There is fresh and farm raised. I stay away from the farm raised, same for farm raised Salmon. Actually prefer snapper or red snapper or Salmon, which Talapia is a form of snapper, so I was told many years ago when living in Florida.
Tilapia and snapper are not related. Red snapper is one of the most delicious fish out there.

Tilapia is a fresh water invasive fish native to Africa, while red snapper is a salt water ray-finned fish native to Florida waters and the Gulf of Mexico.

Trying a healthy kick this season. Brown and red rice with lentils or beans, and a glass of water.

I suspect I will be in a foul mood before kickoff.

Just going by what I was told when I lived down there. I had no reason to ever question that.
I have not fished, nor care about knowing about it since I was around 18.

We always had Red Snapper, but when they were out one time, we got the tilapia.
Buy Snapper from a Really nice place in DFW now whenever we can. Fresh Tilapia is the fall back plan.

Fried liver and peanut butter sammy with a side of sliced onions in vinegar.
I have never ever heard of this before. Is this a family or regional thing?

I know the sliced onions in vinegar as it is very popular among people from Eastern Europe, especially the Ukraine.

Fried liver and peanut butter is new to me.

ITs well known for people in 3rd world countries that raise it , to defecate in the hatcheries to save on feeding costs. It’s known as the hot dogs of the fish world. Lips, butts and poop.
In the mid 90's the company I worked for experimented with treating human waste in an aquaculture system. Tilapia were featured prominently.

The system actually worked on a small scale.

Hey since we are all talking about gameday food, but primarily food.

What is happening in your neck of the woods in terms of the costs of your grocery bills?

Up here in Canada we are seeing about a 20% increase on an average household's monthly grocery bill and the price of meat (Beef, chicken and pork) has at least double in price per pound and in some cases even tripled.

What's happening where you live?

What happened with results of additional by-products in human waste like medications we consume? Did those things ever transfer to the fish?

I know there are warnings not to eat farm grown Tilapia from China due to the unsanitary methods being used there.

It's a Navajo (Diné or Naabeehó) food that I grew up with.
