Meh. The Chiefs, Patriots and Packers employed nobodies at WR and Mahomes, Brady and Rodgers still somehow avoided these types of INTs.

Gallup may be a scrub (he's certainly not what he once was), but Dak still needs to be better there. Both things can be true. At no point did it look like Gallup was winning this route.

Either look elsewhere or throw it away if you don't have time. Like others pointed out, CeeDee was open.

They blitzed from both sides of the field lol
Ummmm .... They had 3 down linemen on the offensive right side, with a LB standing up on the interior offensive left side, a down lineman at split out wide on the left as a DE, and a Linebacker (#57) standing up right next to the down lineman.

Ball snapped, the LB standing up in the left-middle drops back into coverage, the standing LB on the outside left stunts inside, and all down linemen rush as normal. So just 5 guys rushed, with only one of those guys rushing from a standing position.

How is that blitzing from both sides of the field exactly?

Maybe blitzing has a new meaning in 2023 and I'm just too old and slow to keep up.

I'm not sure if you are looking at the same video. First, there are 6 guys rushing. Not 5. And Dak looks at the safety first before turning his head due to Niners #57 blitzing before throwing it to his hot route.
Don’t think I’m looking at same video bc Daks head only only goes left never right, never straight, only left

They blitzed 6 the SS comes up on the bunch and the LB drops of a fake blitz into CD's slant zone...Dak sees the LB drop and goes to MG which is the other hot slant...the TE was covered by the SS dropping down and only looks wide open after Dak threw the ball and the SS was chasing the play...he threw the right route...MG just got beat plain and simple. That is on MG, there are plenty of missed open WR Dak missed in the game that he needs to take heat for.

There are 5 guys rushing the QB. So not an all out blitz. So I'm not buy what Sturm is saying at all.

Re-watch the play. The QB stared down Gallup. Because of that, Gallup is the most closely guarded WR on the field!

What he should have done is throw the ball to one of the wide open WR's just waiting for the ball.
I count 6. The guy you're not counting is getting double by Tyler Smith and Biadasz. That was the hot read. Dak had an untouched Bosa coming full steam at him. That was the right throw. Gallup wasn't physical enough on that play.

Gallup is terrible. should have never been extended.
it sure looks bad right now, but then we all thought you would see CD in motion all over the place this year.. on that exact play if CD comes across the formation you've probably got a TD with a wheel concept because no way that LB who drops gets to CD...

Buddy. It was a 6-man blitz. The slot CB on the right side of the offense blitzed lmao.

I mean come on

yeah it’s bad. people who attended training camp say they saw the cowboys work the middle of the field. the motion, the rpo, deep pass… we are seeing nothing but 4 yard routes and cedee was not moved around at all vs SF. kinda like we kept micah vs trent the whole game! make that make sense

Looked to me like Gallup was being held.

Another part of this that went wrong was Zack Martin misread the stunt and was too slow to correct his mistake, else Dak wouldn't have had to rush the throw. Nice job overpaying him for no reason, Jerry.

Sturm needs to teach Kurt Warner how to put together a video analysis without using his phone laying on the desk.
It's a grey area, but anything around 5 yds the ref is going to swallow the whistle unless it's egregious. The WR has to either be extremely physical here or quickly create separation at the LOS, neither of which Gallup is good at doing. You put him in this situation 10 times, he's going to lose 8 of those reps.

When I saw this play live, I thought it was very close to DPI. Yes, both players have a right to the ball but neither play can go through the other to get it. The was a lot of contact on this play and some of it beyond 5 yards. It was a close call.

But sometimes you just have to credit the defender with making a good play on the receiver. Maybe Gallup could have flattened his route a touch more to prevent the defender from cutting him off but his route wasn't that bad. Just a good play by the defender.

I would note that SF plays very solid inside 10 yards. They way to attack them is down the field. Maybe if Gallup faked the fade and turned upfield at full speed Dak could have thrown the fade but those 5 yard passes did not do the Cowboys much good all night.

And again, the OL, the starting 5, collapsed on Dak forcing the throw.

I watched SF against the Giants and Rams and I have to be honest, the did not play as well against those teams as they did against Dallas. It would not shock me if the Eagles take the 49ers down because they will run up the middle and take deep shots.
