he may be in shape, but game shape is a bit more. i suspect he won't play this week not just because of conditioning but also may need a couple of days to learn the system i would think. but should be a nice addition for the season. the future i don't know but for this year it has to help

But we were not counting on Bernie starting. From all reports we've heard is that Leary was healthy and ready to go and Free has looked good. But we haven't heard much on the Parnell front and I'm wondering if that's why.

The whole "Free to Guard, Parnell at Tackle" experiment was a contingency plan. Garrett said as much when he said that it was "something they needed to look at". They never actually came out and said that was their plan to do that during the regular season. This was basically done just in case Leary wasn't good to go week one. I don't think Parnell was as good at T as Free has been this year, so moving Free inside would downgrade the RT position. With everyone healthy, Free, Bern, Franklin,Leary, Smith were the best 5 guys. So in a way, we were counting on Bern starting...That said, Bern was the weak link in that 5. Pushing him to a backup role for Waters is a big plus.

Ray Donaldson was 37 when we signed him in 1995. His two years here were awesome. Here's to lightning striking twice.

I suspect if anyone can still play, a guy only 1 year removed from being in the Pro Bowl at the ripe old age of 34, Waters can.

When Dallas last won the Super Bowl (1995 season) they had three offensive linemen in Waters' age group- Ray Donaldson, Mark Tuinei, and Nate Newton. And I recall that worked out rather well.

@dfwticket: COWBOYS NEWS: Reports this afternoon that the team has come to terms with 6 time Pro Bowl offensive lineman Brian Waters.

Seems legit. So pumped they finally signed him. Hopefully he can play Sunday. If not week 2 is good enough

AHH. "Come to terms" is not the same as "signed" I wonder if we wait until after the Giants game. Part of the "terms" might be the Cowboys saying "Ok, we will give you the $$ you want, but we don't want to guarantee it in case you stink. The danger in bringing him in before week one is that as a vested vet, his full salary is locked in. If we wait a week, then it's not.

Well, we'll find out soon enough. :) If it seems to drag on before the offical "signed" announcement come out, we'll know that was probably the compromise.

Bern won't be going anywhere.

He'll be the #1 reserve guard.
