How Do the Eagles Have This Much Cap Space?

Their culture was absolutely horrible last season. The GM has been know to curse out the coaches after wins if they run too much. The agendas in Philly are not at all a stable culture. They have a beat reporter who did an entire podcast series on how screwed up they were when they had a 10-1 record.
Hmm, makes you wonder why Barkley, Huff, and CJGJ would all go there if the culture was so bad. Sweat resigned and CJ returned after a year in Detroit. All three could have signed elsewhere. All are top tier players. My guess is that these stories are not always true.
You do make a good point about toxic teams and ownership. Look at all the players we lost.

It’s the GM’s job to make personnel moves to make the team competitive and maintaining that competitive edge year-after year. When the GM is held responsible to ownership for the team’s results it probably sharpens the GM’s focus and resolve: making the GM accountable for his actions.
But…when the GM is also the owner and his son is the EVP…well…we see their ineptness in managing the salary cap; Dallas seems to be the only team constrained by the cap when it comes to making personnel decisions; and of course the glaring lack of accountability in overall operations.
If one is running a football team then the goal is to get to the Super Bowl every year; if one is running the family business then a 12-win season is very palatable.

The Eagles have one player hitting the CAP over $20 million and that is Haason Reddick at about $21 million.

The Cowboys have Dak at nearly $60 million. That almost a $40 million difference which is why the Eagles are $34 million under the CAP this year.

Take a look at how much dead money Philly has pushed towards the future of that contract. $86.5m is showing as owed after the contract expires in 2027. I imagine that number will continue to rise as the Eagles restructure to free up money over the next couple of years.

Dak is owed $36.5m next season and $11m the following year. Philly is married to Hurts for the foreseeable future, and he looked pretty bad the second half of last season. Dallas can get out from under Dak next season if they choose to, with minimal lasting damage.
yeah, i’m not sure if you are just clarifying my position or thought i was saying something different. this is what i was alluding to

Don't you dudes know by now that Jerry and Stephen only shop for free agents at the Dollar Store and Walmart. They love their guys and spend their money resigning them. Jerry makes more quan than any other team owner and folks, the NFL is his family business.

Every team can do it and many do. Dallas being inactive and blaming it on having to watch the cap is a choice.

I was getting ready to say that. It would not surprise me if Dallas loses one of either Lamb, Parsons, or Dak.
I would have
The current cap responsibility attributed to Dak’s contract, which is four years at $40 million AAV, is by design. It did not have to be this way. Jerry Jones put his franchise in this situation by “borrowing cap space” from Dak’s $40 million per contract. The bill has come due. The issue is not Dak, Micah, or CeeDee. Lots of teams have a number of expensive players and are active considering (at least calling about) and signing free agents to plug holes they know they can’t fill with draft picks. Not only the Eagles. Last year at this time Philly carried $53 million in dead cap. It cost them Edmonds, Sanders, and Hargrave. If you consider that “better”, OK. Philly’s front office is no smarter than any other team’s. Every team has the same max they can spend on player salaries, and the same minimum per the CBA. Philly has whittled their dead cap down to $7 million. They have more wiggle room right now. That’s all.
49ers seem to know what they are doing as well.

Irrelevant. We were talking about culture. It's a nice buzz word and all but what does it actually mean? Philly is successful despite it. What's our excuse?
hardly irrelevant when some player are taking less $ than market to go there. Philly has been to the SB multiple times since opur last, they have rebuilt at least 3 times within 2-3 year periods, they acknowledge mistakes and rectify (Wentz, etc). Its. a winning culture, and not a esoteric pablum, but tangible

The cowboys could make all of the signings the eagles are making….. if they wanted to.

The cowboys cap is the way it is because that’s what Jerry and Stephen want.

Don’t let them off the hook. It’s not “magic”. It’s not the eagles “cheating”. It’s not even Dak.

The cowboys FO is the least aggressive FO in the league.

They don’t have to be aggressive and they don’t have to go for it because they have 100% job security.

The truth will be revealed when the next Cowboys rookie QB comes along. If we don't see the front office be more aggressive or at least take advantage of the next rookie contract to be more active in free agency than what they usually are, then that will be the sign of how the lack of aggression in free agency is on Jerry and Stephen and not the players. They are the type who will be inactive and do nothing for the next rookie QB, then if they decide to pay him try and gaslight fans that his contract is the reason for why they can't do anything in free agency.

I just read that Josh Sweat has restructured his contract despite higher offers from other teams? Something isn't right. We can't afford players and Howie signs whoever he wants?

They have REAL football experts running their organization...............

Howie sucks at the cap. All he does is restructure everyone to the max and kick every penny into the future. Look at their contracts. Everyone has like a $1M base and a ton of dead money in void years after the contract is up.thats not skill or brains. He is a gambler. But he is also heartless and signs players with his head and not his heart and is the best trader in the league

Because they actually care about winning. Teams that care about winning manipulate the cap to always be able to improve the team. Stephen loves the dead money so they don't have to spend cash, and he can blame the cap for his incompetence. When its really just greed.

That's insane. And they probably have plenty of room to add Simmons and whatever holes they have after the draft . . .
They have almost 40M in cap space. They can add whoever they want.

The Cowboys create cap as needed. They pay more of their bill now as opposed to later. They could open up a boatload of cap space if they wanted to. But with their standard operating procedure, there's no need to.

Eagles probably wouldn’t have done the following extensions: Zek, Gallop, Jaylon Smith, Dez, Steele, La’el Collins. For some reason Cowboys love paying big money to players coming off injuries and it has burned them over and over. It’s not that the Eagles have more cap dollars. It’s the Cowboys pay the wrong players at the wrong time for way too much money.
