You mean the play caller who was pass happy the last half decade or so?

Also please look at our run / pass split from last year after our bye.

Please report back.

LMAO I did look it up. We were 3rd to last in run to pass ratio. While Seattle was first. You keep digging yourself a hole here.

You are entitled to your opinions. But your not entitled to your facts.

Doomsy, totally agree with you.We are a different team this year compared to last year. Im not arguing or debating that. The major change is not with the personnel. The major change is our philosophy.

We had the same personnel as last year with the only addition is Martin. Mind you Martin is playing great. But the main factor to all this is Linehan calling the plays - and Callahan coaching the team how to block.

There was no definite 3 year plan that said lets draft linesmen so they can block and we can run the ball. The idea was to draft linesmen so that we can protect Romo and control the line of scrimmage.

The run game happened because all the pieces started to fall in place when Linehan came in here and all he did was rearrange the seating on the bus. He was the catalyst that brought about all this and not some 3 year plan.

I think Martin, the continue development of Fredrick who is a 2nd year player the growth of Leary and better play from Free whom people want to get rid of has played a big part. Few penalties we are not seeing plays coming back. I agree Linehan who is running the same offense and yes is putting his own stamp on it has made a difference. Why is Linehan here? Garrett and that is per Stephen Jones. They did not want Jason to continue to wear 2 hats OC\HC Callahan as a play caller was not getting it done last year. Stephen talked of the latitude given the Garrett to make changes by getting Linehan and by demoting Callahan and Kiffin while promoting Marinneli. all these things have made a difference. People have no issue about throwing blame on garrett and that is but damn man up and give credit where it is due as well. The plan has not changed and there are a lot of factors in place offense and defense.

Dallas has gone from one of the oldest teams in the NFL to one of the youngest this too has been part of the rebuilding of the Cowboys

And you know all of this how?

Whats your point? I thought you were tired of trying to prove that Garrett was the lastest and greatest coach that ever lived?

All I did was give credit to where I believe its due. We can agree to disagree. Or you can get all puffed up and argue till sundown over basically a difference of opinion. Because at the end of the day, we all have different opinions but we all are here because we love our team - the Dallas Cowboys.

Yes I give credit to where its REALLY due. Linehan is here because of Garrett. Thats a fact.

I honestly like his role now compared to yesteryear. If all he does is slap peoples butts after a good play and give motivational speeches its absolutely fine with me. I did mention that this team has similarities to the team of the 90s. The only difference that I see here is that Garrett the team loves to play for him and has brought about a team concept philosophy that is evident with ALL the players. Jimmy brought fear. Fear drove most of what the players did on the field during the 90s except for his main players.

Garrett's team is giving everyone a chance to play based on results and I think thats a good thing.

Coaching is not just Sunday, they work their butts off with long days and long nights through out the week. Sunday is the end product of what Jason and his staff have done through out the week. Garrett has had a lot to do with putting his staff in place. In the end Jimmy Johnson was right that he felt Jason would have better chance at success by not wearing 2 hats OC\HC but to be able to focus on the bigger picture and coaching an entire team.

Of course we pass less on 3rd down now. We have a different playcaller that wasn't fixated on passing compared to last year. There wasn't a major change in our offense besides having Linehan call the plays.

People here are so in love with Garrett that a little negativity about him gets them up and arms over nothing.

Face it. He wasn't the best playcaller all these years. In fact, he was terrible. Thank God for Linehan coming here and figuring out we are a running team. Thus you see the results that you see now.

I think you missed the point. We are still a pass first team on on 3rd down and short. The difference is Romo completion percentage is ridiculously high this year at 75% and Murray averages 3.91 Y/A instead of last years 1.64.

Know this wasn't towards me but I'm answering anyway.

I am assuming you are asking in regards to the idea put forth by people like Sturm that Garrett took back playcalling after the bye week in 2013. In 3rd and short after the bye last year: 53.8%/46.2% pass to run (70/30 before).

Agreed......Can't argue with what I agree with can I?

I don't hate Garrett. But I hated his playcalling. His role right now fits and makes everyone better.

.

Last year we are a much more predictable team. If it was 3rd and short and we had Romo and shotgun teams knew exactly that we were going to pass.

This year on 3rd and short we can either give it to Murray averaging 3 yards a carry or Romo can throw it. Its this unpredictability thats giving teams a fit.

There hasn't been a change in personnel with our 3rd and short package except for Martin. In fact, its the same exact package from last year.

The major change has been a less predictable playcaller who is willing to pound and run the ball even on 3rd and short. That unpredictability coupled with better blocking this year has revolutionized our team.

