It's going to be one of these three at #16

After reading and thinking myself silly (I'm such a dork when it comes to the draft this time of year), I feel like I've got a pretty good handle on what's going to happen at #16.

A week ago, I was convinced they were trading up. Two weeks ago, I thought they were trading back.

But now, my gut tells me they like where they are because one of three players will be there, and they're just fine with any of the three.

In order of their liking:

1. Aaron Donald. He's the preferred pick, and he's built much the same as La'Roi Glover in style, motor, and body type. He could get to them or go early, depending on potential early surprise picks.

2. Anthony Barr. Kind of a scary pick because he's a bit of a project, but he's the guy who most looks and plays like Demarcus Ware in his style and strengths. That, of course, is a need, too.

3. Zach Martin. A really good lineman who is thought to be a good tackle, and a pro bowl guard. That would further solidify an young, improving offensive lineman, and Jernigan, Easley, or Nix can probably be had in the second round.

One of those three will be there, and if not, that means somebody completely unexpected fell their way. That, or none of the quarterbacks have been taken, which is highly unlikely.

Have you gone through the scenarios about who's expected to be there?

No way Donald gets past Chicago.

The closer and closer the draft gets the more I really want to trade back, even if those guys are there. The only one i've started to come around on is Barr. I might sit there and make the Barr pick.

I will take this bet, none of these 3 will be there and i doubt we trade up.

IMO Donald will either go to the Vikings or drop to us. If the Vikings take Bortles, Donald will be the pick.

One of those three or a trade down seems to be the consensus, I'm not big on Barr due to his size though, he's more of an OLB than a true end...

I agree, but the thought is, if he can't play end, he could be a very good OLB. Frankly, I'd rather have Mosley than him.

They can't all be gone. Actually, if they were, that would mean somebody really good would have to fall, so that could be a good thing.

There's only 15 players before Dallas, and with a couple QBs, some OTs, 2-3 receivers, Clowney, Mack.....one of those three will be there for Dallas at least.

Yeah in a 3-4 he'd be awesome, kind of a waste in a 4-3 though..

I agree with the trading back. However I would not take Barr in the 1st round mid 1st or late 1st. Trade back 8 spots and get Su a filo or Bitonio or Martin if still around. Just don't take the Barr Project. Jerry would want to turn him back into a TE

You do know Chicago doesn't have a starting-caliber safety on its roster.

Couldn't agree more. There GM said about a week ago that they had no safties on the roster and this is a weak safety class vs DT class. I think they take Ha Ha or Pryor.

Barr none...Donald is the best defensive lineman in this class.

And kareem Martin will be a better DE than Barr and we can find him in the 4th round

1st, Kareem Martin may be better against the run, but he will never be the pass rusher Barr is. And I like Martin.

2nd, theres a good chance Kareem Martin doesn't make it to our 3rd pick. He's not a realistic option for the 4th round

I don't see how he gets past NY or certainly not the Bears. Donald is the one of these 3 that I think we can forget about being there. With some luck Barr makes it to us. If he is there we need to take him, if not I am ok with a trade down as long as we don't get screwed in a trade again. Martin is a good player, and if we take him because Barr and Donald are gone, I can live with it. I just think you can get a good lineman in the 2nd if you are so inclined that would not be that far off from him.

I tend to agree on these three players.

Though Barr's upside is more Jason-Taylor and less Demarcus-Ware in my book.

I think the Barr/Donald/Martin trio is well documented as the target group. For the record, Barr is #1 on that list according to multiple sources (Broaddus, Fisher).

The real questions are:
1) Are we willing to move up to secure one of them?
2) If all 3 are gone, who is the preferred "fallback" option (i.e., Beckham, Shazier, any of the S's, Mosley)
