My take on bringing Brent back to the Cowboys - for what it's worth. When they first talked about it at training camp and jerry said he would have a spot, I was - no ****** way ! Do not bring his *** back, his neglect killed his best friend. Now, months later, and plenty of thought about it - my opinion is completely the opposite. 2nd chances, yada yada yada, we all agree everyone should get them. I am all for his keeping Jerry Browns memory and his daughter front and center, he BETTER play a huge roll in that child's life.
Strictly as a football reason, while Brent was not all world, he was playing the nose in a 3-4, putting him at the 1-tech. in a 4-3 would seem to suit him better. I liked the analogy of a Mebane from Seattle. Big ol' plug in the middle. His weight I think will get there, his cardio may be a bit of a struggle to start with, but I can see why they are trying this. Fresh body to rotate with Hayden, and as has been mentioned he's extremely strong. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. But I like that this team is willing to try.
Good luck Josh Brent, you have an opportunity in front of you - do something with it. You don't have to be all world, just be a piece to the puzzle.

He's earned his roster spot by competing the past 3 weeks in practice. He has undeniable talent (he was coming along very strongly) at a position where we need an upgrade as opposed to Okoye who's health status is still iffy and has 2 players clearly better than him ahead of him in Crawford and Melton.

Btw, if you can't see the talent, Okoye certainly can. Mickey told a story on talking cowboys about 6 weeks back of interviewing Okoye at his locker room and he was talking about all the reinforcements we had coming back. Then to paraphrase he said 'for example this guy who's next to me'. Mickey thought he might be referring to Lawrence and then looked at the locker and realized it was Brent's. And he said to him, you think this guy can play? Okoye then said 'whoa, have you seen this guy move?'

That's the thing about Brent, people are failing to project is talent to this 4-3. He was an emerging NT in a 3-4 but as well as being the strongest guy on the team, he had quickness that's somewhere in btw Melton and Hayden. We can use that guy in the middle of our defense for a stretch run.

Already Brent has come out of the chute "overweight" in the words of the fire-breathing Jason Garrett.
And more recent Brent's quote that his playing in the NFL again would means that his dead buddy's dying would not be in vain.
Then there were (someone hep me on this I just heard some bear facts about it) words between Brent and another player?
Cowlishaw and the dallas mourning news half said Brent's presense with the team is not good. They half smart mans at the DMN and I am sure they are correct.
And let us not forget the relapses Brent had re intoxicants while his court case was still going through the procedurals and stuff.
Brent at best half average talents and the Cowboys could do a lot better than reward someone who had a hand in killing another Cowboys player.
Holla.

I don't even know where to start... Content, grammar, analysis, jeez...

Relax man, Jerry hasn't guaranteed anything. If the past 11 weeks haven't taught you anything about how this team is now structured, I don't know what will.

If yo no a lot about grammar give me a PM. I need a menter who can teach me grammar. I will pay you if you teach me something new ever day.

This Josh Brent deal doesn’t pass the smell test. I’m concerned it could cause a locker room diversion. First let me say, I’m all for giving someone a second or even a third chance. True Josh paid his debt to society and I wish him well. With that said: why would Jerry come out earlier this year, and state that when Josh’s eligible he has a spot on the 56 man roster. That’s just doesn’t add up to me. Josh was coming along but he wasn’t that great that he’s “guaranteed” a roster spot. Does Jerry feel responsible and therefore obligated to Josh? More important, is Marinneli ok with this? If he’s not and this is more of Jerry’s BS, I guarantee you he wont be back next year. I.(eg Parcells TO). If Josh came in and actually earned a roster soft by competing in training camp, I would be all in. I hope I’m completely off base and Josh comes in a helps the team, but from where I sit something stinks in D.

I think it all goes back to Jerra wanting to be known as a compasionate owner who beliefs in redemption, yada yada wada.
You are correct in that not ever one can come in, overweight, after almost 2 years of inactivity (escept for taking intoxicants during his court process) and take a roster spot. Sounds good to me! No sweating at training camp (all be it the NFL sanction) and then cruising in to Big D to become a NFL Cowboy.
Of course, his teammates will back him up and support him. So did Michael's Irvin's teammates show up in court when the retired player was in his drugs/escorts-in-a-motel days.
Holla.

