To go to these lengths for such an average player who disgraced this team the way he did? Irvin did cocaine for crying out loud...5 game suspension. HOF player. We have to go to these lengths for a starting 1 tech in this D? Jeebuz.

We probably don't see Josh's situation the same way, but I'd rather keep my comments in the thread on the topic of the likely ruling since we've discussed the other at some length in other topics.

Also, he'll be coming in to a completely different scheme. So along with getting into football shape, he has to learn marinelli's 2014 tampa 2. He doesnt have an easy road, but he has a rare opportunity for a second chance of a lifetime.

Playing the 1-tech in the Tampa-2 isn't exactly rocket science. Besides, he isn't precluded from studying the playbook.

No I hear you. I'm really talking about the last sentence. Why are we diving through fire hoops to bring in a starting 1 tech? That is sad by itself.

Also, haven't all the "leaks" about it going well come from Mickey? Last night on the pregame Jerry said he didn't know and hadn't heard anything yet.

I thought it was pretty interesting how that Mickey tidbit came about. Stephen had just been on with the pregame guys and had been asked about Brent, and he said the team hadn't heard how the meeting went. Then they went to break, and when they came back from break, right off the bat Mickey jumped in and said he'd just heard that the meeting went well, we should hear soon, etc.

I have no idea what it all means or how to read those tea leaves. But I thought the timing of Spagnola's report was a little weird.

Everything just as it's transpired to-date. Then reinstatement, with less than a two week suspension by the league (probably no suspension), then probably pup him to work with the trainer on conditioning for a few weeks, then 15-20 or so snaps a game until he gets into playing shape if he shows enough to retain him on the active roster.

No need to PUP. He can go on the NFI list I think.

Publicity? It'll be a story for like a day maybe. And it's not we're saving a roster spot--we're at 90 people.

And posting threads about his availability being locked? Just your average 1 tech scouting to assist:D

We're not talking about law but league policy per this commissioner.

Anybody who thinks Brent should get no or little suspension is simply a Cowboys fan trying to excuse one of their players.

No, it's the fact that I have a brain that can analyze a situation. Brent's case is more akin to Vick and he didn't receive a suspension past the sentence.

VManlaughter is a hard crime to gauge depending on state. In most lines of life he would be lucky to gain employment or even a drivers license. Vehicular Manslaughter? It is a rangy crime but in the states adorned:
Tennessee 8 to 60 years
Louisiana 3 to 30 years
Mississippi 5 to 25 years
Texas 2 to 20 years

To be fair he deserves to earn income in his the most optimal fiscal position available to him (according to our Constitution) but he would have to adhere to whatever penalites he may face. NOT THIS TEAM. Why do we have to be the guy?

Yeah I wouldn't expect much impact at all if he can play.

Chalk this up to another one of those meaningless things our fan base worries too much about.

Hey, how is Spencer's rehab going?

It's the same thing.

So there can be no legitimate reasons to think the league will go light? People have to be making excuses because they don't feel the same way you do?

I have no idea what will happen but I've been saying 2 games. It may be less or more.

The only brain that matters is Goodell's brain and the precedent has been set. It's pretty black and white to me.

But to you its blue and silver. There's the disconnect.

That's how hard we've fallen. He's our only hope. smh

Can't say I agree with this. Since when did fans start expecting the NFL to be the moral police?
Some fans have held that perception for decades. It's not something new.

What is a more recent perception is the belief in a standard cause-and-effect for punishing players. Some observers believe that the league should discipline players on a strict type of infraction basis. For example, smoking weed should equal ________ suspension, domestic abuse should equal _______ suspension, vehicular manslaughter should equal _________ suspension, etc. In other words, a codified infraction system similar to legal misdemeanors and felonies.

Such a system does not exist in the NFL. The NFL Personal Conduct policy provides the commissioner with wide latitude in dispensing punishment. No two similar incidents of player stupidity will always equate to similar punishments. Those wishing or even demanding standard punishments are wasting their time and will continue to do so as long as the current policy is in place. In this instance, Josh Brent's ultimate punishment may mirror that of a previous punishment handed down to another player, but there is no guarantee of that actually happening.

Personally, I'm glad that is the case. Let everyone, especially the players, gnash their teeth before and/or after the decision is made. Maybe the anguish will somehow influence players from committing unnecessary and completely preventable nonsense in the future. One can only hope.

Since this one was asserted without an argument, it can be dismissed with just a "nope."
