It's going to be one of these three at #16

Don't agree with this. I think he's there at 16.

I left him off my list on Risen's thread about predicting the draft class, because I thought there was no way he'd be there, and I don't really care to see us trade up too much to get him. I will be very happy to be proven wrong.

I said that Donald won't even make it to Chicago (ie. he will be drafted before Chicago gets on the board).

By whom? Minnesota maybe, but they took Floyd last year. The other teams need other things. Maybe New York, but they need offensive linemen badly.

If Donald and Barr are there...they are probably taking Barr.

If Barr and Martin, Pryor, Shazier, Dix and pretty much anyone else who has a shot is sitting there...they probably take Barr.

They don't take Barr if Barr is not there or if he is there they get a trade down option that is just too good to pass up on.

So you better hope Barr is gone or they get a great trade off...otherwise get ready to be upset.

Totally disagree. I feel that the scouts wont put a first round grade on Barr. With an abundance of potential starters like Dee Ford, Shazier, Murphey, Attachou, Van noy, Critchen Lawrance, MSmith, CSmith, Tuitt, just to name a few pressure rushers from the outside Dallas will "wait" on any 1st round DE

Using fanspeak to do a mock draft is like driving a go-kart and then calling yourself a NASCAR driver. It's incredibly unrealistic and not even close to the real thing.

You should try it. It is fun and maybe you can learn to drive.

First of all, you should know that Dallas wants their safeties to do both...it is why we have so many guys that aren't pure free safeties nor pure strong safeties.
and maybe a reason that they rarely make plays...Church, Heath, Wilcox, Hamlin, Sensabaugh, Watkins, Will Allen, Lynn Scott, Keith Davis, Tony Dixon, Brodney Poole, Beriault, Allan Ball, McCray, etc. With that lineup, Church is definitely upper eschelon

Secondly, blaming Church for last year's safety play is ludicrous. The problems were at the other position, not at his. Not surprising since we had a borderline vet early on, then a rookie that wasn't ready and then a free agent. Funny how you don't have a problem with Wilcox, who easily was the worst starting safety in the league, before getting replaced by Heath for performance, not due to injury.
I never said Church was the whole problem, but he wasn't a stand alone answer in the passing game either. He was hurt by Heath out there. Also, If you watched the games and thought Wilcox was worse then Jeff Heath and saw no differential in potential, I have nothing else.
Church is nowhere near as bad as you are trying to claim.

No NFL QB or OC is looking at the Barry Church vs TE vs RB vs slot receiver crossing routes etc and conditioned to immediately check down. He wasn't targeted as often as Heath (i.e. NO/Brees) because Heath was that bad.

After reading and thinking myself silly (I'm such a dork when it comes to the draft this time of year), I feel like I've got a pretty good handle on what's going to happen at #16.

A week ago, I was convinced they were trading up. Two weeks ago, I thought they were trading back.

But now, my gut tells me they like where they are because one of three players will be there, and they're just fine with any of the three.

In order of their liking:

1. Aaron Donald. He's the preferred pick, and he's built much the same as La'Roi Glover in style, motor, and body type. He could get to them or go early, depending on potential early surprise picks.

2. Anthony Barr. Kind of a scary pick because he's a bit of a project, but he's the guy who most looks and plays like Demarcus Ware in his style and strengths. That, of course, is a need, too.

3. Zach Martin. A really good lineman who is thought to be a good tackle, and a pro bowl guard. That would further solidify an young, improving offensive lineman, and Jernigan, Easley, or Nix can probably be had in the second round.

One of those three will be there, and if not, that means somebody completely unexpected fell their way. That, or none of the quarterbacks have been taken, which is highly unlikely.

I'm with you on this one.

I personally don't think Donald will be there, I think Barr may be...I actually see us trading down to Philly or SF as a real option if beckham is there

I have heard potential landing spots could be NYG and even Minn (regardless of Floyd some are saying as Donald >> Floyd). And if not then Chicago. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE Donald, but most analysts don't see him getting to us anymore. Either way, I will be planted in front of the TV tonight. And will only be angry if we select Ebron or a QB.

not sure if Donald is our target. with melton playing the 1 technique and aaron is similar, we are probably looking to get a 3 technique guy. so I would assume a hegamin or Jernigan is a better target, which begs the question if we would trade down.

I like Barr and I would be estatic if Martin is our pick. although I feel martin is going to go somewhere in the top 12 and one of the other top OTs is going to drop.

I think you are getting your 1 and 3 techs mixed up. :)

Mayock has Donald and Barr there at 16.

I hope we would take Shazier over Martin.

I am the opposite. I think Martin is the better player by a decent margin. I think martin is a top 10-15 talent...I think Shazier is a 20-30 talent.

But that is just my opinion.

Melton plays the 3, but I understand your point. Melton might be close to done in his career with that knee. That's why they gave him such an incentive-laden deal.

And on 3rd and long, you want two smaller guys in there to rush the QB. Can't have enough of these guys.

I think they are both somewhere in the top 18 but this team is in desperate need of toughness and speed on defense.. I think the Cowboys have been pretty successful rebuilding this offensive line and with guys like Trai Turner, Billy Turner, and Gabe Jackson as possible mid round alternatives I think they will have a lot of opportunities to find someone to compete at guard where as the only alternative for Shazier seems to be Telvin Smith who they may not even be interested in and is ranked well below Shazier in my opinion.

I would rather them take one of the Safeties at 16 (and I really don't want one at 16). I would rather reach a tad for Jernigan or D.Lawrence at 16. Just don't like the idea of Shazier or Mosely at 16.

Trade down and take one...sure.

Just don't like it at 16 and I think I would rather take other players that are rated higher or around the same area that fit on the D-Line or S spot if we are sticking to defense.

Frankly sticking to defense no matter what at 16 Is silly IMO because you trap yourself into taking a player like Shazier who is not rated that high.
