Leary to have MRI on knee, Needs Scoped out 2-6 weeks

If a mid to late round projection is highly regarded, then yes...he was.

Jerry gave him a big signing bonus for a reason. Lots of teams were interested. Still don't know why he didn't grab him in the seventh round and save that money.

Well there goes my hope for the line. How did this happen? Damn just what we needed.

The NFL did away with big bonuses. He actually just got his salary guaranteed. He got it even on the practice squad. Kind of like a 54th player and a shrewed move by the GM.

Wait I'm confused....was it on his right or left knee? Can some1 clarify?

Per ESPN (Todd Archer)

"Ronald Leary will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Friday, continuing a summer long issue for the Dallas Cowboys' offensive line."

Per Dallascowboys.com (Nick Eatman)

"Second-year pro Ron Leary is expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Friday, a procedure that will put his chances of playing the Sept. 8 opener against the Giants at AT&T Stadium in jeopardy."

It's the opposite knee of the one he has the disorder on. I think the right knee.

You seriously lost your hope for the line when you heard one player might miss a game to get his knee scoped?

I was exaggerating first if all. But I'm not as positive about the line play. We now have a hole on the left side. We don't know if Leary will be back for the giants and if he is how will he look missing all these reps and preseason games?

Yeah, it's not the end of the world. I can understand why people are upset. We want to go into the season healthy against our division rivals. But if Leary misses one or two games, it's not the end of the world. We should still get Waters. That hasn't been affected by the Leary injury. Waters will give us a good starting OL and quality depth. I'd rather plug Bern or Livings in place of Leary instead of Arkin.

I listen to talkin cowboys and those guys made a point to check it out and they say it's the right knee and the one that is considered healthy.

This team is just a constant stream of depressing news. *sigh*

It's unbelievably frustrating. This is the second year in a row where we've been down at least 3 of our 5 top OGs. Livings, again. Mack, until recently. Kowalski, who I'd really like to see, again. And, now, when he's playing really well, Leary. I totally get why people are frustrated.

That said, by game 1, we'll probably have Leary back. We'll possibly have Waters on the roster. And there's a chance both Livings and Kowalski are back. We'll have two starting-capable OGs, and, even if we didn't, we could slide Frederick over for a game and play Costa and still be far ahead of where we were at the start of last season, when we came out and manhandled this same Giants team. It's frustrating that we can't keep any consistency going on the OLs in training camp. If anything, the DL issues are more concerning to me. That said, this is a relatively short term problem and not grounds for throwing ourselves off of bridges.

Ha. So, the guy's healthy knee is a little sore, and yet posters have begun to espouse about his (misunderstood) knee condition and predict microfracture surgery. Good stuff.

Leary to undergo knee surgery, could miss season opener

The Dallas Cowboys’ injury woes along the offensive line just got worse with the news from the team’s web site Wednesday night that left guard Ron Leary will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday.

I think we're nervous about the availability of a promising young guard.

Is he really promising, or are we just so eager to have a good OL that we anoint these guys before we really have a clue. Same exact thing with Johnson, Parnell, etc.etc.etc. How is a guy with a degenerative disease in his knees that promising to begin with? He makes a few decent blocks in a preseason game and all of a sudden we have the next Larry Allen..C'mon..

Against the Giants and it's a division game. That's a pretty big deal in my opinion.

Yes, he's promising. He's not proven, he's promising.

Mine, too.

It didn't cause me to lose all hope, though. Plus, Leary very well might play against the Giants.

Ditto on that. They're going to have to do some juggling and hard decision making, deciding how to deal with a maybe-soon-to-be-healthy Livings, a now-a-few-weeks-away Leary, a healthy-as-a-horse-but-not-so-strong Arkin, a who-the-heck-knows-when-or-if-or-how-good Kowalski, a maybe-signing-but-not-sure-when-he-shakes-the-rust-off Waters, a he-can-play-guard-but-please-put-him-at-center Frederick, a he's-now-our-only-stability Bernardeau, and a final cutdown date in late August. Oy.

It's good we have options. :)
