The Core of this Team is Done

And those two need to go as well especially Romo.

I'm a Romo-lover but watching him this season has been painful because I've come to the realization that his best days are behind him.

It sucks but if you can't see that because you want to hang onto his 4th qtr comeback wins, or all time passer ratings then by all means keeping pushing those stats. At the end of the day there are the ones that get it done and the ones that go home empty-handed...

Well, we have no viable options behind him. I think he is still better than 15-20 QBs starting right now, and I don't think I am crazy for thinking that. His contract was a joke, but what's done is done.

Where do you think we would be now if we had hired Harbaugh instead of JG? Same players, different HC.

I honestly believe we'd be in the same boat where Witten draws a holding call because he can't block, Ware tries to fish hook his way to a sack and loses his contain discipline, or Romo audibles into a pass play that goes incomplete or gains 1-2 yds.

49ers went 7-9, 8-8 and 6-10 three seasons before Harbaugh got there. He took them to the NFC championship game in his first season with pretty much the same players and then to the SB his second year.

I believe Harbaugh would have done a ton better than JG.

Romo, Witten and Ware represent the "core" of this team. Sean Lee, Tyron Smith and Dez Bryant aren't the core of this team.
The core are the guys who were here during the Parcell years who are considered leaders and who we were counting on to produce similar results like in 2007, minus, of course, the first-round playoff exit against the Giants. :(

You want those guys to be the core. When you hear about guys who are leaders in that locker room and who guys run behind it isn't WAre or Witten or Romo. Its Sean Lee, Dez, Brandon Carr and Hatcher.

I can't believe peolple are blaming Romo, he played like crap tonight but our defense set all kind of negative records, the problem here is Garrett, he should be fired.

I don't think the majority is blaming Romo. I think we recognize that Romo just isn't going to be able to do it himself and has become a victim of the culture. I think Romo is a very good quarterback, but he hasn't been handled right throughout his career and now he is what he is - a very good quarterback who is scared to pull the trigger because of the immense criticize he'll get if he makes a mistake and a quarterback who just isn't going to get it done unless the entire team comes to play. But that (the entire team coming to play) aint happening. So Romo is destined to wallow in mediocrity while he's here.

Jerry is going to view him as The Savior of this franchise, ignoring the culture around him. So he's going to continue to bring in one piece at a time, ignoring the fact that Romo is getting older and more gunshy. Sometimes, people become what they're culture shapes them to become. There are many talented people who never take the next step because they become absorbed in their culture. This happens in life in general. It should come as no surprise that this occurs in football too.

The best thing that could happen to a talented player is to go to a team with a stable culture. You sit Romo behind Favre like Rodgers sat, and I believe you have a different quarterback. You put Matt Flynn behind Rodgers in that system and look what you get. You take Matt Flynn out of that system into another culture and you get a back up.

Where you play and the culture you play in heavily impacts the player/the person you become.

Man, you've got to be kidding, you're basically saying two things:

1- Coaching doesn't matter
2- garrett is as good as Harbaugh

That's ridiculous.

I agree with you, I would've loved to see Romo with a good HC and GM.

Coaching matters but talent is more important

Dez, TWILL, T Smith, Frederick, Lee..."sometimes". Damn, thought I could get to 5 easily, sad...

I would throw Scandrick, Selvie, Harris, Beasley and surprisingly Doug Free in their. Everyone else - oh well either way

Edit - And Bailey

ugh no i can't join you there clove. i'm tired of the "romo friendly" crap. why does everything around him have to be perfect for this team to be successful? he has been bad for a month now. errant throws everywhere. i'm just over him and the rest of this core. i've been over them. it's why i hated the extension. with the qbs coming out in the '14 draft, we should have let romo play out his contract then make a decision at the end of this season. instead we invested 20% of our future cap on a noodle arm qb who is hearing footsteps on every other play. things are going to get very ugly around here the next few years. i'm talking campo bad.
Do you realize how ugly it would be with a rookie QB?

This team doesn't win 5 games all year without Romo....and you could say that for like the last decade..

Of course talent matters and we do have it, we just don' have a good HC, try telling that to KC, SF, Chi, NO, AZ, Sea, Cle, NYJ etc..

Bailey, Harris, Selvie, Beastley, but Free is way too mentally erratic, might as well clean ship if it is blown up but agree he has played well this season surprisingly.

you think i care? man up and take your growing pains. 5 wins at least gets me a high draft pick so we can possibly build our team with high picks like SF. what exactly would i be missing by going this route? the roller coaster 8-8 season to nowhere?

wow this is a depressing thread. we are seeing the end of this great core of players.
