Um...no...Dak is NOT better than Romo.
Here's where you give the stats, right? Knock yourself out.
I defended Romo from haters his entire career.
So we can start there. YET.....
Dak is just now entering his prime and has a better win %, higher completion %, more passing yards per game, more TD passing per game. Less INT per game, higher passer rating. Insanely more effective as a runner.
He has been wildly more productive in the playoffs where Romo was just plain ineffective accounting for only 8 total TDs in 6 games(Dak has 18 TDs in 7 games).
Romo was robbed of about 3-5 prime years by a bad back.
It isn't his fault; but it very much stunted his apex.
And he was much rawer than Dak when he entered the league having done so from a small school.
He is also just physically smaller and slower. Though he had elite pocket escapism.
Had Patrick Crayton caught a pass that hit his hands we might be having a very different conversation but that is the fickle nature of the NFL.
The biggest play of his career died on an undrafted WR's hands.
The 2nd biggest died with an awful call where Dez took 5 steps and made 3 football moves but was called incomplete.
And yes we were so bad at QB before Romo that he was like manna from heaven.
Thats why I caution fans now.
It is not easy to get to this level of QB.
It takes luck OR continued tanking with elite evaluation.
Of the last 5 QBs selected 1 overall only 1 is clearly better than Dak.
I do not want to sink 60M of cap space into Dak any more than others, but I also am realistic about the alternatives.