It obivous to me for reasons other than football Jerry made this decision in the spring. Another coaching de
Jerry Jones is a general manager. Josh Brent is a defensive linemen. The defensive line requires a defensive lineman with Brent's skills. Jones re-acquiring Brent fulfills some or all of the requirement demanded by the defensive line need. Could you clarify what is meant by "reasons other than football?" Are you inferring Jones reserved a roster spot for Brent out of a sense of charity? That would be atypical of Jones. Certainly, Jones has obtained questionable talent through the years but he has done so believing the players could be productive towards winning. So, I can see an opinion questioning whether Brent qualifies as a defensive asset for the team. However, I think the assumption that Jones re-acquired Brent for reasons other than helping the team win is farfetched.

there have been more than a few stories over the years where jerruh lets his heart over rule his head (even when sober)

Brown's mother apparently really got to him; and just about made him promise to give Brent a chance. So to be brutally honest when you hear the guy is still over weight and is not likely to play at all for several more weeks, the evidence that this is NOT a football decision is pretty damning.

After what this team has done this year? From Crawford? To Melton? To McClain? All of their player acquisitions this year for the most part have all panned out. So I'm at the point now where I have to trust they know what they have in Brent.

But i've seen in time and time again. People expect the worse and get proven wrong lol. That's been the story of this year. From Romo's back to Henry Melton to Rolando McClain. Maybe....just MAYBE these guys might know what they are doing.

I will not argue Jones' decision to re-acquire Brent excluded an emotional component. It very well could have. Jones is human after all. Narcissistic, but still empathetic. However, Jones feeling empathy for Brent and Jerry Brown's family does not define his decision as exclusively emotional. The motivation would certainly be separate from a football-only decision if Jones added him to the roster believing Brent would never become physically and mentally able to compete in the league again.

A "reason other than football" means Brown's mother played Jones' heart strings into re-acquiring Brent solely and had nothing to do with Jones believing Brent could help the defense? At best, I would call that a complex decision but not a mutually exclusive one. Just my opinion.

Do not hate free speech and free thought. If you disagree, state yo disagreements instead of ridicool.
Free speech and free thought includes the right to ridicule. You may wish to defend the practice of civility than constitutional privilege. Just an FYI.

Little hard on my grammar and a little
Too sensitive on having an a opinion
Most only read what they wanted to read
If Jerry would have said; I welcome him back to compete for a job. But to promise him a spot on the "53" man roster is ridiculous. AGAIN once he's on the field and playing I will be his biggest fan until he gives me a reason not to. I still think he's about the same talent level as Hayden or McLain and now because Jerry feels obligated to the Brown Family he's making promises that's not fair to the team. I'm just not convinced . I just don't trust Jerry. Hopefully I'm wrong and Josh kicks butt.

You get it but unfortunately many hear do not. Most normal earthlings work for a position. Most work hard toward a goal and then are rewarded for prior work and for getting there.
To guarantee a spot in a team or a company is so Un-American. Give Brent a "participation" ribbon for now but otherwise make him work (maybe next year in training camp) for a position that he half EARNED.

High falutin words that say: Rudeness be accepted.

lol. Who said anything about acceptability?

People react differently when questioning expressed opinion. Whether right or wrong, I have been certainly been guilty of being a pain in the anus when it comes to questioning the logic behind comments. That means I have been uncivil at times (and will be in the future as well) but it does not excise my constitutional right of free speech. Free thinking does not exist inside teflon bubbles. Everyone (me included) must adhere to the forum's rules or face the wrath of KHANNNNN! the moderators. Of course, obeying the rules does not prevent colorful criticism. :p

Actually, I recall a post/thread in which one forlorn and naive personage cried out for freedom of speech here and was told (and rightfully so) that since this is a private forum, there is no freedom of speech here and use of speech was to be decided by the owner and mods. And I fully am onboard with dat being that someone is funding this and in his house, he half a right to do whatever he want.
And you are right, you half been a pain in the planet of uranus and here.;)
You see how servil I can be?
