How bad was the Tyler Booker pick?

When you need athletic players on a poor defense. Picking a guard in the first round is probably a poor move.

Doesn't have anything to do with Booker. IMHO. It's all about the misses on defense idiot Jones made through the years. Taco-Mazi-others. There''s really no dominate player on our defense and that's ALL drafting by the idiot GM.

Well except the DT mentioned as the other consideration for that pick hasn’t suited up once this season, including preseason I think!
And no, a 12th pick for a slot cornerback is a woeful mismanagement of capital and wouldn’t have any bearing on what you’re watching!

I felt the same way. You can get by with solid at OG, and we were solid at OG; you don't need to put soooo many resources there, especially when we are so weak across the board on defense.

It was a terrible pick and will continue to be. 1st round guards are for good teams looking for a finishing pieces for a Super Bowl. The Cowboys lack difference makers at almost every key position (outside of WR) and chose to draft the least difference making position possible.

Not to mention Tyler Smith’s huge contract. Just an absolutely insane use of resources into the Guard position.

As other’s have said, drafting 1st round OL seems to be like a warm cozy blanket to the front office. It’s safe and easy and makes them feel smart when it hits.

I get needing a corner now, i was worried about diggs, not sure why they paid bland, seems like he hasn’t been year to year good. So relying on the 2 paid corners and a guy we drafted in the 3rd to come back and belp when hes healthy wasn’t a terrible idea. Cowboys are in weird draft spots, i wouldnt even care if they went safety back to back in the coming draft. Hoping Faulk is there if we really are that bad though.

Add in the Schoonmaker and Revel picks. They are not helping.

The booker pick is a super winning pick. I'm happy with it. Injuries happen. When the line gets healthy and Tyler smith stars living up to his ranking, well have a dominant line.

Been saying this since draft day. Booker is a solid G but you don't need to pick a G that high in the draft. Hell, our best G's have been converted OTs. Booker does not play a difference making position.

When you draft a player in the 1st round based entirely on what you need from that player the first season you probably have no idea what you're doing in an NFL war room.

Drafting for need in the 1st is often how disasters happen. That's how you wind up with Mazi Smith or Taco Charlton. If they'd - for example - drafted Walter Nolen, he wouldn't have helped, he hasn't played a snap. The hit and miss of one season is not the most important thing with a 1st rounder. Rico would've ran through our defense, either way.

If the Cowboys were serious about this season, they wouldn't have traded far and away their best defensive player before the season even started.

The best player in the draft available when we drafted was, IMO, Tyler Warren. If he winds up a hall of famer, no one is going to look back in 15 years and wonder what Indianapolis' needs were in 2025 when they drafted him.

In any event, no rookie could make this defense even respectable. Too many guys are below average or terrible, and are exposed without offenses having to worry about Parsons. The bad drafting wasn't in 2025, it's been most of the last 5 or 6 years.

We lost a game today because our slot corner was playing 15 yards out on a 4th down

Exactly my point. We take Torrence instead of Schoonmaker, and then we're not forced to take Booker. Bad draft affect every draft thereafter. Need a GM to run the draft.
