TRADED Cowboys trade for OT Broderick Jones

Watching clips of Jones he is big and agile, but his pass protection technique is just horrible. He lunges, his base isn't set, he reaches, his hand placement is poor and he drops his head. If he only played one year I'd say this is a guy who could very easily be fixed, but he has played 3 years and I'm sure the Steelers tried to fix this so I worry whether it's possible with him. Then you look at our guys. I think the world of Klayton Adams and like Riley too, but in year 2 Guyton was still doing all of these same things (maybe he turns the corner this year?) and Steele does a lot of it as well although his issues are a little different. So it's not like "see problem, fix problem" is going to be easy with Jones. Then you throw in the injury and the weight loss.I do think we made the team better because he is better than our 2 backup OTs, but I think we overpaid seeing as he may take a year to get healthy and is a free agent after this year.

I do not like it.
Our draft next year is now.
1, 2, 4, 6

was
1, 2, 3, 6, 6

And no comp picks.

Stupid trade and in last year of his contract.
I agree.
2027 is meant to be a very strong draft. I would have thought keeping all Day1-2 picks and try and acquire more would have been a better strategy.

Yes. But now they will basically be non participants. I doubt they can get any decent picks for any depth players they have.
As they never do.
If so maybe a 6th and / or 7th.

Just saw this elsewhere, but remember the clip of some OT on the Steelers tackling AR after a nice play? Yup, that's our guy, so I changed my mind and now love the trade. AR was going to punch him in the teeth; it looked like

Well, if we need a 3rd, there is a way. The Dolphins just cut two QBs. They don't have a QB2. Maybe we could try to trade Howell to them and see if we can get a 3rd back?

So Dallas is going to the Super Bowl this year? I dunno about that.
All I know for sure is Steele is a liability in pass protection, and this needs to be fixed by Broderick Jones or Ajani Cornelius . Getting right tackle fixed would greatly improve this teams chances at a deep playoff run, and yes this team could very well win it all if it can stay healthy. And it can get a few lucky breaks, along the way.
This team has improved in both talent and within the coaching staff. I hope Klayton Adams and Oline coach Reilly , pounded the table for Broderick Jones services, and this was not just another Jerry panic move, however.

I’ve seen it reported he has lost a lot of weight.

He was cleared end of July but a spinal infusion for an offensive tackle sounds wild.

I do think we’ve gone too far saying “he sucks”.

He’s ok. That’s all we really need from him.

We don’t have ok behind our current starters.

I think he really needs more upper body strength and a better punch at the point of contact.

Points wise its a wash

3+6= 54-65 points
Mid 4th 55-64 points.

Plus Dallas gets a young player with 38 starts in career.

Not a huge needle mover but at OT not going to find that either.
What chart are you using
a mid 3rd is like 190 points. Just think about it. How can a 3rd plus anything be equal to a 4th?

Just saw reports that the Steelers were not actively shopping Jones and it was the Cowboys that called them?

If true it's kind of surprising.

Got to adjust my 53 for this acquistion:

OFFENSE
QB (3) Prescott, Howell Milton
RB (3) Williams, Davis Blue
FB (1) Luepke
TE (3) Ferguson, Spann-Ford, Schoonmaker
WR (6) Lamb, Pickens, Flournoy, Turpin, Mingo, Brown
OL (10) Guyton, Smith, Beebe, Booker, Steele, Bass, Jones, Keegan, Thomas, Shelton

DEFENSE
OLB (5) Gary, Eze, Miller, Lawrence, Houston
DT (5) Williams, Clark, Ogbonnia, Bullard, Overton
ILB (4) Overshown, Winters, Barham, James
CB (5) Bland, Durant, Revel, Steward, Moore
S (5) Downs, Thompson, Hooker, Bell, Locke

SPECIAL TEAMS
K (1) Aubrey
P (1) Anger
LS (1) Sieg

I'd either cut Thomas or try to put Shelton on the practice squad and either keep Williams/Wheat or Barron instead, but I'm not sure that the team will do that and I'm trying to guess what the team will do, not what I want them to do.
Only difference we have is if Jones is ready to play I'm not keeping two crappy OTs behind him so Thomas goes for Leverett

Even if not a third, maybe we can get a couple mid/late picks back. Either way, the Dolphins have opened an opportunity for us. And I'd argue that Howell is about as good as their starter, so they may give us a lot for him.
