Schlereth: Cowboys are the frontrunner to win their division

Why even play, just give them the trophy already and dial up Sam Williams for the celebration party.
Hey Sam Williams is just fine for the celebration party; just don't make him a designated driver.

Yes.

Washington has done nothing to get better and were bad last year even with Daniels. NYG still has no offense and their defense moved laterally, if anything. Philly's offense is bad and will be worse when they trade AJ Brown - you can't depend on winning 4 games a year scoring less than 21 points.
I agree. But the more I think about it there is no clear cut frontrunner in the division.

The Cowboys have a chance to be that team....assuming the offense maintains it's pace from last year and the defense is even marginally better. Seeing as it can't get any worse; I guess I understand why Schlereth and other media people are propping up Dallas.

Yea I mean I think "frontrunner" is a bit of a misleading term. The division winner this year might be 8-9 lol

Philly does a pretty good job of replacing players it loses. The Eagles might be worse without Brown, but they did draft a first-round receiver to pair with Smith. Now, their offense was pretty ordinary even with Brown, but defense is their strength. They weren't as strong as usual last year before they got Phillips and even though they lost him, they replaced him with Greenard in the trade with Minnesota. Don't know how that will work out for them.

My contention with the Eagles is they didn't really do anything that signifies that they improved, but they probably held serve, so it's up to the rest of the division to catch them. Did we do enough to do that? We'll see.
Dallas closed the gap much more than some want to give them credit for.
We already seen and heard 3 or 4, maybe more, media personnel say good things about how Dallas improved. They are not coddling Philly like they used to.

I'm not going to fall for a comment that says the Cowboys are strong on both sides of the ball and will their division. Too many times, on paper the Cowboys look and sound like they have what it takes to win the Eastern Division, and the team ends up falling on its face.

There is a chance that Ol Jerry could throw a monkey wrench in the works ain't no doubt. But this roster looks solid and with some team chemistry and a few breaks going our way for a change, one never knows what can happen. Being a positive thinker is a good way to go through life; it certainly helps it is the right attitude to have. I believe Dallas is on the rise.
I think Jerry just being involved is a permanent monkey wrench... He is such a good salesman he has the entire team believing all they have to show up and they should win. Lets not forget the snow-cones during practice.. HA.. Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited to see how it all unfolds but at this point the broken record will remain broken until evidence proves otherwise.

You sound like me, I love the Cowboys as well, but Ol Jerry as a GM is a completely different story. Ol Jerry is a hindrance to the overall success of this football team. But things seem to be getting better here lately with others in charge of decisions made. Players are better and coaches are better it would seem. This improvement started after the Parsons trade and has continued through the off-season in free agency and with a strong draft.

It's so weird how people on here don't see that Philly is on the way down. There were not remotely close to dominant last season w/ a huge falloff from the previous season.

I don't understand giving them credit before we even see anything. I like a lot of the moves that we made, but who knows how it is going to work out. Maybe we closed the gap, maybe we didn't.

Yeah, but on the way down was still 11-6 last year, so if they maintain the level they were at, we still have to catch them.

Now, as I've said, it looks to me like they are treading water this year while we improved several positions. We'll see if that's enough to overtake them.

They were very lucky to win 11 games. And the Cowboys and Gnats will be better.

I haven't looked at who walked this offseason for them. They've lost a ton the last two offseasons.

I don't agree that the players believe all they have to do is show up. I get no indication that our players don't work as hard as other NFL players.

Jerry's interference is in the decision-making process. He and Stephen are ultimately responsible for the coaches and players we acquire and they have failed in this responsibility to build a good-enough team to compete for titles. The only time they did it was when Jimmy was pulling the personnel strings.

We've acquired 6 new starters for the D. There is zero doubt that our D will better, just depends on how much better and if some of the rooks can play.

There's a little luck involved, but they won 11 games because they were the better team in 11 games, whether that's because of Lamb having multiple drops in a game or some other reason, I'm not going to take away from what Philly accomplished. We were 7-9-1. The Giants were 4-13. Until we prove it, we're still looking up at Philly.

As far as who walked. It seems to me like Roseman does a good job overall of replacing players who leave. He failed to do that at defensive end for 2025 and that hurt the Eagles defense until they traded for Phillips. This year, they lost Phillips and traded for Greenard. Like with our trade for Gary, though, we'll have to see how that works out since Greenard had a down year for Minnesota.

I expect it to be better. Don't know how much better. We're changing schemes, so there may be some adjustment time. I have questions about our corners (which are not new starters) and OLBs/pass rushers in particular. I think Parker will scheme some pressure, but if he has to scheme it to get it, it will leave other areas vulnerable.

Right now, until we prove otherwise, I give the Eagles the edge on defense. We have the edge on offense, though. Of course, the Eagles have done better with most of this same personnel on offense than they did last year, so who knows how they will play. They have a new coordinator to adjust to there as well.
