I can't answer for @diamonddelts, but for me it's simple. The Cowboys were my first sports team. I grew up watching & reading about the legends. Suffered thru the oh so close years with Danny. Saw it fall apart until Jimmy rebuilt it. Basked in the glory of the magnificent 90's. Since then, have slowly come to realize and accept all the fatal flaws with this organization.

So, it's in my blood to want them to restore the legacy I grew up on. It's also become important to see the craziness called out cause I don't think anything will change until they reach a low that forces them to.

I really don't know how much I'll watch this season. The way it's looking, any interest will just be to see it go up in flames.
I think that’s exactly the case. A change is necessary when all hope is lost, which is where we are right now!

Welcome to the club Bob. I've felt the same way for about 10 years now. I didnt even flinch during the GB fiasco. It didn't even bother me. Kinda expected it I guess. My expectations have never been lower for this team. The Jones boys have destroyed this once proud franchise and the fan base. There is simply nothing left to hope for at this point. Just the same old sales pitch and same old results. Like you......ill believe it when I see it.

Boiling it down to ONLY SUPER BOWLS will make everyone happy...I think is dishonest. FAst and disappointing playoff exits are what people have objecting to.

What IS the flashpoint then. Well...show us more so we have an opportunity to see.

Getting TO and losing a sb also comes with it's own disappointment but it does mean you have played well for several BIG GAMES. I think that would go a long way.
Most of us would just be happy getting to an NFCCG right now. Anything that shows we're on the right track. It isn't even about SB's anymore.

I don’t think we are there yet.

The closet we have been to that was after 3 consecutive 5-11 seasons which brought major change with Parcells.

I think it would take another run as such to bring major change. 3 straight 12 win seasons despite however frustrating they ended isn’t going to do it . It has to hit rock bottom .

It’s tough for me to imagine getting on the right track with our current leadership in FO. Expecting something different is probably a false hope .

This is probably as good as it gets . Honestly I’m surprised they’re even able to field a playoff caliber team.

After 3 straight 12 win seasons they decide to do nothing. You don’t have to wait for a complete collapse. 36 wins is nice, but the same routine and results make them pretty irrelevant at this point. Because of those wins it makes the offseason and the front office look even more inept. Rock bottom is a complete failure to capitalize yet again.

I think you’re not paying attention if you don’t believe that’s the standard wanted by many. You yourself have even said that

Now I have also heard what you just outlined and perhaps that’s where you are now but when I said I’m a enjoy the journey fan and not SB or bust I do get pushback

2024 is going to be a lost season. 29 years and counting!
Destroying the roster and building it up can aren't mutually exclusive

That's why my personal choice of Lubricant is Neosporin because even as the destruction is occurring so is the healing.

No sir...I have NEVER said "super Bowl or bust".

Sorry bro...just never happened.

What I do know is some have said "no super bowl in 28 years"...isn't acceptable. That doesn't mean it happens every year. I already received on reply that even a NFCCC appearance would be nice.

I am on record that I don't even mind losing....just do it fiercely and with some pride. And yes...a conference championship appearance or even win....would be fine. But how would I know? Kinda have to DO it to know rather than make assumptions on people.

Perhaps they decided to do nothing because they basically like where they are.

I’d argue we remain relevant until we aren’t which is yet to be seen.

I’m not sure if it makes our FO as inept as some of our talent and coaching. Is it our owners fault they laid a turd in playoffs ? IDK.

We certainly can argue the toxic atmosphere leads to it but that same atmosphere led to a division title and 2nd seed. Not bad for one of the worst GM’s in the league . Just saying . And that’s coming from one of Jethro’s biggest critics.

Who actually gets the credit and blame ? It’s a worthy topic . I think most were blaming those on the field for the embarrassing collapse.

Ok Steve it’s not something I wish to debate or go back and find it but I seem to remember you telling me in another thread we were discussing playoff wins prior to Green Bay loss

Tampa came up and you mentioned beating crappy playoff teams don’t matter super does or something to that nature but it’s not that serious

The point is there are folks here that that’s the standard and anything short of it is failure . I heard it plenty

What’s to like after a beat down at home in January. An undressing by the Bills and another lopsided loss at the hands of SF? If you can’t hang with the best in the league, what’s to like? Even the days of beating up on the crap teams is coming to an end. Rock bottom isn’t far away when you choose to sit on your hands every year!

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying the journey. I’ve often said I just want at least 17 meaningful games each year. I don’t expect much more from our current leadership and FO.

But we must still be able to offer criticism and analysis which usually can come off as negative .

Some fans just don’t want to hear it. And that’s fine if they can’t stand the noise . I get it. I’d recommend staying away from social media:)

Then that comes down to the all or nothing mentality. Unfortunately it’s simply not possible for all teams to be on that level .

And with our ownership and FO I’m not sure why most fans would expect more.

Perhaps rock bottom is defined differently from fans . But I assure you this isn’t looking like rock bottom to Jethro & Son.

Here’s a not so bold prediction that will happen at the conclusion of the NFL draft next weekend: The Jones front office will sell this upcoming draft class as hard as any in recent history. They know their early exit from the playoffs last year coupled with the almost complete inactivity in free agency has left even the staunchest of Cowboys fans disgruntled and disheartened.

Yeah, the most embarrassing playoff loss in Cowboys history last January left a stink not easily washed out of the Star in one off-season. Not to mention 28 years of embarrassing playoff underachievement. I’m expecting a Jones sales pitch so intense PT Barnum will rise from the grave just to say, “Wow”.

Maybe we will get lucky and have a home run draft. Time will tell. I hope so. But the hard sales pitch is coming regardless. “Step right up folks.“

But most Cowboys fans know by now that the Jones boys’ off-season strategy every year centers more on marketing than it does actual strategic roster building. Honestly if Jerry drafted a one legged RB from Nowhere University he would sell that kid as the next coming of Emmitt Smith and for jersey sales purposes mandate #22 be worn to complete the marketing pitch.

With all the above in mind, here’s my off-season commitment:
  • I will believe results when they happen. Not before.
  • I will NOT buy the sales pitch that is coming. Period. If this team goes 16-1, I won’t “believe” anything until they win multiple playoff games.
  • If the Cowboys turn it around this year and win multiple playoff games for the first time in 3 decades, I will be thrilled. But I will believe it when it happens.
Trust me, a huge sales and marketing roll out is coming. We will be expected to trust in the same guys who gave us the last 28 years. They continue to expect this fan base to believe they know what they’re doing by doing it “their way”. The results speak otherwise.

Did I mention I will believe it when it happens?
I’m not sure what you expect from this team or any other Bob. Every team’s front office is going to speak positively about their draft and their plan. Can you imagine a reality where any team comes out the day after the draft and says “we had a terrible draft and don’t expect anyone to believe anything we say?

I understand the doubts and I agree in large part. I just don’t follow the intent of these predictions as they are the same as have been said hundreds of times since the end of the season.

I’m on team rebuild. If they finish the season without a Dak extension and a new coaching regime and QB is in place next year I would consider that a fairly significant development.

Expectations of a Super Bowl in this or any other year are misplaced and unrealistic but predicting failure is hardly a hot take.
