Frankly, Jerry should have already been talking to his agent. I think Jerry is afraid of Mulegheta. That’s Jerry’s fault. If he can’t handle these negotiations, then he should step down and stop playing GM wannabe. We won’t mind that at all.

The agents of every free agent, other than Pickens’ agent, on the team is negotiating from a stance that their client cannot be franchise tagged. Dallas has to hold the tag open for Pickens. It only makes things more difficult.

Jerry should have started to get an extension with Pickens four or five weeks into the season. Never proactive.

If we give him the nonexclusive tag, we don't have to make him an offer. It's up to him and his agent to go get an offer and then Dallas has the chance to match it or get two first-round picks in exchange. Now, it's not likely any team is going to offer two first-rounders in exchange, but that's not Dallas' problem. That's Pickens' agent's problem.

Let the market either set his price or let him play on the tag. If he doesn't want to play on the tag, then let his agent offer incentive for Dallas to give him a long-term deal.

And I could see him balking for that reason next year if we tagged him again. This year, he's coming off his best season, but he's also coming off being traded to our team because of his behavior in Pittsburgh. Having to show he can behave himself on a one-year tag is not an unreasonable request.

Tag and trade is what I would do. Get something. You don't need 2 number 1 wr's to make it to the Superbowl. If we can get a 1 and a 3 or etc I would trade him. Not worth tying so much money up at the WR position when the defense needs major work. As we seen last season. It didn't really matter how good our defense was if we continue to give up easy scores. I rather pair Ceedee :Lamb up with a vet type guy. Something like Seattle did with did with JSN and Cooper Kupp. Or see what Flournoy can do. We should have tried to trade Tolbert for anything last season. He is a unrestricted FA in the offseason so now we get nothing for him. Unless we feel like we would get more for him via comp pick.

The notion Mulugheta is going to be pushed around by a light weight jerk like Jerry Jones is laughable. If the Cowboys are willing to pay Pickens $1.5 million, every week for eighteen consecutive weeks George will take every one of those checks and be a free agent again next year.

Will the Cowboys get his best efforts with him playing on the franchise tag? No way of knowing. The whole league will understand he may not be thrilled with the situation. And when he’s open and Dak doesn’t look his way, is that Dak missing an opportunity or Jerry wanting George de-emphasized? No way of knowing.

They should never use the franchise tag on a situation like this. It is a deliberate attempt to pay Pickens less than his market value. He will see this as Jerry using the system to cheat him.

Typically, the franchise tag is given to a player whose market value is equal to or less than the amount for being franchised. Either a contract is pending or the team wants to see a repeat of the previous season.

However, the main point is the loss of trust and the probable issues stemming from the difference in salary amounts. The Cowboys are the last team on planet Earth in need of drama.

Pay him or, most likely, kiss him goodbye.

Jerry couldn't bring his agent to the table during the season.

Yet the answer is always to gut the team of it's best talent and give a bumbling 83 year old GM more picks to screw off. And to boot, the same fans share the same amnesia and always talk about giving up more talent in hopes of additional draft picks to build the defense. Yet, this GM has not been able to field a competent defensive roster especially at DT and Safety in over thirty years.

Oh he's locked in $28-30M range but another CLEAN ( meaning no behavior/dumb issues) All Pro season would elevate his value to $35M+ 2027 IMO. Easily top 5 contract......

The evidence is in front of you and most of you just want to talk about what Pickens is worth or he deserves it, etc.

What is Pickens worth to the team right now is what you should be asking.

With Pickens, Lamb, best version of Dak, you got an offense ranked #2 in yards and #7 in points and we finished 7-9-1.

Signing or tagging Pickens might keep your offense in the top 5-10 but how will that translate to a well rounded Superbowl bound team?

Like it or not, we have an abundance on Receiving talent and the opportunity to trade some of that talent away and use it to bolster up other areas. Through trade/free agency and possibly future talent in the draft but drafts will not be as impactful day 1.

Pickens or Lamb are not fractional. We can't break them into pieces and trade them off. But we can replace and supplement with a reliable and good receiver that can make 80% of the production Pickens did at a fraction of the cost and invest that savings into a section of your team that is in the bottom ranks of the NFL.

We know the all guns model doesn't work. See burrow bengals, greatest show on turf, 2007 patriots, 2013 Broncos.

Signing/Tagging Pickens will sell jerseys but not tickets to the SB. We need to reallocate our resources to shore up other lagging areas but that's not "sexy" and not something our GM is good at.

There is so much greed, it is ridiculous. Whether he averages 15, 20, 25 or 30 million, there is generational wealth that can set up five generations of Pickens. When we are discussing such super high annual salaries, so what if another player has a higher salary.

Hey, George, you will be in the upper stratosphere of income earning. You want to cause dissent and disharmony with the team that resurrected your career? That is exactly what you will do if you do not sign a multi-year contract in the off-season. You are not a choir boy. You have exhibited some abrasive behavior. You will cause a severe rupture of team chemistry. I still remember you pulling the facemask of Jourdan Lewis and pulling him to the ground, after Lewis sealed a Cowboy victory against your former Steelers. That was a mean, punk act on your part. Let's keep your act clean and exhibit permanent exemplary behavior.

Just remember, George, place your money with a proven highly ethical and reliable financial team that has brought success and safety to other great NFL and MLB players. You will have a net worth of over $100 million in 4-5 years. Do not be stupid and follow the T.O model of financial management.

Just sign for a reasonable multi-year contract, behave well, and commercials and endorsements will flow to you which can give you additional income and ego satisfaction. You can discuss these Dallas opportunities with to Emmitt.

Do not let your agent's greed cause more internal dissension on a team in dire need of harmony in its quest to restore itself to the glory days of yesteryear.

Crazy isn't it.........the min players start wanting their fair compensation (never mind they spent 4/5 years on a cheap rookie deal), many fans want him gone. More often than not, it's the same jealous ones who cringe at the thought of players making sooo much more money than they are.

Signing Pickens isn't taking one dime from the defense, not one........We ALL know this. It's crazy how many are playing we can't afford him card, especially with the new NFL cap numbers.
