So we're just supposed to forget the whole Mingo for a 4th rounder?

Sure he is when you look at what players were available. You might have your 3rd receiver for pick 114 and he is on a rookie deal. Look at his production in the SEC when Dart was his qb.
His production in college doesn’t matter. He regressed in Carolina and they moved on. We traded for him in hopes he could be our WR2. I would have been okay with the trade for a 6th or 7th but we overpaid.

I mean if you think trading a 4th round pick for the Panthers backup WR (he had been beaten out of the starting lineup by a practice squad player) is a good trade then I am sure there are no shortage of teams who would gladly part ways with their failed backups for a 4th.

I think that there is nothing wrong with trading for Mingo. We will see what happens, these receivers will be in a battle to get on the field.

So since we suck at drafting in the 4th round anyway, might as well throw away the pick?
I don't think it was a bad trade because I don't value a 4th round pick worth 66 points.

The only value a 4th round pick has is to move up in the 3rd or 2nd round. Since Dallas never does that, might as well take a shot with Mingo.

I just don't put as much value on that pick compared to others.

the only thing I can say about Mingo in the NFL is that he's not really had a legit go of things with a legit QB throwing to him.

2023: CAR: Young struggled his rookie year.
2024: CAR: Young didn't do much better
2024: DAL: 8 games in a new system with a backup QB.

I'm honestly curious what he can put together with a full off-season and TC with Dak

Upside: solid WR3
Downside: wasted 4th round pick

He is going to be a 3 way battle for the number 4 WR spot. His best case this year is the number 4 WR. By the way a 31% catch percentage is abhorrent no matter who is throwing you the football. I would expect practice squad WRs to catch more than 40% of balls thrown their way. At least with Pickens being on the lower end you can say its because he is a big play guy so being under 60% is, almost, explainable. Mingo does not have that excuse as he averaged under 10 yards a catch with basically no ability to catch.

Pickens is the kind of rental you make when the team on the precipice of competing and need that one more piece. This team isn't close to competing bc of the defense. I just get tired of watching the Jones morons make the same errors over and over. They don't learn from mistakes. So, now we have our Irvin, Harper, and Aikman. Maybe one for these RBs becomes Emmitt Smith and we can then relive the 90's. Oh wait..... the defense.
I agree, but in a watered down league, anything can happen if you can compete. I still have the terrible taste in my mouth after being fed lies last year time and time again about being all in. Think about it, they purposely let a hc,most of the staff, the fans, the team, suffer due to the GB game and how we lost. The most selfish cringey thing Jerry has ever done while owning the team was what we witnessed in 2024. He now wants us to love him lol...he created the problem, rides in on his white horse, attempts to fix the problems HE CREATED, knowingly. This is why fans have serious doubts about anything we do. Good or bad. I understand it completely. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Did we see him with Dak? Holding on to the frustration of a sucky 4th round pick trade is one thing. But when they actually make a good trade after, I can let it go. In any relationship, it'll jus stress me out holding out to past mistakes especially if I'm not going anywhere. Does anyone remember the Roy Williams trade? And I'm still a fan sooooo

I don't get the problem?

We all knew that a new #2 WR was desperately needed. They addressed the problem and they made 2 trades to try and get a good one and deepen the WR room. I get that there was a gap in time between the signings but essentially they spent a 3rd, a 4th and a 2027 5th for Pickens, Mingo and a 2027 7th. That isn't a bad thing.

Too early to declare it a bad move.
why? he has 0 TDs in three years. was 6th on his team among WRs and 10th in recieving. he couldn't even get an accidental TD in 51 games in NFL.
it was a bad trade. his production past two years is worse than UDFAs we have on this team. just see Turpin.

its not too early. it was a bad trade the minute it happened. quick trying to pump sunshine up everyone's arse...I get it. you are loyal. everything is awsome, all the time. but a dose of reality once in a while is a good thing

I was just thinking about this today. Pickens' arrival means Mingo will struggle to make the team.

Right now four receivers are locks- Lamb, Pickens, Tolbert, and Turpin. The 5th and 6th receivers need to contribute on special teams, something both Jalen Brooks and Ryan Flournoy do that Mingo does not.

Right now it looks like Mingo will need to beat Tolbert- who had 7 TD grabs last season- outright to have a role.
Mingo has had 0 TDs in three years in the league. that is a ZERO.

This a 1000 times over.
:hammer:

Possible, some would say probable. I say, with an improved OL, RBs and WRs groups, there will not be any excuses. Dak can be very good, he needs a coach in his ear throughout the game. Can't leave him alone with that deer in the headlights look that he gets. They leave him alone too much. QB coach needs to be on the sideline and not the box
so when we lose games 35-31....whose fault is that?
