Jimmy Johnson doesn't see how the Cowboys' hiring of the pass-happy Scott Linehan helps run game

Don't put former Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson down as a fan of the Cowboys' expected decision to add Scott Linehan as passing game coordinator and play caller.

Johnson said Linehan's history as a pass happy play caller does nothing to help a Cowboys team that already has a problem with a lack of commitment to the run. The Cowboys finished 31st in the league in rushing attempts last season one year after setting a team record for fewest attempts in a season.

"The only thing that concerns me is Linehan is not known for being a guy that’s going to run the football," Johnson said at Super Bowl media day Tuesday. "That’s kind of been a little bit of a problem with the Cowboys in the past that they’ve got a great running back in DeMarco Murray and, I mean, I don’t know. Are they going to run the ball more or less? Who can tell? We’ll only know a year from now. But it does concern you a little bit."

I stopped listening to Jimster a while back.

Besides, Jimmy is a defensive coach.

What's he worried about.

Listen..

until DeMarco Murray finally finished as season healthy..

his first in like 4 years..

nobody in Dallas trusted this OL to block.

So the only thing to do was ride Romo's arm..Witten's and Dez' legs..

..and hope things worked out.

Now..Murray has made the Pro Bowl and he's established he can do it.

Of course..it helps the team has committed it's last two #1draft picks at tackle and center to open holes to run thru.

So before we all get convinced the play callers won't run it..

Let's see.

I agree. Defensive coaches aren't likely aware of the reputations that offensive coaches have built throughout the league so Jimmy really doesn't have a leg to stand on here.

He called Murray a great running back. I'm glad he's finally getting accolades. Here's to a healthy Demarco for 2014-15.

I would still be scared to draft Murray very high in my FF draft next fall.

Hahahaha

of course not.

Glad we agree for once.

Jimmy hasn't coached in the NFL in almost 20 years.

One day, we'll move on and realize he's nothing but a TV pundit.

I would trust Jimmy and his style of football over 95% of the current coaches. Jimmy was nothing fancy, but he didn't need to be. Tough, physical football wins in any era. Having players motivated to keep their job insures maximum effort. By all means, let's support the current staff that coaches a soft , finesse type of football. These 8-8 seasons are really something to be proud of. Yeah, I will say it , Jimmy would do better.

Being Pass Happy was not the problem, it was the lack of execution and creativity that killed us.

"Yes, let's line up Dez over there by himself, let them double him, while we rely on the likes of Williams and Austin to beat the other guys, and witten on 3 yard out routes"

He has coached well within 20 years.

Why are Jimmy's revelations so threatening? Could it have had something to do with A Football Life about a year ago when Jimmy laid waste to the concept of all coaches having equal control over football operations under Jerry? Perhaps Jimmy was, is, wrong and Jason controls the team's destiny just like Johnson did two decades ago?
