PFT: Pickens wants to remain in Dallas but says his value has increased

That's all I've been saying you just like to argue every point I guess so you have an excuse to write a lot of stuff! Just because you feel he's a #2 doesn't mean he feels that way. I'm sure he feels stronger than that, and I swore he just said his value has gone up
It's not even what I said that's the whole point you're missing here on this team he is the number two because we already pay a receiver top three wide receiver money that means George Pickens being the last person in is being considered as the number two I don't see how you can't be clear about that here on this team he is a number two..

He can go be a number one somewhere else I guarantee it's not going to be where Jamar Chase Amon St Brown or Justin Jefferson or AJ Brown or CD Lamb he will not go to another team that already has a highly paid number one receiver on it you still don't get it I said if he chooses to remain here he must be classified as the number two in money on this team but he's still making top seven money how is that not number one money?>

Value from where did it start and end??

where exactly was he starting?

yeah ,he'll make more money than his rookie year ,Yup his value definitely went up ,but being paid top 7 wide receiver money is somehow not moving up in value? Being the 7th highest paid receiver in the league staying on the same team where you were able to produce and get those numbers is somehow a negative to you and you think that's how he's thinking??

again, bye bye I'll take that number one in that $30 million and use it to build my team much quicker than you all worrying about George Pickens being on the Cowboys so you have something to cheer for on offense I prefer a better team not a better offense Need a better offense...

You are right if he wants to force the issue and go make 35 million and be the clear number one somewhere he'll have a few options and on another team without another clear number one yes he is the number one wide receiver on this team he's not because we already have that guy if you can't see it that way I'm sorry but other guys who are just as good if you don't think T Higgins or Devante Smith or Waddle can start elsewhere they chose to stay they gave their team a team friendly deal that still gives them a **** load of money..

Again if top seven makes you paid like a number one why do you have to be the highest paid number one he will not get that he will not get Chase or Jefferson money but if you want CD lamb money he will definitely have to leave.

That is my point you still don't see the point that here on this team he's classified as a number two it's very clear why.... If he wants to be one B that's still less money than CD lamb that's still $30 million..

1a ,clear 1 =Lamb, Here in Dallas, that makes him 1B ie WR2 ON THIS ATEAM That's just how our depth chart is set up right now if he don't like it, he can go but I don't care what semantics are if he wants to remain here $30 million isn't a lowball number...

I never said he couldn't be a number one somewhere else but wherever that is they can't have a guy that's being paid like Lamb they won't happen..

Stated in that argument article which I didn't read but I read some of the on another outlet that summarized it that he wants to stay in Dallas to me that means he would have to be OK with being one beat if he don't like being called the number 2 I don't care because $30 million still gets him top ten money it's seventh in the league if he gets $30 million really that sure is slapping him in the face poor Jerry lowballing this poor guy who came here with a bad reputation and wanted to use the team to elevate his value and it worked on this team..

I'm not sure you're agreeing with me or not but you do realize we have no second or 3rd round draft pick That doesn't leave us a lot of opportunities also up against the cap not a lot of opportunities trading George Pickens for A 1st round pick that can be turned into multiple picks I mean you imagine what we could do with 3 first round picks and an extra $30 million?

That is my point you can't afford to offer George Pickens any more money than being paid the top WR2 money he'd still be 7th in this league for wide receiver money I don't think that's a bad offer if he wants to leave then you get a 1st round pick and a lot of money I think the Cowboys win either way as a fan I win either way i'm going to be OK with either scenario I don't see a losing option here and I think some people will they'll be hating Jerry for poor George Pickens only being lowballed giving him the 7th highest paid wide receiver contract in the NFL would be a slap in the face because they hate Jerry and you guys want to pile on Jerry and I wouldn't do it either...
If Pickens is not playing for Dallas next season the team he does play for is either already better than the Cowboys or is a team that is about to be.

He’s played four years and his performance was better than receivers paid double and triple what he was being paid. Now he wants the money he’s already earned in addition to the money he’s about to earn. And you resent him for it. Shame on you.

I don't understand the outright ignorance of Dallas fans. Always screaming to get rid of any talented players in favor of draft picks. But at the same time, these same fans scream and cry about how Jerry is the worst general manager in the NFL.

Yet the answer is always to gut the team of it's best talent and give a bumbling 83 year old GM more picks to screw off. And to boot, the same fans share the same amnesia and always talk about giving up more talent in hopes of additional draft picks to build the defense. Yet, this GM has not been able to field a competent defensive roster especially at DT and Safety in over thirty years.

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.
They love the draft more than they love the team.

The agents of every free agent, other than Pickens’ agent, on the team is negotiating from a stance that their client cannot be franchise tagged. Dallas has to hold the tag open for Pickens. It only makes things more difficult.

Jerry should have started to get an extension with Pickens four or five weeks into the season. Never proactive.
I really hate how the Cowboys handle their business. It always feels like they don’t want to negotiate in good faith with players and agents. Instead, they try to get cute, drag things out, and somehow sneak their way into a discount.

That approach just feels unfair and honestly pretty dumb. If Jerry wants a deal, start the negotiations early. Be upfront. Ask for a bargain and be willing to hear a counteroffer. What keeps happening instead is guys like Dak and CeeDee end up winning these standoffs anyway. And let’s be real—Dallas has benefited plenty from paying top talent when it actually matters.

It just doesn’t need to be this messy or full of drama every single time.

