Well, to be honest, there is probably more chance of that Happening then Briles to Texas IMO. If what you suggest did happen, Gingie would be a pretty good fit at Texas. No kidding. He is exactly what the Texas folks would look for in a HC.

Just saying.
Wow... Wow. ABQ, I don't understand this. You seriously think they'd rather have Jason Garrett than Briles? Because -- I can only assume -- he's more "polished"? That's total insanity. I would think Texas fans would have to hope you're wrong about that.

Absolutely. I'm telling you, Briles is not the guy for Texas. Has nothing at all to do with football. Has everything to do with the politics at Texas.

They can hope all they want but it won't change it. Besides, Texas fans don't really love Briles either. Briles, IMO, is not the guy for Texas but I guess we'll see.

Not sure how to put this softly but if Texas is picking a head coach based on fans they are stupid.

Fan bases are fickle beasts that change opinions after every game.

See issue with Mack: He should be fired at season's end.
What if they go undefeated in conf play, win the big 12 and win a lower tier BCS game?
Then he CERTAINLY deserves to be fired then.
Because UT had the talent to go undefeated and play for a national title but lost to a couple mediocre teams.

Mack not being able to consistently meet the expectations this past 5 years is why he should be fired. And nothing he does this year can change that because he already has 2 losses.

UT would be VERY smart to grab Briles because they pull in a recruiting machine that is already well-oiled.
He'd probably take 3 or 4 kids already committed to Baylor with him.
It is a double win because they get in a Coach who can install the type of offense kids love to play and they severely weaken a conference foe.

Briles has 20 years of top offenses on his resume. He's as proven as you'll get and he recruits Texas with anyone. Plus he is a Texas guy, having lived here his entire life. A younger guy would be looking at NFL jobs if he won at UT but Briles is merely looking for a chance to win National Titles and complete his legacy.

Put it any way you want but that's the way it is. I don't even know why you are posting this JT because you know good and well that Texas has certain political issues where HCs are concerned. You don't have to like it. It is what it is and I don't see Texas picking up Briles ever.

That is a different beast.
That isn't an issue so much fans as it is with insanely rich boosters.
That's more reasonable because guys giving 5-10m a year have a say of some sort to be sure.

I agree the booster thing is an issue and probably just mistook your "fan" comment to mean the average joe on the street.

But if Hicks and his buddy have already been feeling out Saban as of last year I doubt Mack is as safe with big money as is assumed.
One thing about those good-ole boys is they are not afraid to pull the trigger but they often hold their water until they do.

Yeah, I don't think this will be a quick decision. I think Texas will look to fill the AD position first. Then, once that is done, they will get serious about what they will do with a HC. I am not sure this is the right approach as good talent usually gets signed early but we'll see.

Saban is the only marque veteran coach in this thread that UT has even considered to date.
Friends of mine well connected within UT say he is the only one their regents' ego feel would suffice to make the intended splash.

They also are likely to hire Oliver Luck it appears, and have been in talks with him.

I don't think this is the case but I do think that he is on a pretty short list right now and he's probably at the top of that list. I think there are some very high profile coaches that they are considering but they will not make that public because they either have existing commitments or circumstances that might make it easier to keep silent on till the actual decision comes closer. I think that Saban is probably the only guy that Texas would hire regardless of the AD situation being figured out or not. Any other decision, Texas would probably want the input of the new AD. That's just my gut feeling on this.

BTW, how are you doing today Aikbach? You guys going to be able to get by OU? Need you guys to be unbeaten at the end of the year.

The goal is to win the big 12, win out and let the chips fall where they may for a shot at the national title. Thus rooting for an FSU and Oregon stumble, if Baylor wins out they'll leap over Ohio St. no matter what due to strength of schedule, but it would stink to finish 4 or 3 in the BCS after a brilliant and rather dominant season.

But to answer your Ou question, I think emotion and talent favors Baylor, the university has done a tremendous job promoting the game, already 6,500 student tickets of a student body of 14k were taken from the allotted amount as of Tuesday, a line out the door and around the corner.

Popular demand even had the infamous tarp removed to make the benchless concrete steps in the South endzone available for standing room only seating.

A sell out crowd of 55k is expected, 90 percent likely to be Baylor, which is huge considering OU travels decently.

The university has repeatedly sold out of black shirts too, being printed at cost to distribute for a "black out" for the stands, freshmen will receive free ones, Baylor unveils a matte black Nike uniforms for the occasion.

Yeah, I expect Floyd Casey to be unusually rowdy. I'm driving up to Waco tomorrow morning to get my tickets from will call, had a friend who is an assistant track coach with Baylor stand in line at the bookstore and buy me a black Baylor football t-shirt, so i'm going to get that from him.

By far the most hyped contest Baylor has played in memory, Baylor has played and beaten higher ranked and regarded opponents, but not in 20 year has Baylor been the one with so much on the line.

Word just in from AD Ian McCaw that ALL student tickets have been disbursed, 10,500 in all out of an undergrad student body of 12,785. That formerly tarped endzone will now be full of thousands of screaming kids and probably a noise liability for OU.

Maybe Brown has out lived his stay, but that man deserves a statue more than a beating for what he has done over his tenure for the overall athletic program at Texas.

Sure, time to move on. But some of you forget what things were like pre-Mack.
I know you're kidding, but that is disrespecting a good person.

Really? Two Big 12 championships in, what, 15 years? I'd expect any decent coach to be able to do that at the University of Texas.

http://espn.go.com/college-football...an-alabama-crimson-tide-coach-facing-pressure

AUSTIN, Texas -- The agent for coach Nick Saban told Texas officials in January that Texas was the only school he would consider leaving Alabama for, and his success with the Crimson Tide had put him under "special pressure," The Associated Press has learned.

The agent, Jimmy Sexton, made the comments during a 45-minute call with former Texas Regent Tom Hicks and current Regent Wallace Hall. Hicks detailed the call in a Sept. 24 email that was obtained Tuesday by the AP through an open-records request.

"Sexton confirmed that UT is the only job Nick would possibly consider leaving Alabama for, and that his success there created special pressure for him," Hicks wrote.

I don't think Brown is going anywhere soon. Call me crazy but I think Texas has a chance to win the big 12. :)
