How Do the Eagles Have This Much Cap Space?

Them and the Niners brain trust makes Jethro seem like he flunked out of the 5th grade.
And an added embarrassment is that ours is the only FO that hits the yacht as soon as FA hits. While other teams are hard at work, Jerry is passed out somewhere and Cap Boy is clipping coupons.

They've been in two SBs in the last 6 years, winning one. And they went back to the SB a few years AFTER tearing down the SB winning team and basically churning a huge chunk of the roster (including somehow getting out from under a massive QB contract).

We haven't sniffed a conference title game in 28 years.

Any fan who tries to argue we do it as well as Philly or even better than Philly is a homer, plain and simple. No rational person can look at the results and think, "Gee, Jerry does it better..........."

If you look at their roster and numbers, you see almost all their vets have salaries of 1.2 mil. Go down their list, Hurts, Brown, Johnson, Goedert Sweat, etc. All those deals were reworked to free up max space. We have only done that with Zach so far.
Between reworking deals to squeeze as much space as possible, and signing CeeDee long term and releasing Gallup, we could get to about 60-70 Mil in space if we did every deal. The Eagles have just gone all in, reworked every deal. We have not. There is a price to pay down the road, but this is the game the NFL off season has become.
That is actually a very good model to use if you believe the salary cap will continue to increase year after year.

The problem you run into is if the cap ever gets stagnant or declines a couple of seasons in a row, but outside of something like Covid happening again, the chances of league revenue declining is not very high.

Besides, if you can squeeze a couple of SBs out of this model before having to blow your roster up, isn't that worth it?

I mean, the results speak for themselves, Cowboys have not sniffed an NFCCG or SB in 28 years and Philly has been to 2 SBs (winning one) in the past 6 seasons. Either their model is vastly superior to our model, or they hire front office executives that are way smarter and more intelligent than Jerry and Cap Boy. Has to be one or the other, it is not just luck folks.

Yep we could never accuses Philly of liking their own.

Cant accuse them of being QB obsessed, they always seem trenches first and build around them, rather than stars first and 'hope' the foundations hold out.

They are ALL-IN this year, but have players on contracts that could be traded for reusable draft capital if 2024 is a failure (eg Barkley, Johnson, Mailata, Hurts, Goedart).

GM Jeruh has 16 wins and 15 losses all time in the playoffs in 33 years. So let's continue to keep blaming Dak, Romo and or the next poor ******* that comes along.

That is after him starting 11-2 with our SB runs in the 90's. So he is 5-13 since our last SB.

16 playoff wins in 33 years.

5 playoff wins in the last 26 years.

Is it becoming clear what the problem is yet?

Don't we all wish we had that type of job security?
You're right that we need a GM, with job repercussions if they fail, rather than run the franchise as a popularity 'star name' led. However, I would say that the position we're in (possibly during the season) is ideal to employ said GM.... as we're in a crossroad moment as to: CAP (which without extensions is pretty much reset for 2025), decisions on extensions and overall direction of the franchise.
No point in handing the job to a GM, where the decisions are already made.....but the forthcoming months would be ideal.

Everyone here watched the Green Bay game. There is absolutely no logic behind sacrificing our future to help win today with this core group of players. That would be madness. They showed us what they had to offer last year (as well as previous years). Why would you spend your future cap dollars to "win now" with a group who cares nothing about winning.

Yep, strip down the roster to the basics and employ a GM to mould what's left.

The Eagles lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs a couple of years ago. They learned the hard way they are not the standard and either are the Dallas Cowboys. If you’re not at least trying to build a team that can compete with the 49ers, Chiefs, Ravens, you’re not likely to win a Super Bowl in the next few seasons. Winning the NFC East last season gave the Cowboys a home playoff game. They lost. The Eagles had to go on the road to lose their playoff game. Both teams have work to do to get to the Super Bowl.
Say you almost had a point until you brought the Ravens into this the Ravens haven't done squat, I believe Lamar only has two playoff wins as well,

ohh well they finally got to a championship game but you're using them as a barometer???

Look man I'm just gonna tell you like it is if you're gonna post about a rival a big time bitter rival give them their flowers all over our Dallas Cowboys forum this is what you're gonna get what does that say in the title somebody's praising the Eagles therefore I'm allowed to say the Eagles have lost their division to us twice even with their aggressive style they literally are having problems beating what people around here say is a circus and that we have clueless delusional GM that doesn't know what he's doing how is that equate to 36 wins two division titles three straight playoff appearances and five appearances in the playoffs in the last eight seasons with a healthy quarterback??? Everyone around here says that Jerry's the worst GM in the history of football the way they talk they act like he's a clown that doesn't know anything how is it that he competes with Howie Roseman and the Eagles how is it that the Dallas Cowboys so ridiculously torn apart in their own forums in their own fan base that gives flowers to other bitter rivals and yet doesn't see apocryphally and the fact that the reality is how is Jerry keeping up with the Eagles being so clumsy and clueless kinda crazy huh he hires the yes men bad coaches apparently he overpays his overrated quarterback he doesn't know how to put talent on the team and yet somehow he competes with this Eagles team I'm sitting there have to talk about because you all put it on the damn front page so that's my answer to the original poster there's a lot of cap space but they don't do a whole lot with it it is all paper because they did not even beat the Cowboys 2 out of the last three years for the division...

