Tanner was one of the many people that I couldn't understand their roster spot initially. He's hyped up as this important bruising type/ST RB that provides insurance in case of injury. I stated before the season, the only way he would see the field is if we had 2-3 injuries at RB. Now that that has happened, he still can't see the field over a guy thats only been active 2 weeks. The staff completely leapfrogged him for our 4th string RB. Again I ask, why is he even on the team if his ST play is average and can't even play over a 4th string RB?

We were and are better off going with 3 RBs and heavy at another position, than going with 4 RB! EVen with the injuries to Murray and Dunbar, a vet RB is a better option than TAnner. Randle can't learn anything from him and Randle needs a vet presence like Waters in the backfield that he can lean on. Jerry need to go ahead and trim the fat with Tanner.

Same with James Hanna at TE. Horrible blocker, does nothing in the passing game. Yet he starts.

The Cowboys have multiple players that are basically Special Teams only types. Tanner is one of them.

Tanner did come in and run for a 1st down on 3rd and 1.

I would argue that Randle is useless.... He plays but hurts us more than he helps. I think Phillip Tanner is a better RB and I also think he would have gotten more yardage vs Commanders.

Yea and it was a BIG 3rd and 1. I'm not much of a Tanner fan but I don't get why he has a thread dedicated to him.

What? Randle doesn't even play lol. Aside from yesterday when has he got significant snaps? Its been Demarco for the majority of the season.

+1, i mean come on the guy hasn't had a chance to be labeled useless yet.

But he had that run without his helmet in preseason two years ago--he must be like Witten (or so Jerry thought when he announced Tanner had made the 53 man roster weeks before cut downs).

I agree, this thread is useless. I mean, we just lost our starter and somehow our fan base thinks it's a smart idea to throw the backup RB under the bus before he's even had a chance to get any real playing time.

Nice plan.

Ah, the Monday after a big, divisional win in CZ. Nice thread, OP. Things were getting a bit too enthusiastic in here, so it was about time for an "our 4th string RB is useless because we wanted to see Randle in an actual game" take.

I totally disagree with this. I actually think Tanner should be our closer, in the mold of Barber. Straight ahead power runner. Nothing pretty, but effective.

Great idea though, two RB's now out and you want to get rid of another?

making threads about our 3rd rb are we ?

Unfortunately this is how some of our fan base "copes" with a nice win.

Poor Phil hasn't even had a real chance to fill in for Murray and he's already getting thrown under the bus. Awesome.

How do we know if he is useless? He hasn't been used much as a RB this year. The player need to be used before hand in order for a player to be deemed useless.

It was his first time in real action.

Pssst....With Dunbar out, we are only going with 3 RBs

How is he useless? He got his first substantial playing time last night, and now with our featured and second back down, he's pretty damn integral. Also, how did this turn into a bash Hanna thread? I'd take Hanna over Escobar any day