That's a problem I mean maybe push it to 30 he will not get paid like a starter here because he's not technically the starter I mean why do people not understand that the starting wide receivers in this league the top three are pretty highly paid the rest of them. Those are your clear number ones not the ones sharing that would be T higgins money. he was a little inflation added.. I added that below.. That is not what I call modest that is not lowballing He should be in that range with those other part two of a duo that are up for second contracts.

Look below they're in that 28 to $29 million range I mean you want to add a little inflation this year maybe Jerry would do 30 but if I'm Jerry I'm not paying him more than 30 this is not a scenario where you just say pay the man we already have one of those he's on that list right there below He's technically making 39 million but the way it works out with AAV and bonus money it says 34 there's no way teams can afford to have two receivers making top five money...

Ja'Marr Chase's contract includes $112 million in total guarantees, setting a new market standard for the position.

WR2

As of March 2025, Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is the highest-paid No. 2 wide receiver in NFL history. He signed a 4-year, $115 million contract extension, which includes $67.7 million guaranteed, giving him an average annual salary of $28.75 million, making him the top-paid WR2.
  • Player: Tee Higgins (Cincinnati Bengals)
  • Contract: 4 years, $115 million ($28.75M AAV)
  • Context: Signed in March 2025 following a record extension for WR1 teammate Ja'Marr Chase.
  • Other Top WR2s: Other high-paid secondary receivers include Jaylen Waddle ($28.25M), DeVonta Smith ($25M), and Deebo Samuel ($23.85M).
These examples you give are exactly why we shouldn't pay for 2 1A receivers, even if you get one on a slight discount. None of those teams are competitive. The cowboys are not competitive with Ceedee and Pickens.

Not because of the offense you say?!? Not directly, but indirectly, they can sub a B level receiver in for Pickens and move that money to one or several defensive players that move the defensive needle.

Nope....spoken like a fan wanting Jerry to be creative like Howie Roseman......instead of taking one step forward and then three backwards.......Contracts can be restructured to help this situation instead of always resorting to blaming one guy (Dak) for the dysfunction with this team and some. No salary capologist like some on this board, but I'm curious why can't Dak, CeeDee, and Bland contracts couldn't be restructured in some kind of way to help keep portion of the team intact. The D simply needs bodies that can run and tackle......draft upcoming.

The D simply needs bodies that can run and tackle......draft upcoming.?

That's the mentality that has our defense in its current predicament. We need some stars on our defense with a framework, a game plan, and a general to lead every freaking game like it's for world domination. Taking back some money earmarked for offense will help us create a balanced ship.

No examples exist of 2 1A receievers getting paid and that team goes on to Superbowls. We don't need both. I don't care which one we keep, but we don't need both.

But Dak won't have anybody to throw to. *lips quiver, and tears run down my face* dak already said he needs him, Lamb isn't good enough.

you keep saying #2 I don't understand your infatuation with saying this, but ok if that's how you see him great. I'm sure with the season he's had and his agent trying to get him the biggest deal, he'll want #1 money he deserves it
He's saying #2 as a general statement. Either one of them can be #1 and #2. I don't care who we keep or trade. Just saying one of them has to be paid like #2 and more specifically our #2 receiver needs to make around 15 million/yr max. Therefore, move on from this silly argument that we need 2 alpha receivers as we can spend that money in more needed and impactful places. If you want evidence, look at our records pre Pickens and now.

Who cares what he feels like? We should do what is right for the team and to win championships and not what is right for the player and if he doesn't like it, he doesn't have to play here.

No problem with your thoughts......I have no problem with Pickens getting paid. Can't afford to let that talent go......hard to believe......right. Anyway, just my opinion and avoid the talking heads trying to keep controversy going about a 7-9-1 team.

By the way, you pay Pickens. I can see Dallas trading a player for draft picks to build the defense. It has to be done. We can't have another year like last year.
I agree. The trouble is I’m struggling to think of another player at a premium position that we could trade for a top draft pick. Can come up with a few second-string Money 5 guys, and a couple of starters at less valuable positions (tag-and-trade for J Williams being the main one), but I just don’t see any of those options turning in a FRP, or even a D2P.

His value has increased. I'll gladly take the draft picks and not the headache that will follow.
Give this guy a boatload of money. He will come unglued.

Because his agent, not a Jerry Jones favorite, would exert a tremendous degree of control of any trade. No team is giving up anything for him without a deal in place. That requires negotiation with Pickens’ agent. No way Jerry sits on the sideline and watches and waits for David Mulugheta to inform him of the deal he’s worked out and with whom. And they will sit on an unsigned tag, which means he cannot be traded, and only sign it when he’s forced to, too late to be traded or sign a deal with the Cowboys. (July 15) The worst case scenario for them is $28 million for one season and he’s a free agent again.

For the Cowboys, they tie up $28 million against the 2026 tag possibly through mid-July hamstringing efforts to improve the roster. The “tag and trade” scenario benefits Pickens…and by extension his agent.
The Cowboys can free up more cap space than they will spend even if Pickens is tagged.

They easily can. That doesn’t make it ideal. And it will create an excuse for Jerry to not spend on a top tier free agent the team could make use of.

That's fine with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 30+ is too much going to another WR on this team!!! Think of how many players we can get with that 30 million or whatever

Not much has changed, not like he got us into the superbowl lol

I think it's too much either way having that much allocated to the WR position, think of what other things we could do with that money (fixing the defense)

I’m generally in the camp of pay the top players but he’s only been in the Cowboys one season and he wasn’t that valuable in Pittsburgh. I think the tag is best and make him repeat another season like he had. I’m not opposed to trading him though if he won’t play on the tag or if the Cowboys get an amazing offer.
