It won’t work but Mavs showed you can work with two ball dominant players. The problem is they don’t have a big man now. Lebron can play with anyone. AD helps Mavs because AD can also play with anyone. It’s about health.

I think the Mavs will make it to the WCF if AD is healthy. Sounds like Mavs didn’t want to commit big money (super max contract) to Luka since he misses a lot of games.

My son is devastated...he's entire room is Luka and Mavs. Wears his jersey and shoes all the time.
He's already said he's done with the Cowboys after this past offseason and the start to this one. Now this....he's only 10 and his two favorite teams have completely pooped on their fanbase.

Luka meant so much more to Mavs fans than what Nico or the new ownership can comprehend. Heck, winning a title with AD and Kyrie would never compete with the feeling winning one with Dirk did or winning one with Luka could have.

Not hating on it, just the way things have changed.

On a side note, having connections to the league office and knowing their ratings were in the tank, recreating Celtics vs Lakers seems like total collusion. Adam Silver is kind of a snake.

Prob best thing you can do is help your kid follow Luka.

Pelinka just played Nico so bad. This should have been Dalton Knecht, AD, and 2 first round picks.

I honesty think there should be some kind of league investigation into Nico , how this trade came about, and why he only went to the Lakers.

It's very suspicious. Pelinka and Nico are old pals from their NIKE days. Nico only contacted the Lakers about this trade. Even if you want to argue that the team didn't want the max contract and feared Luka's workout habits, the right thing to do for the future of the franchise is to see what kind of offers you can get. This was very underhanded and sneaky. It reeks of a payoff and collusion.

Well he HATES the Lakers. He will still follow Luka but is lost on how to do it. Maybe once Lebron retires, he'll change his mind, but I doubt it. His dislike for them is of course driven home by his dad...lol

I do agree something is not right with this. With the ties to Kobe/Nike/Rob....this all seems too convenient. If the ownership wasn't so far out of the loop, this never would happen. They just don't get it.

Would not surprise me if Nico ends up back at Nike with a nice retirement setup.

There is no way this isn't collusion and self sabotage from the owners. They couldn't get their casinos here, so they will tank this franchise and get them to move to Vegas. It's what happened to the Oakland A's. Luka wasn't shopped around at all. They could have gotten a king's ransom for him and shopped him all summer. Would have been Lebron 2010 pt 2. To get a broken down, aging AD and one single pick 5 years from now, should be investigated. Not even the Jones family circus is this dumb.

This is on par with trading Joe Burrow for Dak.

Darth is spot on. Just a dumb GM move if anything, not collusion. Money, power and corruption? LOL. Well… maybe money and fame because most players probably want to play in the LA Market on a legendary team like the Lakers, while the Hollywood famous cheer them on. What Jerry still thinks he has with the Cowboys.

Kareem demanded the Bucks trade him and would only accept NYC or LA. As a devout Muslim and a 7’ black guy in white Wisconsin he felt he did not belong. He wanted diversity and culture. Huge jazz fan and couldn’t even find a radio station in Milwaukee that played his music. The Knicks could have had him, LA got there faster.

Kobe was a 13th draft pick. Same as Kawhi Leonard who the Spurs realized had unlimited potential as the 14th pick and traded to the Pacers to grab him first. Easy to say the Hornets should have known on Kobe after the fact but these were the years when high school players were coming out left and right, and for every Kobe, you had several duds who were drafted much higher. Charlotte also got a solid starting center in Vlade.

Magic became a Laker because back In the day a protected draft pick trade did not exist and NBA free agency required a team to give up a draft pick to the team they signed the player from. The Jazz knew what they were doing and probably didn’t bank on it being the #1 overall draft pick. Give the Lakers credit too because not everyone was sold on a tall PG.

And here’s another thing that ruins your theory. The Lakers once tried to get CP3 on the team in his prime but were shut down by the NBA who owned the other team.
