As i have been saying since they traded for Lance, they already made the decision not to extend him. The fact they didn't do it this offseason, where it appears they didn't even try, should say it all.

They basically are putting it all on Dak to earn that contract and he has failed miserably so far.
Agree.

They already know Dak is in decline.

Dak '23 vs Rush '22 thru 5 games

YPG: 210.4 vs 191.2

QBR: 64.6 vs 56.2

Thats a 40mil difference there

Also oddly enough Hurts QBR is 57.9 so far

Agree, but that's also where a viable replacement comes into the equation as well. That's been the Dak issue from the start....He's not an elite QB, but he is better than roughly half the starters in the NFL. Given his cap hit even if you move on from the guy makes it incredibly difficult to find a replacement-level player via free agency and they will likely not draft high enough to get an elite talent from the draft.
Is he though? Put him on a garbage team, what happens? What happens when you put him on the Giants with no OL?

They are limited the offense to minimize his mistakes.

Dak never should have gotten the contract he has now. Dak was never worth $40 million. Remember, in 2019 the Cowboys faced the Eagles for the division lead, and probably the division championship. Dak had an awful game throwing inaccurate passes missing open receivers. The Cowboys scored only 9 points and lost to the Eagles 17-9. The Eagles QB was Carson Wentz. To me, that game was a sign to Jerry, do not pay Dak a big contract. And back then we thought $35 million was a big contract. After Dak got hurt in 2020 missing 11 games or so, Jerry gave Dak $40 million, a no trade clause and a no franchise tag clause when he current contract expires. And, he allowed Dak to make the contract a 4 year deal basically screwing the Cowboys CAP situation.

When Dak is negotiating his new contract we all know he is going to want even more money. But Jerry has no choice but to sign him or let him go via free agency, but he cannot get any compensation for him, other than a 3rd round comp pick. Now, after this game, which is another reminder that Dak is not the guy to win big games, Jerry is behind the 8 ball, but he put himself there.
I agree with you but if you didn't give Dak the extension, you are essentially letting him walk. Who would you have brought in to replace him in the offseason of 2021?

I don't disagree, but I think there are only a few QBs in the league that will be able to pick up and carry a lackluster team. My position on Dak is basically that hes a good not great QB, but I've never been a fan of paying record setting money to him. The reason being is he can't be that Mahomes type of player who can lose a Tyreek Hill and still make a superbowl. You take a Goff, Cousins, etc type of player and switch them with Dak and I'm not sure either team is really better or worse off. These are all players that tend to play somewhat to the talent level around them, and that goes for the majority of QBs in the league. I think you move on if you can (assuming things dont improve as the year goes on), but you can't just plug in a Cooper Rush and expect this thing to get better.

Let Dak walk after the season. Start Lance next year, if the bottom falls out then you are in a perfect position to draft a top QB. It is definitely time to roll the dice and take that risk. FYI…Kurt Cousins is better than Dak.

Lol why would anyone have any hope that Jerry won’t sign him

Jerry is 1000000% going to resign Dak
Jerry sells hope. If Dak keeps playing like he has then there is no hope. Only the real delusional person can possibly believe in Dak anymore.

100%

Were on year 8 and more than 100 games (plus postseason games).

We know who Dak is.

There is no next level for him. This is who he is.

Dak is squarely somewhere between Kirk Cousins and Derek Carr tier QB, which is actually a bad place for a franchise. They are just good enough that you invest resources, time, and effort into building the franchise around them. The Raiders only just realized Carr wasn’t the guy that was going to lead them to the promise land.
NFL purgatory.

Not sure if this will be permanent, but I just switched from years on the fence to a non believer.

I feel like the entire Cowboys fandom is having a Saul on the road to Demascus moment...the scales are falling from their collective eyes!!!

I don't know but I would have prepared for that possibility by drafting another QB. The question could be asked now too. If they don't give Dak $60 million what do they do at QB? The Eagles didn't just give up on Wentz, they traded him for draft picks that allowed them to build the team they have now. The Cowboys can stick with Dak and suffer the same results every year until his career is over, or they can cut the cord and begin the task of rebuilding that position.

I am not saying QB is the only problem in Dallas but it is a big problem and paying Dak more money does not make the problem go away. He doesn't get better because he is getting paid more money. If we want to settle for second best and never winning a trophy again, then stay with the guys they have.

This team was demoralized last night. The $40 million QB should have picked them up. Instead he let them down.
