Let me ask you this though. If great quarterbacks like Elway, Montana, Mahomes, etc listen to their coaches instructions, why can't a very good quarterback like Dak listen to his?
That goes back to the topic of this thread, would the head coach tell those quarterbacks to do a throwaway, or would they trust their quarterbacks. Would Andy Read tell Mahomes to do, especially when he knows that Mahomes is the kind of player that can make something happen? Those quarterback you listed also had great head coaches and play callers. What if Montana was in a situation where Jason Garrett was his play caller, and he knew that Jason Garrett wasn't the best at his job? Who would blame Montana if he ignore the play call and went for the win? And in today's NFL, that is allowed in general, anyway.
Its obvious you're not watching Cowboys games because Dak has yelled "kill, kill, kill" on multiple occasions, that means he's audible before. Again, in sports, you play the high percentage situations, not always the riskier route.
I'm not making the claim that Dak can't make a change. I called people marks in an earlier thread, for buying into what Shoddy had said so willingly.
All great quarterbacks don't just take the high risk roads. They do play smart and take the higher percentage angles. You wouldn't understand because its obvious where your mindset is.
The criticism of Dak is not that he gambles but he plays too conservatively at times. High Risk road doesn't even factor into the equation here, because no thought was given, since the throw was always going to be a throw away. If that was the game plan, then he still could've ate a bit of time off the clock before doing so. I okay quarterback might do that, granted. If he is anything as good as some claim on here, he should've read the field, IMO. I don't think the pressure was high on him. That was a non sense argument made by someone else that the ref would've thrown a flag had he not thrown it away.
Great coaches and great quarterbacks set themselves up for game tying fgs or TDs all the time, but you want to paint this pick as if Dak is the only quarterback who shouldn't have.
So you saying there was a great coach and a great quarterback in this game that was setting up the game tying fg in this game? Seriously?
There's a reason why Dak is a successful NFL veteran quarterback at the highest level and you're not. You couldn't do what Dak does. So its a little odd questioning the moves of someone that you've never been or will ever be capable of doing.
Now it is time for the personal insults I see. I could've lost that game just as well as Dak did. Dak is a successful veteran quarterback is opinion and not fact depending on how low or high your standards are. Also someone mention "this isn't Madden" somewhere earlier, which begs the question, what did Madden like to say when you have that much time on the clock on a 3rd down? He'd say you have one more shot at the endzone.
