Matt Johnson Injured At Camp

This guy has been spotted more than Matt Johnson.
Maybe a 1 tech?

Umm, his body is telling him he can't play football for the rest of his life.

You know, if I were him, I'd invest each and every summer in the specialized sports training facility out there, and hit periods of six weeks that concentrated on retraining muscle responses, diet, and specialized work outs to get him past his natural tendency to self destruct.

I'd pay money and time to get over his obvious threshold and on in the door...

It sounds like he did that this offseason.

Any official word on how bad it is strained, pulled, what degree, etc? And how long he is expected to rest?

Kind of pathetic to just say he is hurt with no follow-ups.......they know by now how bad it actually is.

Stephen Jones said " he's going to miss some time" but that's all I've seen on it

I doubt they're spending any significant time analyzing him other than maybe to cut him once he's cleared to practice to save some cap.

The safety competition is tougher this year. Matt is in trouble for sure.

It is. If Dixon is a ST ace, that gives him a huge leg up. Throw in Hamilton having a good camp and that kid Smith out of Auburn the coaches seem to be high on. Johnson, and Heath for that matter, have their work cut out for them in camp.

Absolutely! Based on what I have read, Church, Wilcox, Hamilton, and Dixon are the top four safeties in camp. That could change, though, as camp progresses.

Sir - Question, our secondary man, who do you like in this bunch and what are your thoughts for an entire group for the upcoming season?

Broaddus is saying that Jeff Heath is Bisaccia's STs ace.

Well, not in that group, but I think Church is probably our second-best defensive player--though that's going to change if Melton or Crawford or Lawrence plays up to par. Of the others, they're pretty much all in a similar boat for me. Wilcox, probably is my favorite because he's both got the range and can hit. But he was all over the place last year. I like what little I've seen of Johnson's range, but you have to discount him so much because he can't be counted on to stay healthy. Heath was a guy who's a good athlete and gets right in position to see the play get made every time. If he's going to improve on that and actually start defending those plays, it ought to show up in the preseason games here in his second year.

I'm interested in watching Dixon, but mostly for his ST play. I'm leery of bit-hit S's in this day and age, but definitely want to see him in the preseason to see how he really covers. Ryan Smith. Ryan Smith, too, I'm pretty interested in seeing. His speed is intriguing, and he's got a rep as a play maker.

Basically, we've got a bunch of unknowns with athletic potential. If Wilcox steps up, I think we've gone from having a really weak S group to having one with decent starters and good young role/ST players behind. But it's such an important position that we've neglected for so long, I kind of don't believe we're going to luck into a decent position group there after all this time.

How 'bout yourself?

Thanks for the reply.

I think that Church is really under appreciated by Cowboy fans. He has paid the price every season to meet job requirements, and came into camp, both at a lighter weight and concentrated on the task.

He adds quite a few tackles to the picture, as well as defensed passes.

He is getting better at passes defensed, and that is large.

A center fielder is my biggest concern in the picture of this season's secondary.

Overall, and including safety, I see this unit as a top ten...but that isn't good enough being in the NFC East. There are some burners here.

I think that Wilcox is able and will continue his growth as the top of the umbrella. I don't discount him.

I like what Heath, Hamilton, Johnson, and Dixon add. I consider Smith as the flip/flop for Wilcox depending on need.
