Is it just me that believes McFadden is starting RB?

Murray leafing and McFadden coming half me thinking (and I usually dont like to think): I wonder what Garrett half up his sleeve as to the passing game, now that the running game half clearly taken a back seat in this team. I espect romo to light it up this year, he and Dez and the Bease and Williams too.

I think you are joking, yes?

"contribution" sound vague and portends another injury-filled year, his contribution being waving a towel on the sidelines to look involved.

OK--I am game- let's say he plays in 12-14 games and racks up 900-1000 yards.

OK, I half a confestation to make: I wrote this thinking the thread was about the overrated Lee. but lee or McFadden, I still do not espect much from either.

But the 900-1000 figure make me smile. ha-ha.

If this team is serious about competing for a Super Bowl he better not be. Dude is a depth signing at best.

This team needs a serious threat at the RB position to have a chance at the postseason. There currently isn't one on the roster at this time. It looks as if Jerry and company are going to look to the draft to fill that void...let's hope it goes as planned.

Very true. Now they need a Murray-like runner. Not an injured underachiefer. This acquisition seem dumber than the trade for Manhattan for Alaska.

I am ok with this. It's low risk and possibly high reward. I think we will miss Murray early in the year and more if Cowboys become pass happy.

McFadden is going to have a lot of you eating crow breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Most on this board were gathered together at the end of last season like it was the last supper eating crow and I'll be glad to choke down another helping if McFadden "leads" the Cowboys to a SB win or puts up 1200 plus rushing yards like some are predicting. I like the signing and think he'll contribute to anywhere from 550-750 yards rushing with 3-5 TD's if he can stay healthy. For McFadden to produce the type of numbers some are predicting he would have to stay healthy the entire season and receive at least 260 carries and I don't see the Cowboys having a plan in place to lean on him that much. I saw a segment by Mike Mayock just prior to the 08 draft pointing out one of the negatives with McFadden and it was his inability to make defenders miss in the open field. Time and time again they showed McFadden one on one with a defender and he could never get around them it's something he's struggled with as a pro.

He's more of a north/south runner who has good straight line speed but struggles to put a move on a defender. Saw a segment on Murray after the season and time after time he made defenders miss with cutback moves which is something you don't see with McFadden. A defender comes up on Murray and he cuts enabling him to get around them. McFadden doesn't have the power Murray has to stiff arm and run over defenders he doesn't have the qualities it takes to be an effective every down back. For him to help the Cowboys he needs to be part of a rotation/committee. It amazes me why anyone would be excited about him carrying the load it's like some want the Cowboys to be the Raiders.

I'm sorry but I'm not one of those who thinks you can stick any back behind this OL and get Demarco Murray production. The ones who'll be eating crow here are the ones predicting 1200-1500 rushing yards for McFadden. Not only did the Raiders let him go but they just signed Trent Richardson who's the only back in the league to average less per carry the past 3 years than McFadden. I know if McFadden does anything positive and contributes to what hopefully will be a great 2015 season someone with an agenda will claim I said he sucked and wouldn't do crap so I'l be sure to bookmark this thread. :)

I commend you on a good post.

Here's my thinking in brief:
1. McFadden is going to be reborn as far as his temperament and effort. A shot to play for a winning team behind this line? He's going to be like a phoenix.
2. Murray OTOH was playing for a big payday this past season. And now he's got his money. He'll have no motivation to play for extra money, no motivation to play for rushing records (he'll be just one guy on the committee). That, plus all that tread on his tires from '14. He's going to head south next winter.
3. McFadden is going to hit some of that daylight that Murray enjoyed...and it's going to taste good. Perhaps he won't be as elusive as Murray but he'll be faster...and if the line can put him in a situation to run to daylight...Katy bar the door. You'll see some long plays going to the house in 2015.
4. McFadden's confidence will return. This guy was back-to-back top runner in college. He needs a line, some sunshine and his mojo back.

I commend your post more than the post you commended.

Applauso!

I think it's likely that McFadden will end up being utilized to accomodate his strengths. He'll do best, imho, being used as a blocker and receiver out of the backfield -- which suggests more of a 3rd down responsibility than his being a starting RB. I believe his injuries have taken a toll. I'll be flabbergasted if we fail to draft a reputable RB to serve that purpose. There will be some really good ones available this year -- we'd be foolish not to take full advantage of that opportunity.

I think you have nailed it.
