Dallas defense is extremely overrated. We regularly get exposed. If we played either of those teams last night, it wouldve been a 30+ point blowout.

Wasn’t the Cowboys defense #5 this year. And how many All Pro’s did we have. Just saying.

Yes, we have weaknesses. But give me Mahomes and we don’t need as much help as we do without him.

He does matter. And if not for this comment I wouldn’t have needed to respond at all.
I don't care what our defensive ranking was. We can not stop the run nor run against good teams.

Any good team who committed to running had their way.

The numbers get thrown out of context because alot of our opponents got caught chasing points, or weren't that good in the first place.

If we went by stats, and rankings, we'd have won the whole thing.

There is a reason we are paper champions only. It's very misleading as to how good we actually are.

To be clear I think there's a lot of positive to build on, but we are definitely missing some pieces.

Did you see the LB play on both teams last night? Shedding blocks, filling run lanes, making tough physical tackles.

Can’t tell me LB’s don’t matter.

While watching that great SB game last night played by two excellent teams, there were some clear messages sent about how to build a Super Bowl roster. If only the Cowboys front office could ever de-code them we would have a better chance to play in a SB again.

Here are some of those roster building messages:
  • Just having a great QB without some dominating players in the defensive trenches is not enough. This is a fundamental truth the Jones boys never seem to understand. Yes having a Pat Mahomes is HUGE. But without that great DL the chiefs don’t win that SB. Below are some great, even dominating QBs that underperformed in the playoffs because they did not have a great D.
    • Aaron Rodgers- won only one SB because he didn’t have enough help on defense. That simple.
    • Peyton Manning- an all time great that won 2 SBs, but lost a bunch of AFC championships and a SB because until he was with the broncos, he didn't have a great D.
    • Dan Marino- arguably the greatest passer in NFL history but never won a SB because he never had a great D.
    • Joe Burrow- he’s great. But if the bengals don’t get a better D around him, he’s another Marino.
    • Putting this point another way, if the Cowboys had Mahomes vs the pack in January, we only lose 48-45, lol.

  • Toughness matters a ton. Both the niners and chiefs are physically tough as nails. The niners are the most physical team in the NFL. Their defense punishes opponents. The chiefs are also physically tough. Their defense was vastly underrated this year. The mental toughness of the chiefs to stay in the game despite their offense being sluggish is testament to their mental toughness.

  • Having a defense capable of keeping you in the game until the offense comes alive. The chiefs D kept them in the game when their offense was terrible the first half. How many times did we see Dallas‘ defense crumble while the offense was struggling.
So what are the implications for the Cowboys?
  1. Get better in the front 7 on defense. We need some major help at DL, LB. Secondary is ok. (Everyone screams for a new QB but unfortunately that ain‘t happening now and even if it was, we don’t have enough defensive support for any QB)
  2. Get better at OL and RB. We desperately need a running game.
  3. Stop wasting second round picks on medical or mental rehabs because the GM wants to look smart. Draft guys that can play NOW.
As I watched that SB last night, it was crystal clear that the Cowboys aren’t nearly as close as we fans want to believe. The most important upgrade these team needs right now is some dominating beasts at DT and LB and an improved running game. There will be no cavalry rescue of this team at QB next year. So better get a better D and running game or even if we had Mahomes he couldn’t save this team.
Bullet, well done. DAL is so far removed from the SB, they'd be lucky to get 10 wins next year.

It actually was enough. That game could've gone either way.
Yes, but one player tilted the outcome.

He’s like the Michael Jordon. Who needs a supporting cast but tips the balance often taking the game in his own hands not being denied.

Who’s minimizing it?
When you stated the Qb wouldn’t have mattered I’d describe that as minimizing. I’d agree with everything else in your OP and overall thought.

I don’t have that mindset. I would be glad to part ways with Dak. I’m tired of watching him. But if we don’t fix the trenches here it won’t matter who’s playing QB.

Andy Reid must have been kicking himself when he started realizing how good Mahomes was going to be. Going from McNabb to Mahomes probably the Cowboys equivalent of going from Dak to Staubach.

Yea, great Generational talent can tip the balance.

Cowboys had a SB caliber team with Morton but Staubach tipped the balance.

Given everything else is the same a greater QB does matter. We can’t discount or minimize its importance .

SF, Balt and Buffalo had great enough teams and good enough QB’s to win a championship.

But Mahomes is the X-factor. He tips the balance.

I seriously doubt we can build a better team than SF or Balt and prob Buffalo. And Balt and Buffalo definitely have greater QB’s.

So if we can’t build better teams than the top teams in NFL and don’t have as good or greater QB how do we expect to overcome?

This is prob about as good as it gets with our organization and QB.

You have to take the game out of Mahomes hand.

With new OT playoff rules I would have deferred. Then you’d know what you’d need after KC possession.

They could have forced the issue going for TD on first possession. If missed then still relied on defense to make stop .

Mahomes rises more to the occasion when he has to. If KC didn’t need a score on their possession I’d of liked SF chances of getting the ball again. Then once both teams have possessed the ball you can win on a FG.

You have to think outside the norm when facing a freak athlete and best closer in the game like Mahomes. Maybe Dumb Dan with Detroit could have outmaneuvered him with his over aggressive analytics which cost them against us and SF. Lol

Watching this team play all year we knew about our deficiencies. Watching the 2 teams play last night further drove home the point that not only are we miles away from being there, ownership is in no rush to help further the process. That is the most depressing thing about being a Cowboys fan

Maybe some will now understand why so many of us were so POed when we took a TE in the 2nd.

Peyton never played that well in the SB
Mahones is something else
BUT remember that SB vs TB and Brady when Mahomes was on the run the whole game? He was not able to do much no matter how great he is
You need more than a great QB to win it all; look at Rodgers with only one ring. Brees was pretty great as well; one ring. Dan Marino got none; Jim Kelly got none.
I know what you’re saying, but what I’m saying is none of those guys were as good as he is. He is probably better than TB ever was. If he becomes as smart as TB was, he’d win 7 more

Last night, there were two organizations that have built Championship Cultures. Football knowledgeable GMs who built Championship rosters. Each team demonstrated a Championship mentality and mindset. Sadly, Jerry and his crew have no clue on how to transform this current culture.

The roster building messages were crystal clear. A roster is not just 52 individuals who wear the same uniform.

ok had to start a new post as I cant get past the smiles!

Bob if you added up all the points you have posted so far (recently) about what cowboys need, it would be overwhelming amount of things that
need fixing lol.
Too much for anyone sensible to say they are close.

For me just watching the SB tells me dallas cannot compete with either of those teams !
But jerry is going all in !! He is such a clown.

I think he believes his own lies.
