Oh, Dak clearly would prefer to have his extension already and has stated he wanted to be a Cowboy, so it is Jerry deciding rather he wants Dak, not vice versa.
And what has Jerry stated?

You keep believing GM Jethro is in control.

At the end of the day, it will be Dak's decision to stay or leave.

Dak only has leverage for free agency if he doesn't do what he has been doing for years, which is sucking it up against quality opponents and beating down on bad teams with a much better roster, unless the FO is a bunch of idiots. The FO being a bunch of idiots was reality as he sucked it up in 2020 on a franchise tag to "prove it", but still got paid and a no-trade clause by the idiot in FO. But it seems like Jerry has learned his lesson and isn't going to get suckered this time around.

We have no legit replacement on the roster, including Trance, regardless of how he plays in pre-season.(see Will Grier).

It will either be resign Dak or full blown rebuild in 2025. I am 100% fine with either decision.

We don't have a legit replacement nor do we have an actual guy to replace. The only "rebuild" we need is at QB, as we already drafted 2 OL starters and have Parsons, Diggs and Lamb. All franchises have needs.

You keep telling yourself that.

Jerry could take the FULL CAP hit in 2024 AND gain $29m in his own bank balance.
Take the hit in 2024 (quite doable, it'll take less than $10m in restructuring).....after all we aren't spending money in FA now...there's no-one left.
it'll put us in an excellent CAP position in 2025.
That sounds like a plan, unfortunately the words plan and Jerry Jones should never be used in the same sentence.

Jerry could sell the team and most likely put $12B in his own bank account.

keep seeing all these scenarios of his contract going forward.......can he just play out this year on his current contract and than we we can assess if we want to extend him or...are we stuck extending him or face cap hell?.......please explain
That is exactly what is most likely going to happen. No more and no less.

Same for CD and same for Micah.

Dak's deal is very tricky because it would be very expected to extend the deal for cap relief this year AND next.
BUT an extension means terms such as no trade and no tag remain in place for duration.
And you don't want to give him a 2-year extension because that does zero for you with cap purposes.
So it is just a bad spot.

Dak is a steal at his current AAV but you already reaped all that reward earlier and this last year is nasty work.
You also don't want a 4-5 year extension with these terms.
It is a complete mess but one that they should have seen coming and gotten way out in front of.

Dallas really needs to either partner Dak here or let him play it out and walk.
They can't keep illusion of control because they have none.

Sign on bonus would dictate whether a no trade clause would be needed or not. So I don' t believe a no trade clause would be a factor at his point in his career. Total years could be a factor.

Dak will be a Cowboy in 2024. That's a given.

Will they let Dak just play out his contract and only get a 3rd round comp pick in 2026? Not a very bright business decision especially with little chance of getting a good starting QB in the draft if we go 10 wins or better.

Is Trey Lance really going to be a good starting QB? Maybe/Maybe not. If they thought he was that good then why not trade Dak or trade Lance or trade Rush for decent draft capital.

Will Dallas extend Dak? Most likely and probably right before the season begins.

Will they extend Lamb? Yes but depends on which agent blinks first either Lamb or Jefferson or Aiyuk. Right now the going rate is going to be $33 million a year average.

Will they extend Parsons? Most likely to the tune of $34 million annually.

The average per year is not what you want to look at, it is the guaranteed money which is really what counts. And how each contract is structured over the number of years. Based on current projections, the salary cap will be close to $400 million in 5 years.

Just means we will be arguing about $100 million per year QB contracts then.

If an extension all previous tenets would survive the deal unless signed off on and agreed to as a line-item addendum.
If a new contract, then whatever was written would hold and default deals do not include these terms.
I can only imagine asking for a deal at a cut rate to help with cap but also want to have you initial line items that remove the earlier provisions for no trade and no tag.

If Dak signed a new deal without a no trade clause. In theory he could be traded tomorrow.

Neither side is in a rush to sign a new deal.

It wont be a full blown rebuild, we will be in search of a QB replacement period. You can roll with Lance for a year, draft a QB even if we have to trade up for one.