When you understand why I'm posting these rambles and aggressive replies you understand let it hit you let it sink in that Howie Roseman and the Eagles are being slobbered over by our fans and yet they have not beat this bobble head of a front office that does everything on a budget and still beats the Eagles who overpays and over aggressively goes after stuff just because they lost a Super Bowl and they only still have one in the history of their entire franchise and yeah I have to sit here and talk about it so you're gonna get my replies just exactly as they are intended...

The Ravens situation is similar to our's, in that the way to beat both is to take away the run and make the QB beat you with.

As evidenced by the assertions and complaints about being paid at the top of the market.

Honestly, Micah complained because he got 19.6 mil instead of 20.3 What a child.

I'm specifically talking about how Jerry and Stephen's method in building the Cowboys roster and how they have ran this team has failed when it comes to the goal of winning a Super Bowl. The Eagles are another subject as their front office has been more successful at building rosters who are able to make deeper playoff runs than what Dallas has been able to make. Yet still if the subject is about what methods has resulted in actual Super Bowl wins, then Howie and the Eagles front office has managed only to build one actual Super Bowl winning roster. Despite all of the years and money they have put into free agency.

They look more successful when compared to the Cowboys(If one were to count NFC Champion wins as part of what defines a successful franchise). Yet also can be considered less than a franchise like the Chiefs who is able to maximize the Conference Championship games and Super Bowl appearances they make by winning multiple Super Bowl within a short NFL time period. And mainly because of Mahomes and Reid.

But as far as the competition between the two teams goes when it comes to matching up against each other, as I said this forum and Cowboys fans do tend to make predictions about how the Eagles are going to widen the gap and start dominating the series like we see the Eagles dominating the Giants for example. But so far that hasn't come to fruition and neither has the predictions about how the Eagles easily are going to start taking over the division due to the moves they keep making in FA come to fruition. Several times some have made it seem like the Eagles would start rack up division title wins in a similar manner to how we saw the Patriots dominate the AFC East during the Brady era. Yet so far this has not happened as the Cowboys and Eagles have traded division titles back and forth every year over the last few seasons. While it has been a while since the Eagles last swept the Cowboys. And this is with predictions (Starting with the Eagles drafting Wentz) of how they would be dominating the division for a decade or more because of the moves their front office has made in free agency and the draft.
Exactly, I don't agree with all of it but that's my sentiment as well I'm tired of fans talking about the Eagles you know they are bitter rivals right we hate them yeah every time I come on here we got to talk about the Eagles on our front page for no reason who cares if they have cap space and how they use it if they are not consistently beating us they just had an historic meltdown last year and lost the division to us no matter all those moves this place seem to drool over I'm tired of talking about the Eagles who we need to get by is the 49ers wait even them they have yet to win a Super Bowl since 1994 and the Eagles only have one in total I mean I get it the goal is the Super bowl and I would settle for an NFC championship game appearance I get we're falling short but the point of this is we're having this conversation about the Eagles because our own fans keep posting about the Eagles so I'm gonna aggressively be replying like this angrily run on Rambles!!..

My last point is as much as people wanna rip our team apart and how the front office does business they are putting together good rosters without being the all in mentality which is very seldom used by the way I mean it worked for the Rams but it did not work for the Eagles getting to the Super bowl is not the goal I mean it would be nice for us to get there but they did all that and they didn't win neither did the 49ers after going out and overpaying for Christian McCaffrey having one of the best rosters on the planet both teams have lost to a team that does the least in free agency the Kansas City Chiefs are not aggressive in free agency they literally are going with a lot of running backs by committee wide receivers by committee they're smart in drafting they bring in some good undrafted free agents they make a few trades but show me how they're at the top of the list the actual Super Bowl winners yes they have a better head coach and slightly better quarterback but they still are conducting business normally very similar to what the Cowboys are doing they just are doing it better but they are not doing the all in thing they are winning Super Bowls by also not being aggressive in high risk...

Very few teams do that the way Jerry does it is the way most teams build their rosters,

yes I would love for them too once in a while do something really high risk and bring in a big name free agent even though it's not a guarantee there is no blueprint that is not the only way to build a roster... the way they do business is very similar than most of the NFL and how do I know this there are top 6 team the last three years they finished better than 24/26 other teams when it comes to records and consistently getting to the playoffs,

somehow they must be doing it by dumb luck and accidents because everyone around here says they're terrible that they have the worst of everything that they do business they're the worst of everything historically bad all seasons and somehow we keep making the playoffs...

The silliness of this argument is epic but expected from Cowboys homers who are struggling with the reality of our franchise right now.

What the Eagles did 60 years ago doesn't matter now. Howie Roseman wasn't even born then. Jeffrey Lurie was a teenager 50-60 years ago. In the same vein, our 3 SBs in the 90s don't really matter much at this point because they were not built by Jerry. Johnson built those teams. Once the divorce between the two and Jerry seized power as sole GM, the Cowboys have gone on a 28 year run where they have only like 5 playoffs wins and zero NFCCG appearances.

