He doesn’t know what the hell is going on.

But he loves him some Dak in garbage time.
If dak and jerry turned up at his house and then vomited on his new rug and kicked his dog he'd sit them down, pour em a good scotch and thank them for popping by.

It makes zero sense to extend him now other than for cap room.

If he plays well this year and goes on a nfc title game/super bowl run…. Then you can pay him.

Even if he is the regular season mvp…. Another post season poor performance you think teams are gonna pony up a lot of cash for him. I doubt it.

But let him prove he can win something before you extend him. He’s a great person but I don’t feel bad for a guy that’s made the money he’s made in his career. He’ll survive not playing without an extension
Problem with this is...if he wins it all...he is still the same Dak.

You either think he is good or you dont.

One year of winning shouldnt dictate a large salary or your job or make anyone think he has overcome some playoff yips.

The guy deserves to be a high paid QB regardless of playoff outcome in a team sport.

I dont like the market...but Dak deserves to be paid reasonably good.

The superstition stuff is out of hand around here. Playoff Yips is stupid. Wins/loses against good teams is stupid. The guy pulls his weight in the hardest position in sports.

To say someone in a team sport should keep his job only because the team won in a team sport seems counter intuitive to me.

You think he is good or you dont. Offer market value for a good player or dont. Dak should be reasonable during negotiations as well.

For First Time. Why Am I More Excited About Upcoming Season Of My Ohio St Buckeyes - College Football Than My Bewildered Cowboys/NFL.

Oh, Oh Wait.Buckeyes Took Advantage Of The NIL..

Ohio State Buckeyes Spent $13 Million and Counting in NIL Money in Attempt to Field Elite Roster. The Boosters and NIL collectives of the Ohio State Buckeyes have reportedly spent $15 million+ in NIL money to retain and/or add elite players to their 2024 roster Plus The Buckeyes 2024 Team Recruiting Rankings Place The Buckeyes #3 Overall With #1 Ohio St WR Jeremiah Smith Ranked #1 Of All Positions..

Now For The Cowboys..Per: PFT
Cowboys Rarely Sign Many Outside Free Agents..
Dallas sitting out free agency isn’t necessarily new. While the Cowboys have typically been willing to pay up to re-sign their own free agents, they haven’t often gone into the market to bring in external options.

Jones and Co. haven’t signed a single outside free agent with an average annual salary above $7 million over the past six offseasons..

While The Cowboys Will Be Fighting To Stay Out From The Bottom Dwellers..:hammer:

Excitement..The Buckeyes Are Fighting And Poised To Be One Of The Favs To Win The Natty..

NUFF SAID..

I suspect the Cowboys are waiting for TC to progress before signing Dak. The results they see with Lance may have impacted their thinking.

Actually, it seems to me that Jerry's favor has waned somewhat about his devotion to Dak, while Stephen is still favoring signing Dak ASAP.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if Jerry would like to see how well Lance performs, when evaluating him to see if he can develop impressively.
That first half in the GB game should have removed any doubt that Dak is not the guy.

This is what I see as the two remaining possibilities:

1.The Cowboys let Dak play out his current contract. This is his "prove it" year. If the Cowboys make a run, than by all means they will open up their wallet and give him what he wants. If they don't, they blow it all up and let him walk. Right now without Dak's deal (and Lambs and Parsons) Dallas has $90 million of cap space in 2025. And that's minus any 2024 cap rollover and minus any expected cap increase for next season. The space could exceed $100 million.

2. The Cowboys will just extend Dak later, like in August as they did with Trevon Diggs. They don't spend in free agency anyway, so waiting around to do Dak's deal doesn't matter to Jerry and Cap Boy anyway.

If they truly do move on from Dak I hope that everyone who has been clamoring for a rebuild will embrace it. A new coach, a new QB in 2025, one of the youngest teams in thr league and few long term contracts on the books is the right way to do it.

Knowing the Zone though, we’ll see some of the same Doom Patrol posters finding some way to trash the rebuild before it even begins.

At that point, I hope we can just wash our hands of them along with the Dak era.

Uh why not see if you can get Dak to rescind his trade clause snd get some compensation for him if you are going to do this.

who is going to pay 2 2nd for a 60M cap hit for one year? unless he agrees to a new contract (ala Browns did with Watson)
Nobody unless Jerry is picking up the tab.. like Denver ate it with Wilson, Pittsburg got a steal of a deal at 1.2 million.

2-5 playoff record.

Embarrassing loss.

Jerry humiliated on national TV.

Unlikely Jerry gives Dak anything.
The way things have stalled lately seem to indicate Jerry may decide to reconsider his former stance with Dak this year.

I'm awaiting the start of training camp to get a better handle on what the FO might decide to do concerning Dak's future.

Of course nothing is certain at this point in time, although, each day that goes by tends to suggest something is cooking.

True. Our priorities have shifted over the years. Jerry must have been livid when he didn’t get that second home playoff game. :muttley:
Standards have certainly dropped haven't they? From like 1970-1982 the Cowboys were in the NFC title game pretty much every year. The first round was always a given.

It looks like they will have a good team as long as he is the qb. Getting rid of him would put that in danger. They want to stay good as long as possible.
5-1 without him last 2 years. With a scrub backup.
Lolol at your take

By opting for a modest kicking of the salary-cap can in 2024, the Cowboys embark on the last year of quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract at a cap number of $55.455 million. With no ability to tag him in 2025, and no apparent inclination to extend the deal now, the Cowboys seem to be willing to let him finish the contract and see what happens.

if this is the strategy, I see Dak going down with injury around week 7. On purpose take his money and go rob another team for 5 years.

Yeah, Florio always tries to start some junk. Although I would love to know how much Dak would get on the open market after next season. If the Cowboys win a playoff game and Dak plays well would he actually break the 60 million a season barrier at 32 years of age or what it he takes a step back, gets injured or misses the playoffs. No team would offer him the more than Cousins. If might be in Dak’s best interest to sign the extension.
No one is paying him more than what Cousins got.
The league doesn't fear him or wish he was theirs. Maybe some bottom feeder teams will pay him Cousins money.
Let him walk and find out.

Dallas is going to wait until after the 2024 season to determine what the Cowboys are going to do?
If they resign Dak, which player are you going to let go? Diggs, Michah Parsons, or Cee Deez
Dallas can't keep them all and Dak is expecting 60 mil per year.

Dak had tremendous leverage, if the Cowboys felt compelled to sign him to an extension. If, as it seems, they’ve decided to let things play out and take their chances in 2025, it gives him less power to squeeze from them a market-value deal. This approach eventually could defer to the actual market, which will value services via one or more teams that pursue him next year.

How much will someone offer him? Kirk Cousins left the Vikings this year for the Falcons. He’s getting $45 million per year — $10 million per year less than the current high-end average. If Dak had hoped to use his sky-high cap number and his solid performance (in the regular season) to catch or beat the current maximum number of $55 million per year, the Cowboys quite possibly have decided to wait and see whether another team will make him that kind of an offer.

He’ll still count for more than $50 million next year if he leaves. Re-signing him before the void triggers would help better control the dead money.

Maybe they will, maybe they won’t.

I am afraid your going to be disappointed. If Dak is resigned, I will be watching less Dallas Cowboy games in 2024. I watched a
total of 3 games in 2023. It's going to be a rebuilding season next year, not really going to miss that much.
