That's only because they don't expect Sean Lee who just got a new big contract to get beat out by a rookie 4th round pick. They do think he has the talent to be taken that high. Your argument is ridiculous.

Exactly. You don't draft a guy who's inferior just to have him as a back up. I don't think that's what they're saying at all. Its high praise but they drafted a guy who they believe can come in and play for a injured Sean Lee. That's not a bad move and that's how you should treat the draft. You need depth. You need guys who can potentially be starters one day. When they leave then you may get compensation picks for them. People are trying to paint him as a "special teams" guy which he very well may end up being. But that's not his potential.

I think we're barking up the wrong tree here. Jerry said he drafted Hitchens to play the middle when Sean Lee was hurt. He didn't say Hitchens wouldn't be playing anywhere else on the field while Sean Lee was healthy. What we can read between the lines is that at the time of the draft, Jerry didn't think we had anyone on the roster who could play the middle effectively, which means he was watching the same team I was last year. :) I don't think there is any reason to doubt that if Hitchens can play well enough to win one of the other LB jobs, he will start.

I have him on Ignore, but someone tell Risen that the Giants 3rd round pick Bromley was rated as a 6th rounder. He still has time to educate an entire Tri-State area of Giants fans on his draft prowess!
Bromley went way higher then was projected

And
Jones says Iowa LB Hitchens is insurance for Sean Lee injury, didn't mind using fourth-round pick for backup

Read more here: http://sportsblogs.star-telegram.co...ing-fourth-round-pick-for-.html#storylink=cpy

"We saw a guy who could run with size, and we saw one of the few inside linebackers that we thought could come in here and help us if we lost Sean Lee,” the Cowboys owner said. “So we saw a guy who could definitely improve us from where we were last year when we lost Sean Lee."

That does not mean that he cannot come in and compete. It does not mean that they only see him as a backup. Sorry but you are twisting that quote. This should be obvious from the rest of the quote.

"I think the other thing is that he can play some weak linebacker. He’s obviously got the power and the other thing I can say about him is that he did a good job of dropping back in pass routes. I’m not saying he’s Sean Lee, but he can drop back and get back and as Jason would tell you, we’re going to do a better job of doing that and playing the ball up in front of us. What he did do in his collegiate career is a real good job of getting back and getting in lanes. So that’s what we saw and is just right what we need."

Bromley went way higher then was projected

I posted an article several days ago, Bromley was at a Supermarket when the Giants called to tell him he had been picked. He had zero expectation of being taken on Friday and his agent told him to be prepared to be an UDFA.

And by relating that story, the point is clear: Jerry Sux!!! j/k...

seahawks 1st 2 picks in the 2nd.
1. paul richardson. graded 3rd - 4th round.
2. justin britt. 6th - 7th round.

but hey since they won the superbowl, they can reach and everything will be fine. i mean, it's all depth isn't it?

i hate how the media never calls this out for certain teams.

Right. And that's no excuse for the Cowboys but its reality. People are so stuck on "experts" picks from so called experts who's perception of a player is based on a few highlight clips. I'm sure Seahawks scouts are doing far more than that when they scouted those guys. But for some reason I only hear about us "reaching" for someone.

Exactly. And I hate to say anything negative about the almighty Seattle Seahawks..........people talk about how they found guys like Chancellor, Sherman and Maxwell late in rounds........much props to them for that. Some of the best finds in the NFL. But they have missed on A LOT of draft picks to the point where once Russell Wilson and Sherman take up a lot of their salary cap and they have to let a few guys walk they are going to be in trouble if they don't have better drafts. The way they handle wide receiver in the draft or even free agency is the worst in the league. Gave Sidney Rice a max deal......then gave his Minnesota teammate a max deal and gave up draft picks only for him to be injured all year. Nevermind how bad they've drafted receivers.

I disagree with your views on Jones. He's so desperate to make it seem like he's a football guy that he runs his mouth and says too much. The best football guys, such as Newsome, Thompson and Belichick say very little. It's like Parcells said - I am in the information gathering business, not the information dispensing business.

And, for someone not running the show, as you say, he's remarkably involved. I watched the war room camera a lot over the course of the draft, and Jones was at the position board quite a bit leading discussions. I didn't see McClay, Stephen Jones or Garrett doing this. Jones was the fulcrum.

As he has been being that he has "final say."

I think we agree on Jones needing his ego stroked. I believe I said he talks too much and always has. So not sure where you see disagreement.

I think we agree Jones is involved in player acquisition. A lot. I just don't see him as running the entire show and the only person drawing the angst of the fans. If you want to criticize then you have to do so with the entire think tank. And of course Jones is going to take all the glory. Always has or has tried to at the very least. And if he's on camera everyone already knows he's going to be the central guy. That doesn't make him leader of the band. He's one cog in the player acquisition machine. I know what goes on in getting ready for the draft. Jones couldn't possibly be the main player. Appeared to me they were all high fiving in there which I found a tad bit disturbing. Act like you've been there before.

Now I'm not saying he's not involved. He is and will be until he starts taking naps at meetings.

No other team's fanbase is as determined to be angry at their team as this one.

The mission to make Anthony Hitchens appear to be a coveted prospect about to be selected as the Cowboys drafted him has begun.

I don't care. He was a massive reach in the 4th round and a horrible selection.

And for all the supporters, show me where you said anything positive about the player pre-draft. Otherwise you're just cheerleading for the team.

Do you think all of us know all the players in the draft? Saying what little we see is encouraging up to a point isn't really saying much. Why do you care if we are trying to find out why the team appears to have really reached for the player? I know you assume the team has a bunch of bumkins but many of us see them as people on the job for a long time. So they aren't stupid nor totally incompetent although I'd have to say for awhile they've appeared average to slightly better.

I go through this nonsense every. single. time. the Cowboys make a boneheaded decision and I refuse to pretend it's a good one. It's the same tired nonsensical argument from the cheerleader fans. They just can't stand how right I am.

I apologize for knowing Tony Romo and Miles Austin pre-draft and calling them sleepers. In the future I'll try to remain clueless and google search draft picks to fit in with the crowd.

You just can't stand how wrong you are sometimes. And, I cannot believe you just typed that! lol

Certain teams have earned the benefit of the doubt. When you look at the team the Seahawks built through the draft, when they "reach" for someone you go "Well, I didn't like that guy that much, but they just won the Superbowl so maybe they know something I don't."

When the Cowboys "reach" for someone, people tend to go, "Well I didn't like that guy that much, and the Cowboys have been pretty mediocre over the last 15 years, so they probably just made another crappy draft pick."

Look on the bright side, it could have been another 2nd round TE pick.

I remember you weren't a fan of the trade up but you pimped Claiborne as a player pretty hard as well. No one remembers that either I guess. I do. That black mark on your posting resume is going to linger for a while.......

What? Risen always says CB's are irrelevant. And if Risen was pimping Claiborne, that is yet to be seen because so far he has not been the shutdown corner he was advertised as.