Personnel hasn't changed at all. The difference is a new playcaller.

I agree but I would also say Martin being in the lineup is a big help in that, he is not getting pushed back instead he is opening holes and that can't be discounted. I see fewer instance where the RB are having to avoid penetration in the back field.

I'm glad you love our team. I'm not puffed up. Hmmm, did I say he was the greatest coach that ever lived? I missed that one. I'm simply pointing out the basis for your view. Opinion, and an opinion based on sheer speculation. But I agree with you that we all have them, and I am glad that those who love the team are here. So, as you say, we can agree to disagree.

You keep saying this about play calling. Are you reading the posts above yours? They are breaking it down for you by percentages. The theory doesn't fly.

Since there was no plan according to some because Garrett never announced it at his opening press conference...let me ask this...

Name a coach that has ever said, "Here is my plan," and then went in depth about what that plan was and how they were going to pull it off.

So of course someone is putting the pieces together after the fact to present it in this article. What is being lost here is that those pieces are there and they do fit into a picture that this was the plan all along.

There has not been one shred of evidence to the contrary presented in this thread that disproves that conclusion. All it is is a biased opinion against Jason Garrett, thrown together with misrepresentations and it does not matter how many copy and pasted quotes gets plastered out of context to "prove" a convoluted delusion.

Also, while I'm ecstatic about the team at 5-1 and the O-line is great I find it strange that we are so quick to dole out immediate credit to a guy who BLEW multiple games every year with his play calling and time management...specifically not running the ball despite a back that was averaging 5 yards when healthy.

Of course Garrett has his hands in it but I'm bit going to act like the last 4-5 years didn't exist to prove a point. I heard the same with Kubiak.

I've told my Garrett story many times and how it transitioned out. I used to sit here and talk about how I loved that he made guys wear suits to the game ,etc because we needed the discipline. That changed. It changed because I saw the reality of it. The questions I asked above speak volumes about what happened and they are facts. There is a difference between respect and job performance. I respect Garrett just like I have many coaches like Campo and others along the way, I respect them as men. It doesn't mean I have to eat up everything about them and think they are great coaches. Garrett's process wasn't an exact plan, plain and simple. I've given him partial credit. In multiple responses in this thread you've not expressed ONE football assertion regarding how JG's plan came to fruition or answered any of the questions presented. The chain letter has been "Attack messenger, say I'm right and you're wrong, say I've already talked about these things." It's not attacking you personally but as a poster I'd sure like more than "At 5-1, after 4 years of heartache, I'm right."

A lot of good stuff here Frog and you echo my feelings on the subject almost to the letter. I was a Garrett fan and thought he'd be good for the franchise. I had high hopes. But folks are so invested in Garrett that they are willing to overlook the junior league game day flaws that even his Owner/GM pointed out. And now they feel vindicated at 5 and 1 and toss out 3 years of 8 and 8, blown games and missed playoff appearances.

At the end of the day, it's really too bad that the fan base has become so polarized. No amount of "facts" will sway people from their opinions. The team is different this year on both sides of the ball but especially the offense and the offensive philosophy. For 3 years under JG as HC, regardless of personnel, we didn't run the ball even when we had some success in doing so. Another poster made reference to a thread some time ago where people excused JG's pass happy offense as the way of the new NFL where effectively running the ball didn't equate to success. This was the excuse back then and the line moves to whatever suits someone's support of JG.

How about we just continue to win. There should be no reason we miss the playoffs after our start and hopefully we can make some noise in the playoffs. Credit is earned by wins/success and Garrett will get his due if the team continues to be successful.

No he won't.

The same posters in this thread will say we got there in spite of him.

The majority of those that hated on him for 3 + years have quietly slipped into the background and wisely so. Those that are still carrying the hate banner will just keep looking more and more silly with each passing win.

It proves you have trouble stringing together an argument?

It is hard to have a tight argument when all you do is cut and paste quotes from different sources, all taken out of context, and scream, "See!" when it only makes sense to you and it gets destroyed by concrete evidence to the contrary.

Do you think people just wake up one day and say they don't like the HC? People aren't predisposed to dislike something about their team. Garrett has earned some heat, at the very least, for some of his questionable coaching decisions. One can argue they cost us games which cost us a shot at the playoffs. By the same token, if we win, folks will give him his due. It may not be as much as some would like, but it's a "process" with us fans too.

I will say that in one of the interviews (Scandrick?) a player mentioned how hard they practice during the week and said all the right things. Maybe it's partly because winning is a cure all, but maybe he brings a work ethic, expectations and accountability. I can accept that but my "credit" will be given based on results, not some mystical process that fans cling to to give them hope.
