Did anyone ever get an explanation on to why they penalized him? I would hope "Throwing up the X" wasn't the case, because they didn't call that in KC.

He did the throat slash move after the X.

The throat slash move is a no no and he should know better.

He was called when he made a slashing motion across his neck. Personally I think that was a bit ticky tacky on the refs but bottom line don't do that after a TD

Throat slashing gesture was unnecessary, Dez should know better than that.

I don't think it should be a penalty but it is and I was hoping he did it so quick that nobody saw it.

It didn't cost them anything though as the Rams were flagged for holding on the kick return.

That rule is stupid. Its not like he is making the move as a malicious action but instead using it to refer to the situation as being over. People in the sports world make that gesture all the time and the fact that it is penalized as if he is referring to an actual throat slit is ridiculous.

But all in all a rule is a rule and he should know not to do that.

They where speaking to Dez when he came off the field and he was shaking his head like, yeah I know I screwed up.

I agree but I hope he and others are on the team to be smart enough not to do it. It cost you 15 so don't do it. I'm not getting on Dez over this but if he was unsure before about making the slashing motion he knows now.

NFL has specifically banned throat slash gesture for years now. Bryant should know better. Coaches should make sure he knows better.

Agreed. I saw him make the X but I missed him doing the throat slash gesture. The audio from the penalty clearly said it was for making the throat slash gesture.

Dumb penalty by Dez, but did you notice what happened next? Bailey's kickoff travelled 75 yards! Then, with the ensuing penalty, the outcome was basically a touchback.

That was a critical part of the game.

It seemed more like when people say "it's over, that's a wrap" gesture to me more than a throat slash. But i'm sure the refs couldnt tell what it was....

Exactly. There is a world of difference between what he did, and an actual throat slash gesture.
