have a larger unknown in TE, unknown health at WR and not to mention a massive unknown of health on our OL. Right now our D will determine the success of this team, and the best way to have them dominate is to keep our offense on the field.

Cowboys Offense to 'Take a Step Backward!' Under Mike McCarthy Says Ex NFL QB

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is now the offensive play-caller, but the move has been met with criticism and doubts as to whether Dallas will be better offensively because of it.
The Dallas Cowboys have undergone several changes this offseason, the most significant being head coach Mike McCarthy taking over the offensive play calling from Kellen Moore.

Under Moore, Dallas was one of the best offenses in football. Now with the Los Angeles Chargers acquiring his services and McCarthy taking over, some have their doubts about the Cowboys moving on from a coordinator who put up points as Moore's offense did.

Former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck is one detractor of McCarthy calling the plays next season, and Hasselbeck doesn't see it ending well in Frisco.

"I think it's going to take a step backward," Hasselbeck said on NFL Live. "I don't understand this talk about how this offense was somehow a disaster under Kellen Moore. You realize, four years he was the offensive coordinator there, there's one team that scored more points in the NFL - it was the Kansas City Chiefs.
That’s a crazy stat. Only Chiefs scored more points while Moore was here.

And why he was probably just another scapegoat . McCarthy is likely next.

Meanwhile look for Herbert and Chargers light it up.

The game has changed, you can’t win a championship these days with your offense revolving around the running game. The teams that have the leading rushers aren’t winning titles. You have to score points that comes with the passing game. Everything revolves around the QB but any team that has to be carried by their QB usually doesn’t get very far. That will catch up with you in the playoffs. However, your QB does have to be able to carry their team at times, in certain situations. Perfect example was in this past Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes in the second half. He took control despite an injured ankle. The Cowboys do need to run the ball more consistently, but Dak is going to have to step up his game. When he plays well the Cowboys usually win. That’s how it is for most teams because it’s a QB driven league. The Cowboys are never going to build a great enough team offensively and defensively to overcome poor QB play. It comes down to your QB in the playoffs. At some point it’s going to be on them having to make plays for you to win. Dak has got to be better this upcoming season or he’s not going to be the answer.

Good look with that.

Prescott in Moore's offense in 2022:
9.08 yards per attempt*
48 of 105 3rd down passes passes netted First Down or TD...for 46% 3rd down conversion rate, which is outstanding

This was achieved without a healthy 2nd WR and no legit 3rd WR

*for comparison opposing offenses in Cowboys games averaged 6.7 yards per attempt on third down.

no doubt, but the teams that win Super Bowls have the QB that carries them mostt of if not all the time. Dak has had enough years here for us to know he is not that kind of guy, very few are. Again, his success of putting up numbers is when we can also run the ball. When we have no running game, he is dead man walking. Look no further than our record when we rush over 100+ yards...the days of expecting Dak to step up are long gone, we can no longer ask him to carry the team. End of story....if we want to be talked about in the post season

We want the ball and we’re gonna score hasslebeck lol. Moore only bothered me in the crucial situational moments. He seemed in over his head when up against good defenses. I’m not sure McCarthy is the answer either but I’m okay with him taking a swing at it. If it’s a flop…..jerry moves on and that’s okay also.

The team lost : Zeke, McGovern, Brown, Schultz. McGovern only looks like a loss because they did not sign a LG

The team added : Schoonmaker, Cooks, Jones. Gallup is back healthy and Pollard is the #1 guy.

There is no reason to think this team regresses or doesn’t put up similar numbers
Sure there is. We have less talent at TE than we did last year. Schultz is a big loss and Daks primary outlet. Maybe someone steps up and replaces his production but that's not a given. Zeke was good last in his limited role of protecting Dak and picking up short yardage 3rd downs. Jones doesn't replace that part of the offense. Pollard was the #1 guy last year, made the pro bowl, and its hard to imagine him improving on what he did last year coming off the injury. Cooks is the only addition that upgrades anything, but it is not a given he's going to make all that much difference as Dak usually has 2-3 talented wrs to throw too.

The only question here is can Dak raise his level play in the playoffs. What he did last year against SF isn't good enough. Throwing 15 INTs isn't good enough.

Prior to his ankle injury in 2020 he was carrying the team a lot. Go look at all the 400 yard passing games he had with over 50 attempts. We weren’t running the ball well in those games, which is why he had to throw a lot. He’s regressed since then. If he isn’t able to step up in games, especially in the playoffs we can forget about winning a championship with him.

we can go back and forth all night, but you kind of proved my point in what I am saying. Nobody really cares how our team performs during the season, what matters are the playoffs. We don't need to debate how Dak has performed, do we? Is all the blame on him? Not at all, but doing the eyeball test it's evident he has not been able to carry us Even an idiot like me knows your running game will only be as effective as your passing game is and vice versa. In order for Dak to succeed he needs our running game to succeed, it is just that plain and simple. When the earth rotates on it's proper axis he can be effective, when it doesn't he is challenged. There is a reason MM is focussing on the running game isn't there? I would think he knows a bit more than you and I do in terms of what needs to be done to succeeed because past ways haven't....enjoy the back and forth with you as always

You might want to go back-and-forth all night, but I don’t. Everyone here cares how we perform during the regular season, because if we don’t perform well we won’t make the playoffs. It’s the momentum you gain during the regular season that propels you through the playoffs. Your team is established during the regular season. We need to run the ball efficiently, but to win a championship your QB has to perform at a high-level and make plays in critical games. This is why most Super Bowl MVPs and league MVPs are QBs. It comes down to them having to perform at a very high-level if you’re going to be successful. For the Cowboys to advance deep in the playoffs and win a championship, Dak has to step his game up. He can’t be turning the ball over in the playoffs, especially in the redzone. Everyone has to step up around him, but he has to perform at a high-level. This is true for every team that wants to win a championship. In the two playoff games we’ve lost to San Francisco he hasn’t played well.

Its not so much the amount of scoring as it is the effeciency, I dont care if we have the top scoring offense.... I do care that we score at a very high % when we have the ball... if MM can do that while eating clock we will win alot of games including in the playoffs.

Talk about low hanging fruit. There isn't any other direction to go. However, if we can control the clock and help keep the defense fresh , AND score when it matters.....the step back may only be in statistics.

We didn't play like a top offense when we needed to. We had to be last in the league in separation and our qb threw far too many picks. Factor that in Hasselbeck.

Oh, and the run game was crap after TP.

Points win games for sure but this whole "Total points scored" or when they average them into games played is not the end all measure of an offense. The effeciency rating to me is a far better measure for it as it cant be skewed as much from blowouts.