After Roseman seized power again as GM post-Chip Kelly, they have simply been the better franchise. It's really not even debatable if one is just honest and frank about it.

Lots of bandaids. Which is what we need. They got deeper and better at DE and also gave themselves flexibility to trade Reddick for draft picks. They upgraded S. They signed depth at OL.

We’ve done nothing but sign an older LB. That’s it.

One team is trying to get better. One is trying to save money.
More like they've spent all their money and now can only shop at dollar general!!!

Well yeah, that's a pretty good barometer of success. Not praising the team for winning a bunch of regular season games that you always love to do.

That being said, the Ravens aren't the standard either. As someone pointed out, they have a similar flaw in that teams, in those playoff situations will defend them to make the QB beat them with his arm. But unlike us, they at least try to improve their roster with real FAs (they are already a solid drafting team). We do not as we routinely sit out FA, at least the early and middle waves were quality players reside. We wait for the scraps and cuts. It's worked beautifully for us, LOL.

I just read that Josh Sweat has restructured his contract despite higher offers from other teams? Something isn't right. We can't afford players and Howie signs whoever he wants?

Having an aggressive, professional GM
That's held accountable for his results makes a positive difference.

"We cant sign FA's because we pay our QB..Dont look at the man behind the curtain!!!!!" yeah its amazing other teams pay a QB AND sign FA's..stephen does love the fans that swallow the "You paid your QB now you have to be cheap"....at this point some fans touting Dak's contract are literally backing Stephen Jones...are we going to have a new band named "Stephen Lovers" DO NOT LET THIS FO OF THE HOOK they dont sign FA's because they dont want to..check the facts...
Well, here's a fact. DAK insisted on a cap strapping deal. Hurts did not.

McCarthy and Sirianni did not have their teams ready for their respective playoff opponents, got clobbered, and both kept their jobs. I think Cowboys fans and Eagles fans should be prepared to get kicked “in the nuts again”, free agent signings notwithstanding.
That may be true but I I I'm not getting I'm bored with that that's a week to week league and it's a year to year league and we're gonna see how it plays out on the field that's why we watch guessing trying to be nostradamus using crazy words like historic bad offseasons it's not at this point in free agency rosters are not set they're not built and your future is not set in stone by what you do the first week of free agency.

So all this talk about free agency gets old the NFL is about building a roster by any means and using every outlet to do so meaning we have free agency more than the first week there's still 100 players out there that are really good that you could put on your roster to fill holes and still put a competitive team on the field then you can make trades then you have the draft and then there are more players will be cut and traded because of the way the draft unfolded and then you have roster cut downs and then you have the trade deadline there are a lot of avenues to grab players to build a roster that's competitive and yeah it might even get you to a Super Bowl or it might not but the first week of free agency does not set the tone or guarantee anything for those teams who are more aggressive we've seen it before dream teams paper champions the people that got the biggest names do not always end up in a Super Bowl it's very rare actually...

The team that has done the least and one Super Bowls are the Kansas City Chiefs show me the last three or four years what their free agency looked like show me all the big name free agents that they sign show me how they have the top guy at every position because I can tell you they don't they had a seventh round running back now that has two rings they did not go out and get Derrick Henry or Jacobs or anybody like that they rebuilt their offensive line mostly through the draft they made small trades they brought in undrafted free agencies but from what I saw they had a running back by committee and a wide receiver by committee and smart moves and yes they have one of the best coaches in the past quarterback so they can get by doing that but they were not the most aggressive team as a matter of fact they keep beating the most aggressive team they beat back-to-back the two teams who were the most aggressive in free agency and throughout the trade deadline in the Eagles and the 49ers lost to a team who made the least amount of headway in the offseason as far as roster building they did not go for the biggest names matter of fact I got rid of hill and other players the only one they seemed to hold on to and they almost lost him last year was Jones.. But that's keeping their guys the doubt the Dallas Cowboys do that I'm just telling you the whole aggressive first week of free agency everyone acts like it's over and that those teams are the ones that are guaranteed the final four slots and that is farther from the truth than I can ever imagine...
I mean I get why fans are impatient and they want another championship game at the very least and then another Super Bowl appearance...

that is the goal but please stop with the nonsense about how the first week of free agency somehow sets the tone and dictates what happens in February, because it does not...

I would love Jerry to make a high risk move here and there I would love him to be a little more aggressive but he sees it the way most teams see it they don't all go for broke and do the all in thing regardless of what he said, I don't really care what he says or does, what he has done is put a team on the field three straight years that apparently did nothing in the offseason and has some of the worst coaching and overrated quarterbacks and managed to get 36 wins two division titles and three straight playoff appearances..
somehow by accident get in the way fans talk about the front office...hmmm note the sarcasm it's not accidental there is more to Jerry and Steven in that front office there's a lot of really responsible very experienced people that starts with will mcclay and everybody that all help building rosters by every Ave. possible it doesn't have to be the first week of free agency...
