Jason Garrett says Dallas 'did some good things' in Chicago

I think it should be pointed out that what Garrett is doing is pretty common out in the real world. In order to get employees to improve, management usually doesn't just call them in and tell them they are worthless. They let them know what they are doing right, then place emphasis on the areas that will require improvement.

When he is talking to the press, his employees can hear everything he says, so he is just being consistent.

They had success, I think the media and fans were to rash, but okay, so we are here now, the question still remains as the other poster put it, what coach would want to come here, and how much power would he have?

I still think Gruden would be a perfect fit here. He's got skins on the wall so Jerry would respect his methods and opinions. He would not want total control. He knows how to work with an Owner/GM like Jerry. He's a balance between tough and cupcake. And I have said this numerous times before, Romo would really thrive in a West Coast offense. Plus they can keep the tampa 2 scheme.
The key is would Jerry give Gruden the time to properly re-tool for it to work.

I was very disappointed in Garrett press conference where he said they did some good things but would not talk about how bad the defense was...yet again. Just said they need to make adjustments...again. Our defense is laughable and a disgrace.

And maybe this is what you were referring to, but he specifically said the offense was doing some good things but then the Bears got a stop and scored and the game got out of hand. In other words, blaming the defense. In other other words, protecting his side of the ball and thus his own hide. Typical.

"We didn't do enough offensively to win the game," coach Jason Garrett said. "We understand that. When you play a game like this when you have to match them you have to match em. You have to convert third downs and keep drives alive. It became one of those games we had to match serve every time. We werent able to do that and the game got out of hand. We didn't play well enough tonight."

Personally, the only thing that looked decent in the game was the run game. If only it wasn't against such a porous run defense that you could look to it as a sign of more to come.

Not when you can't keep the game close defensively.

As soon as they're down enough points, the run game goes out the window.

Until the game is out of hand, and then it comes back.

On a bright note, it was nice to see DeMarco Murray get off that milk carton, wasn't it?

I think that's a great question.

I think that many of us were pleasantly surprised and amazed when Parcells took the job.

A strong-minded, disciplined coach with great accomplishments and skins on the wall.

But, before and after him, and between Jimmy Johnson's departure and his arrival, none of them have looked very good.

And at this point, between the team's obvious issues, on-field and off, and the most meddling owner in sports, I don't see how any quality coach who's not desperate would come here.

This is the argument that many have used to defend retention of JG. I personally would like the Cowboys to roll the dice again as soon as possible.

So the argument is that we can't get any good coaches to come here, so we keep this guy, who's clearly in completely over his head?

You may as well turn the lights out now...

I think the Cowboys had every intention of running Murray into the ground last night. But it seemed almost in the blink of an eye, they went from being tied 7-7 to 24-14, then 27-14, then... sigh

But yes, it was nice to Murray dust off his wheels for a night.

Blowing up the coaching staff is not a good idea. I really hate Garrett and thought he has made some dumb decisions but Jones should not fire Kiffin or Callahan. They have been coaches for a very long time and know what they are doing. I would bring in Gruden or Lovie Smith as they would keep the current assistants in place. Dallas cannot change systems after every disappointing season. The players need consistency.

I want to dump Kiffin and go back to the 3-4. The idea of getting torched on D until we manage to come up with a disruptive pass rush just doesn't sound appealing.

We still have the 3-4 players.

They have had consistency on offense and it is stuck in neutral. I agree about the defense, find a scheme and build around it but they don't. They draft players that don't fit in the scheme or they do fit and change the system shortly thereafter.

No excuse for the offense, it has not changed for the most part and it still sucks.

this way of thinking is a HUGE HUGE part of the problem

you cant bring in a HC and tell him who his assistants are

bring in a competent young HC and let him hire his staff

i know it is a novel concept but 31 other NFL teams do it
i guarantee you that ALL SB winners in the last 10 years have done it this way

why would we want to do something that has proven to be successful, you might ask

that, i have no answer to
