Jason Garrett says Dallas 'did some good things' in Chicago

They have had consistency on offense and it is stuck in neutral. I agree about the defense, find a scheme and build around it but they don't. They draft players that don't fit in the scheme or they do fit and change the system shortly thereafter.

No excuse for the offense, it has not changed for the most part and it still sucks.

Gruden was a very good offensive coordinator and he kept Callahan from going crazy with the pass. The offense is all on Jason Garret more so than Callahan. As a matter of fact Callahan has gotten the run game going lately, but he cannot run his WCO because Garret won't let him. That is why I would keep Callahan with Gruden as the head coach and keep the D coordinators as well.

this way of thinking is a HUGE HUGE part of the problem

you cant bring in a HC and tell him who his assistants are

bring in a competent young HC and let him hire his staff

i know it is a novel concept but 31 other NFL teams do it
i guarantee you that ALL SB winners in the last 10 years have done it this way

why would we want to do something that has proven to be successful, you might ask

that, i have no answer to

Gruden and Lovie have worked with this staff before and would most likely want to keep them. Now if Gruden and Lovie want someone else so be it. Let the HC choose their staff. I agree but asking Gruden and Lovie to come to Dallas would appeal to them because this staff was together down in Tampa Bay.

I think the Cowboys had every intention of running Murray into the ground last night. But it seemed almost in the blink of an eye, they went from being tied 7-7 to 24-14, then 27-14, then... sigh

But yes, it was nice to Murray dust off his wheels for a night.

Agreed on all counts.

And a bummer for me as the guy I was playing in my fantasy football playoffs had both Murray and Forte (so you can guess how that worked out for me!)

But I loved seeing more of Murray and the running game just the same.

And a defense this historically bad makes game-planning impossible.

I want to dump Kiffin and go back to the 3-4. The idea of getting torched on D until we manage to come up with a disruptive pass rush just doesn't sound appealing.

We still have the 3-4 players.

I agree.

I think the quicker road to a turn-around is to go back to what your players are better suited for.

Which I feel is the 3-4.

Wade had success behind what Parcells built. He steadily got worse with each passing season.

Exactly right.

We needed more years of Parcells. Or at least the lunatic owner recognizing how it was working and finding the best replacement for him who would also command his own locker room.

Instead we got Wade Phillips.

Prophetic.

i dont want either

gruden is just chuckie face and a sound bite and won nothing except with someone elses team
lovie, i see as a retread of garrett

tired of yes-men

We did some good things well. Well, one thing. Running the ball. Too bad our genius head coach we have got away from that as always. Once something starts working, he tries to get cute and try other stuff. Same as when we got to the goal line on the first drive. We pass 1st and 2nd down. Yes we scored to Dez on 2nd down but it was horrible play calling.

Even down 10-13, you keep running the ball. Keep this defense off the field.

Other than that, we did nothing well. Romo had many bad passes. Drops. Kind of becoming a trend.

Garrett does not seem to have a clue on how to "fix or improve" the Cowboys, so the next best thing for him is to keep a positive attitude and sell Jerruh on "his process". He is hoping Jerruh does not put things together and fire him...so he continues with the positive BS.

Unfortunately key players are getting old, some young guys not performing, and coaching is less than average. Too many things to overcome. And for the fans, another year of disappointment.

They're both doing it, Garrett, and Jones himself with gems like today "there's nobody I'd rather have than Monte Kiffin".

Maybe if you tell enough lies, you'll actually believe it yourselves 'ey boys?

Cause we the fans sure don't.

That was my whole point, the offense is Garrett's.....has been since he got here. He has some really good players there that stay healthy for the most part. The offense should be a lot better than it is. It is time to scrap it.

WHERE DID THIS ARTICLE GO????!!!! Agghh. Stupid 24-hour news cycle.

Wade Phillips had a 13 win season, an 11 win season in which he won a playoff game, and a 9 win season, in which romo missed 3 games, compared to what is going on right now, wade isn't looking too bad.

Wade Phillips took over Parcells core that was just entering it's prime.

You have to actually understand what was going on. You can't just look at numbers.

the thing is that the Bears didn't stop Murray, Garrett went to the pass even when Murray was gashing them, and the Bears got a sack and stopped the Cowboys. The Bears went on to score on every possession, and I guess we could have kept running, but didn't. Garrett doesn't seem to know that if something is working, stay with it. He gets antsy and wants to pass when it is not necessary.

The "abandoning the running game" statement is a pile of BS. Aside from the possession in that two-minutes before the half, Dallas did not get away from the running game until the Bears went up 35-14 with 2:20 remaining in the 3rd quarter.

And in that two-minute possession, you're not going to run the ball if you want to score. The Bears were up 3, and they were to get the ball to begin the 2nd half. What's more, the defense hadn't stopped Chicago all night, so it had already become a case of needing to match them score-for-score. The defense once again couldn't make a stop, and the Bears go in to the half up 10. They take the opening kickoff of the 3rd and make it 27-14. On Dallas' next possession, it's a 3 and out, but not because of abandoning the run. Two runs and an incomplete pass. The Bears extend the lead to 35-14 and THEN Garrett decides to abandon the run game, and rightly so.

"Getting away from the run game" didn't happen until it was absolutely necessary, and it damn sure didn't contribute to the loss.

What a frightening quote. I know Jerry is just to support his boneheaded hire, but what he's basically saying there is if he could pick any coach in the world, he would take Monte Kiffin right now to coach this defense.

Scary.

So did Parcells inherit Campo's players as they were entering their prime, too? Parcells went to the playoffs his first year here, with Campo players. So if you're going to credit Parcells for Wade's success, lets credit Campo for Parcells' success. The thing is that Campo couldn't win with the players he had and Parcells did, and Parcells couldn't win with the players he had, but Wade did.

Wow.

It's no wonder why these fans continue to tell Jerry thank you, may I have another.

Yes. Wade Phillips won with players Bill Parcells couldn't. Something like that.

Parcells did a great job of stockpiling talent, but he did a lousy job of coaching that talent. People can use whatever excuses they want to try to bash wade phillips, but he won games, something that no one else has been able to do here in years.
